About Cafe Lucia
Just steps away from Healdsburg’s landmark plaza, Café Lucia invites you to a leisurely meal in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere made warm and cozy by hanging canvas prints of landscapes and scenery from the Azores and Portugal, and the wooden tables fashioned from old wine boxes. Enjoy a casual lunch in the courtyard or and evening meal served al fresco with Fado, the tradional music of Portugal, playing in the background. Best of all, of course, is the genuinely caring service and food, which will leave you completely sated yet somehow craving more.

Cafe Lucia Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I went to Cafe Lucia to enjoy a Sunday lunch. To our delight, the restaurant has added brunch items to their weekend menu. First we ordered the donut holes dusted with cinnamon. Yummy! He ordered the eggs Benedict and said they were perfectly cooked. Not always the case with getting the eggs cooked properly. I had the fish & chips with kale salad. The fish was lightly seasoned and delicious. The Portuguese wines that were ordered were great and well priced. Our servers were excellent. We really love this restaurant as the food is always stellar. Try the brunch and you will be very pleased.
Our family went to celebrate a birthday and were not disappointed! The food was delicious, we shared the scallop appetizer and the sardines, both were great. The branzino was cooked perfectly. Definitely have the malasaldinahs for dessert - they are puffs of heaven!
How often do you get a chance to eat authentic Portuguese food?
This is a hidden gem, tucked away behind the La Crema tasting room. Well worth the effort to search it out.
We had fisherman’s stew and a traditional salt cod and potato casserole. Both were superb, and we will definitely be back!
An in-town rendezvous with my wife and sister-in-law for lunch, although the brunch menu was also being offered concurrently during our 1:30pm visit.
The meal began with a complementary amuse-bouch (a cranberry and creme shot) to start off the meal.
We opted for a trio of seafood-based tapas -- baby octopus, smoked sturgeon, and white anchovies. A nice presentatioin, with enough for four to share (let alone the three of us); all very tasty.
For the main course, I opted for the Arroz á Valenciana, a paella-like Portuguese classic with linguiça, chicken, clams and mussels, saffron rice. Slightly salty for my palate, but still quite delicious. The other two dishes that were ordered were the Fish and Chips (lightly cassava floured fillets of local cod, pan fried, kale slaw, with portuguese pepper fries), and Ham and Grillledd Apple Benedict (Canadian bacon, grilled apples, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, house made corn roll, and breakfast mini-potatoes lightly seasoned with piri piri pepper). All were a hit, and reminded us to keep Cafe Lucia on our radar, as it is a bit out of the way (about a block south of the square, on the west side of Headlsburg Avenue).
Warm welcome, very accommodating to special requests, great wine list with many Portuguese wines to try, as well as those from Sonoma County, food was wonderful - service terrific
The Portuguese Fisherman’s stew was really great -full of seafood-prawns, scallops, sea bass, clams, in a well seasoned light tomato broth
Help with the Portuguese wines selection was spot on and much appreciated
The service was perfection!!
The day boat scallops were prepared in a very special way. Try them and you’ll see what I mean.
The Portuguese fish stew was excellent.
For dessert I had the unique doughnuts.
What a wonderful birthday dinner I had and of course accompanied with local wine that enhanced the food.
Thank you again Cafe Lucia!!
We live in Healdsburg and were celebrating my son purchasing a house. It was convenient for all of us and food didn't disappoint. We'd eaten there once before for dinner, this time it was Sunday brunch. Love the spicy potatoes! Homemade sausage great. Donuts, delicious. Mimosa cocktail a great start. I had eggs benedict with roasted apples. Everything wonderful.
Con: there was intermittent construction going on while we ate. But to be fair, we were clearly warned before we chose our table, so it was not the restaurant's fault.
Pro: excellent, attentive service from ALL wait-staff.
The food was fun, interesting, and delicious. Not only was it tasty, it was avant garde in a delightful way. Every bite caused us both to exclaim as to what was happening in our mouths.
We opted for a selection of starters, so each dish was a new treat
What a cool spot! At first I wasn't sure what I thought of the location since it is in a courtyard in between some buildings. Once inside it's quite pleasant and we enjoyed being outside for lunch.
We ordered 5 items from the Tasca Tasting Plates, sardines, smoked trout, pickled veggies, and 2 cheese. This was delightful and fun! Next we had the heirloom tomato salad, albacore ceviche, and the farro salad. Everything was super fresh and healthy. I don't eat pork so a lot of the menu items are off limits for me but the dishes our neighbors were enjoying looked amazing.
They have a small but lovely wine list. The bottles are sold at about what you would pay at the winery or store. They also have free corckage so that's pretty awesome!
Great unobtrusive service and we were able to linger over our food and wine for a long time.
Can't wait to return!
Reservations at 7:30. The first table they seated us ( four adults) was tight in a corner and next to the restrooms. We asked to be moved. Server was good, but it was very very slow between courses. When we were reseated to an outdoor table - chilly but with heaters - it was 7:45. First course was not served until 8:20. 35 minutes from seated to first course is too long. The restaurant was not full so we could not understand the slowness of the kitchen. We nearly left after the first course. From seated to first course - over an hour. Waited another 40 minutes for main course served at 9:00. Single item main course, small portions in a bowl, cauldron or small plate. Desert not served until 9:30. We understand about having a leisurely dinner but from start to finish over 2 hours - seated outside, chilly, not busy restaurant... We will not be returning. Slow kitchen, not busy restaurant, does not make up for no corkage fee.
Fabulous menu! Here's a chance to break away from the standard wine country fare and taste some flavorful Portuguese cuisine. The traditional fish stew (think Portuguese "cioppino") was delicious! Loved the shrimp risotto too. Outdoor patio tables in the urban courtyard was a great spot. And whaaat??? No CORKAGE FEE? Life doesn't get any better! Will definitely return.
Love the cuisine at Lucia's. Everything was flavorful, unique and executed perfectly. You just can't beat the no corkage fee for Sonoma wines. Only glitch of the meal was a fairly long delay between appetizers and entrée. Sort of through the "pace" of the evening off but was not a major problem. Service was good, possibly could have been a little more attentive but really not bad. I will definitely go back and recommend to others.
We live in Healdsburg & chose Cafe Lucia for a quiet lunch with visiting friends. Our two friends both had the Portuguese Mac & Cheese and loved it...I plan to try that next time. My husband had Arroz a Valenciana which he enjoyed~it's a rice, chicken & seafood dish. My Spicy Piri-Piri Chicken Salad was delicious~flavorful but not too spicy for me.
What a nice lunch with friends. Thank you
We had a most disappointing dinner. The tomato heirloom salad was incredibly overdressed. I finally dragged the tomatoes away from the globs of dressing and scrapped them off to eat them. The soup was only fair. My sea bass was a uniform square and nearly tasteless, suggesting it was frozen. Fish. My partner ordered a Portuguese dish that was supposed to contain beef , pork and sausage but it was mostly a plate of beans.
The service was terribly slow. The waiter would come by to check on us but leave the dirty plates. I finally asked him to at the end when we were finishing up our wine. I hear there are some fine restaurants in this town. Don't go here.
First time. Got reviews on Yelp. Very positive. Much better than expected. Great food and service. Indoor/outdoor seating was perfect. Was 103 degrees outside but perfect temp in outdoor area. Fisherman's stew was best I have ever had. Prices were unbelievably reasonable for the quality, especially for high priced Healdsburg. Big bonus was no corkage fee for local wines. Go there, you will not be disappointed.
We were looking forward to eating at Cafe Lucia because we had eaten at the sister restaurant in Sonoma and loved that experience. The food was great but our service lacked. The girl who seated us was very sweet but our server was inattentive and not welcoming to the point of being "pompous". We noticed he was very friendly with another table but it seemed like he ignored us. Everyone at our table has worked in the restaurant industry and knows how important the server is to the whole dining experience. Unfortunately, we will probably not be back because of the poor treatment.
