Cafe La Buca
Best local Italian food in Florida
First let me say that I have been to Cafe La Buca several times before and always enjoyed it immensely. This time, however, my experience was extremely disappointing.
When I arrived ON TIME for my reservation, the restaurant was quite crowded with a large number of people waiting outside the door. I checked in and informed the person I believe to be the owner that my party would be 2, not 3 as I had booked, due to illness of the third. I was told that was better as I wouldn’t have to wait as long for 2 vs. 3. I noted there was a set table for 2 nearby but was told to wait so I did.
After 25 minutes, the set table for 2 was added to a fourtop that was recently vacated, and a party of 6 was seated. Then servers began pushing together and setting up a table for 18. I was ignored the entire time. I then observed severs carrying in a small table and attempting to find room to put it in between other already-crowded tables. There would be no room for 2 to sit across from each other and we’d have to sit at right angles to each other in the pathway into the kitchen area. It was then that I decided to leave. I informed the owner that I was leaving and barely received a glance.
I understand the restaurant is small and it is busy season in south Florida. However I am wondering why Cafe la Buca would have accepted my reservation in the first place if they weren’t able to accommodate me...and then not give a damn! I’m not sure at this time if I will return...and I will certainly not recommend the restaurant to others.
No menu, had to order by verbal description without knowing prices.
The veal was poor quality and the price was very high.
I will not recommend this place to anyone.
Unremarkable-looking little restaurant, tucked away in a small suburban strip mall, belies its looks with excellent food cooked to order.
They only serve dinner on weekends, with the menu limited to 2-3 main courses (based on what’s fresh at the market). Several appetizers can be served individually or as a family-style assortment for a group. Deserts are typical Italian fare e.g. tiramisu, cannoli or tartuffo, but good.
It’s a small place and when it’s full of diners enjoying their experience it can get noisy. Dinner for two was about $100, plus tip, not too extravagant for a special occasion.
Always a great experience. Perfect spot for out of town guests. Delicious food and service has always been good. Looking forward to our next visit!
We had eaten at Cafe La Buca as a couple and loved it. However, there were six of us at the table on our recent visit and it was fabulous. We went family style for the appetizers, pasta, and meat/fish course and it was a wonderful meal. This place is a hidden treasure
Party of 6 celebrating my wife’s birthday and our anniversary. It was a Monday night and we were 1 of 3 parties in the restaurant around the 6 o’clock hour. The service was amazing, very helpful and patient. We ate appetizers and entrees family style. The chef was at his best that night. All of the food was delicious, and I believe myself to have high food standards. Would revisit again.
We really enjoyed the restaurant, however they should consider using a printed menu so you are aware of the cost of each item. We will definitely go back again.
Food good, not great. Way overpriced. $120 for 2 apps, 3 shrimp done scampi style and a smaller veal chop. No coffee or dessert. One and done for me.
This is a special local great secret
What a hidden treasure! Ambiance, food, and service combined for a delicious dining experience.
We eat here regularly. It's a 40 minute drive, but more than worth it! Food is delicious, service is always super friendly and efficient and they welcome you bringing in your own wine.
Like eating in the hill towns of Firenze
Great food — great staff!!
The best food ever!!!
Always great! Food is fresh, service is friendly and attentive. We eat here often.
Menu was whatever was made that day. All fresh and cooked to perfection.
The food was outstanding. Absolutely delicious! We over ordered, so had enough for dinner the next day! Which is a good thing, because the meal was quite expensive. Given the fact there is no menu, the servers tell you what is being made fresh that day, you don't know how much you are spending. Bring your own bottled water and your own wine. They do not serve tap water, so you must buy a bottle. The place is small, casual and quaint. The food, again, was delicious!
Definitely an Italian experience!. Great appetizers and pasta to share family style. Would like to try entrees but too full. Took two cannolis home for later - were very small. As other diners have said, it is pricey ... but delicious!
Excellent food and service.
Amazing dinner with friends would highly recommend.
Highly recommend this restaurant. This is one of the best Italian restaurants we have ever been to. Intimate, but yet friendly. There are no menus. The food preparation is excellent! The servers are incredibly knowledgeable and provide excellent service. There is ample amount of time between courses. It is a family style Italian restaurant. IF you are in the Pompano Beach and Ft. Lauderdale areas, do not miss this place! WE loved it and will be back!
Delicious food is served in a little gem. Simple and tasty food with nice vine pairings.
FOOD AND STAFF ARE OUTSTANDING WE APPRECIATE THEIR HOSPITALITY
Excellent gem of a restaurant. Apps were staffed meatball, peppers with kalamata olives, calamari (super tender and delish wth arugula salad), linguini with cheery stone clams (amazing flavor, perfectly cooked pasta, although a couple clams with sand ...)
Entree was a pounded bone in veal chop served parmigiana style ... simply outstanding. We brought a great bottle of wine and really enjoyed our night. Looking forward to another visit.
Super cool spot..unassuming with amazing food..menu changes so it is recited. Pastas spectacular..a hidden gem. Check it out
Amazing food, great to go as a group so you can try a little of everything. Homemade and delicious, surprisingly affordable for the quality of food received and service was amazing.
Great, fresh homemade food. Delicious every time!
Great local find! Looks like a simple pizzeria, but it is much better than that. We had what is probably the best broccoli rabe I have ever had. We will be coming back often.
The best pizza on the planet! Fabulous Italian specialties and amazing steaks, wine and desserts!!
Best Italian in Fort Lauderdale!
Ben and his staff are #1. This is by far the best Italian restaurant in the south Florida region. You are missing out if you don't regular visit Cafe La Buca!
We went to this restaurant last night for my birthday. We had been there before so we were looking forward to a nice evening. There were four of us. From the time we walked into the restaurant until we left we had to yell to each other to be heard over the birthday party that consisted of 20 people or so. We believe it might have been the owners wife. They should have closed the restaurant for the evening instead of allowing outsiders in. The meatball appetizer was cold and the entrees were so-so. The chef was obviously to busy with the large party to worry about other guests. We yelled for one of the waiters 4 times before we could get their attention for something that we wanted. Definitely not the birthday dinner I expected or deserved from this restaurant.
Excellent Food and service. As good as any upscale restaurant.
Food and wine were excellent.
A true find. Food is fresh, delicious, plentiful. Very friendly service - can be hectic and terribly noisy at times. Can’t wait to go back!!
The best pizza on the planet and steak too! Fabulous wine selections, pasta, Italian specialties! La Bucca has it all along with great service and dessert! Exceptional!!
Fantastic fare and great service.
Love everything about this restaurant
