Cafe Josie Ratings and Reviews
Really cool spot. A bit confused when we got there at 630 for a predrinn at how empty it was, but once we met the bartender & had his creative drinks, we were sold. By 8pm the place was full, and did not disappoint. We loved all of our dishes and the all you can eat made us feel a bit like ballers ordering everything on the menu. Will be a new staple a lot for sure with friends in town!
It was Saturday, so we had the fixed-price 'Experience' . Food was great - very creative recipes. Tried a new wine on the recommendation of our waiter, and it was excellent. Service was prompt and mostly unobtrusive. Second time at Josie - won't be the last.
When we made our reservations we didn't know that there was a fixed menu for a fixed price on Friday and Saturday nights. The menu was your choice of tapas, as many as you wanted for one fixed price. The food was excellent. It was a fun interactive way to eat dinner. We had 4 at our table, so we tried a variety of different plates. We will be going again.
'The Experience' is definitely just that, and so worth it! We went for happy hour and enjoyed tasting almost the full menu. The food is prepared brilliantly and each dish has just the right sauce, seasoning, or accompaniment to make them perfect. The Brussels sprouts are a favorite of the family, but many other dishes are also superb! The brisket and the meatloaf were divine; the scallops and salmon delicious; the kale salad and goat cheese special were outstanding. And you must top all of that off with the crème brulee -- some of the best in town!
Beyond the food, the service is impeccable. We had Vincent, and he did everything to make sure our Experience was the best. Both professional and personable!
This is without a doubt our favorite place in Austin to dine!
We have been coming to Cafe Josie since they first opened. In the past month we have had two, 7 persons get-together. Both groups different personalities but the result was the same: The 45$ pre-fixe menu was a hit for everyone. There was a mix of foodies and "I'll eat anything put in front of me" types. Last Saturday, a good friend was with us who has developed award winning restaurants in NYC and Marfa. He was impressed. We won't stop coming back, so be warned Jonathan!
This was the find of the year for us. What a fantastic way to spend an evening dining out. The Experience allowed my wife and I to share several bites while also sampling things the other wouldn’t like. Our server was excellent as was the food and wine. Definitely put this on your must try list.
So while this visit was off to a rocky start - there was a delay in getting our table although the time was past our reserved schedule - the experience was worth the extra wait. The service once we were seated was impeccable and the food, both the variety and quality, was outstanding. We chose the $45 experience with a taste of so many options and the endless servings that proved to not only be delicious but interesting as well. Our favorite was the bisque, not sure if it was for that night only or a daily staple, not to downplay any of the other delightful dishes, until we had the crème brulee for desert which was the absolute best I have ever tasted anywhere, including in France. I heartily recommend the wonderful restaurant for both the quality of the service, the ambience of what was once a carriage house, and the delicious meal that we had. Kudos.
When we first arrived and realized it was a tasting menu rather than a traditional menu, we were a little unsure. Our waiter explained how everything worked and then the different dishes began arriving. Each plate was very tasty and it was a fun experience to have a variety of tastes. We are looking forward to going back soon.
Great experience for our family of six. We loved the fried oysters as well as the Gouda shells with bacon onion jam. Only suggest a better Cabernet Sauvignon selection. Wine options were however acceptable. We had a wonderful Spanish Tempranillo. Would highly recommend this restaurant to all.
Finally tried The Experience menu, tastings of lots of things. While it is pricey for me because I just can’t eat that much in one sitting, the food is wonderful, creative, beautifully prepared and presented. Overall, a wonderful experience. I wish I could have had dessert but didn’t make it that far.
Perhaps the best meal you can buy in Austin. It's not cheap, I think $45 pp, but it's all you can eat from their amazing tapas menu. There's, probably 10-15 items to choose from. The thing that just astounds me is how good absolutely everything is on the menu. My wife and I were picking best and "worst" tapas as we went along, but again, our "worst" was still super flavorful and delicious.
The only negative I can say is that I think they could work on the interior decorating a bit. We were in the closed in porch area and the walls were pretty much blank. If they'd pop a little art on the walls, I think it would do wonders.
We enjoy this restaurant but I phoned ahead to let them know it was for a birthday and they never said a word to us about the birthday and they didn’t do anything to acknowledge. The restaurant was 1/4 full if that but our server kept rushing us to bring the next course even though we kept asking to slow things down. Food is excellent. We will return but please allow your clients to take their time and not be interrupted over and over.
This was our first Brunch Experience, and it lived up to the billing! A great selection of about 15 or so items, and all you can eat. We gorged. But this is no buffet food ... no, no. This is haute cuisine made with humanely raised meats and locally sourced ingredients. The grilled shrimp & grits was awesome. The fried chicken and mashed potatoes were great. The pigs in a blanket was divine. The bok choy was a surprise - a delightfully original presentation and it went very well with the other brunch items! We'll keep going back again and again!
