Terrible service. Our server had an attitude and was getting irritated with requests for silverware or extra napkins or straw. Was rude and knew that since it was a party of 8 they could automatically charge the 20% service fee, yet they didn’t want to work for the money. Food didn’t taste great. Wine choices were terrible (eventhough it was a French restaurant) and don’t forget you have to pay $5 an adult at the door just to enjoy the gardens. Not going back.
We have been here many times and we love it. We did need 2 Vegan options this time and I was told that the vegan versions could have been much better. The plastic water cups were also not ideal as they are not biodegradable.
As us older patrons try to introduce the younger generation to finer dining and the beautiful gardens, some more thought will need to be put into appealing to that generation.
An odd mixture of French classyness ambiance and almost cliché curt impatience by the server was not appreciated by the younger guests, and just ignored by the older.
The main draw is the gorgeous garden setting and social distancing means there is less activity overall. As result, the downsides were far outweighed by the positives. We were allowed to switch tables to be next to a bed of gorgeous flowers buzzing with bees and bumblebees in close proximity but yet way too busy doing their thing to stray over to our table.
Overall, great experience but need to do better to appeal to a younger clientele.
Wonderful venue and Cafe for my Birthday! It was my first time and I have been living in the area for years and years and always wanted to go to Sherman Gardens it did not disappoint I highly recommend going enjoying the food in Gardens
Delicious brunch, wonderful ambience. Current brunch menu not really suited for children. I’d suggest the Crêperie for the littles.
Great outdoor dining -- excellent food and service in a tranquil, scenic setting. (September 20th, 2020: 71 degrees Fahrenheit and a gentle ocean breeze )
Sunday brunches at Sherman Gardens are always wonderful experiences.
Too expensive for what you get. However it’s a beautiful place, and worth the experience
I’ve eaten here many times and have always been delighted with the food. It is a MUST place for me to bring guests from out of town. It’s a pleasure to sit outside and look at the garden while eating!
Love the ambience there! The food is always excellent- we enjoyed the shrimp provencal with grilled bread, chicken breast Provençal and the grilled lamb salad.
Food so good as was the service!
Highly recommend reservation
Great location in the Sherman Gardens.
Great for ladies day out or Sunday brunch.
Great place and great food, pricey and small portions. I am a member of the Sherman Library so I come to visit and eat at the Cafe Jardin often. This last visit was to celebrate my birthday.
I took my friend to Sherman Gardens. Everything was lovely, the gardens, the table, and the service. I ordered the Quiche and it was very good. But my friend ordered the Salad Lynonnaise and was very disappointed.....it was very ordinary, tasteless and listless. She said she felt like her Grandmother tossed it together at the last minute. With the price of the salad I expected much more.
We will return but look for something better..... I do wonder why you don't have a type of sandwich or some regular salads on the menu....like Caesar or Cobb?
The surroundings of the garden and the patio were lovely.....and relaxing. And we felt very safe with your Covid19 precautions. Thank you.
Enjoy the Moments
Wonderful gem in the midst of ordinary and unremarkable
Food and service was great, and the gardens spectacular
Very hospitable, clean and comfortable. We felt a very good value too. We will be back.
Cafe Jardin has it all. The food is delicious; the service is solicitous, but not at all obtrusive. The ambience can't be matched anywhere. Also, it is the perfect spot to go during the pandemic because the tables are far apart and COVID protocols are firm--masks, sanitizer, distancing and recording contact information in case contact tracing becomes necessary.
We've been there a lot and enjoyed trying many menu items. Some of our favorites are: trout almondine, oyster hors d'oeuvre, any of the soups, salmon with orange sauce, shrimp with unusual red sauce and the lemon tart.
I have eaten here 3 times in the last month. The food is good, the ambiance wonderful - it is a garden with lovely flowers - and the service is also good
It's a beautiful setting to have lunch. The food was very good but the service is lacking. More professional staff is needed.
What a treat!! I really didn’t know this place existed. I just wanted to visit due to an art installation they had. As I was doing research for tickets and saw all the COVID items I came across the restaurant. Made reservations and don’t regret it!! Food was outstanding and the setting was beautiful. We also Had a glass of Rose with lunch and it was quite nice.
Everything about Cafe Jardin was wonderful. I had the shrimp app and my friend had the salmon main dish and the apple tart dessert. I do wish that Sherman Gardens was more strict on proper mask wearing regulations. There were people walking around that just wore masks to get into the gardens and then promptly took them off. I won’t be going there again on a weekend because of this and will seriously consider my next visit.
Great food and wonderful view looking at one of the main gardens. What could be better?
Lovely peaceful outdoor setting with the patio facing the beautiful gardens. Couldn't decide between the salmon or the octopus so my friend & I shared both of them, and both were delicious. The service was very good.
Great garden setting brunch for spending an afternoon.
Service staff could have been nicer. Food was tasty but very small portion and overpriced. The location is what draws us there but would not eat at the restaurant again.
I took my mother to the cafe for the first time to celebrate her birthday. Such a wonderful meal and environment. Will return soon.
The shrimp appetizer was deiicious. The same for the flourless chocolate cake. The French Onion Soup was disappointing. Mimi's is larger, much cheaper, and better tasting.
Lovely spot for a nice traditional lunch.
Such a nice, relaxing summer lunch with great service! We sat in their lovely socially-distanced patio in the beautiful Sherman garden.
The service was wonderful. I had a few needs and they were taken care of very politely and promptly. We were not rushed and enjoyed our experience at the cafe.
Great location ! Amazing service and food. Fresh quality yummy food. Highly recommend this place plus you can see the gardens too
Wonderful food and setting. Have eaten here several times and they don’t disappoint.
Wonderful atmosphere. Ask for late reservation and it is like private dining.
We had a delightful brunch. Our server was excellent the food delicious. Pascal visited us to make sure we were happy and e gaged with our granddaughter to make sure she had what she needed. Beautiful experience
The food was exquisite—can highly recommend the Trout Almondine and the Apple Tarte Tatin
The setting in the midst of the (perfectly groomed) garden is such a treat for the eyes.
And best of all is the graciousness of
Chef Pascal—willing to share with our youngest guest the reasons for leaving the shrimp tails on the starter dish.
.......a perfect afternoon !
Cafe staff did a good job. Servers wore masks. A menu was in a plastic stand on the table which could be wiped off although I don't think it was. The menu has a nice variety of the choices. Service was good. I was there for lunch and it was a good place to be. The food was good and it's a lovely place to have lunch and enjoy the garden.
Wonderful, low key perfect location for a beautiful, relaxing lunch or brunch. The service and food is highly commendable. The ambiance is unique and relaxing. The menu is limited, but diverse. Truly is something for everyone. No child menu and think very few kids would enjoy this type of atmosphere. Restful and romantic experience during this crazy covid time. Tables spaced perfectly, restaurant dedicated restrooms.
Beautiful setting but the tiniest food with drizzled fare.
I’ll go back to the garden and library but will dine elsewhere.
Service was spotty as well.
How great to have lunch in a garden close to the ocean. Great service and good food. We had a blast finding this place.
Beautiful surroundings, fair (ok) food.
It was our first time dining here and it was wonderful; food, service and especially ambience. I would definitely recommend Cafe Jardin to family and friends. The menu is limited but both dishes were delicious and presented very well.
