Cafe Istanbul - Dallas - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Cafe Istanbul is a very pleasant change of pace. When you are looking for something healthy and not certain where to turn, give Cafe Istanbul a try. The meal will start with the best bread you have ever tasted. The appetizers and entrees were excellent and that wait staff was very friendly and attentive to our every need. If you continue to go to the same restaurants over and over again and walk away disappointed, try Cafe Istanbul for a very pleasant change of pace.
This was my first and probably only visit to Café Istanbul. I was extremely disappointed that the lamb shank prominently displayed on the menu was not available. Since we arrived at 6:30 pm, this problem was NOT a matter of selling out - it was a matter of not stocking something on the menu. The food was mediocre and the server had zero personality. All together it was a very lackluster experience and I have no plans to ever return.
My wife and I met an old friend for dinner. Service was very good. Greeted immediately and very attentive server. Atmosphere and decor very nice. Food was excellent. I had the Doner kebob and my wife had lamb cutlets. Best lamb we've ever had and all the sides were great too. Already talking about going back.
I have been to Cafe Istanbul many times and the food and service are both exceptional! I love it so much I chose to celebrate my birthday with friends. They accommodated our large group and treated us like royalty. Amazing food. Good wine list. Great ambience and HIGHLY recommended!
This was our first time to eat at cafe Istanbul. Overall we really enjoyed it but our service was extremely slow. We probably waited 30-35 minutes before ordering entrees after placing an order for our appetizers. When we were finished and paid our server told us the belly dancer was about to come out and to wait to leave so we could see her. A few minutes after the belly dancer came out a hostess asked us to leave if we were finished as they had "a million other reservations". I understand not holding up a table but the mixed signals from servers and long wait times caused me to have mixed feelings about this restaurant when leaving.
I don't know the name of the primary dish we had but I know it was meant for two and it had a variety of dishes to try! The surprise was the red cabbage....absolutely worth a taste. I ate ours up! For dessert we had the cinnamon pears. It's a delight to see chefs put effort into creative desserts.
I arranged for my son and daughter, their spouses, the grand children and some cousins to meet us at Cafe Istanbul for a surprise birthday party for my wife. I had reservations for twelve. Everyone arrived and was seated at a large table as per my instructions to Café I. It was handled so well my wife was completely surprised. We partied for three hours! The wine and traditional Turkish appetizers were wonderful and the food was great. (The picky grand kids liked the food and cleaned their plates). The Tavuk Beyti/ Stuffed Chicken was a favorite and my son loved the Lamb Chops.
Neenah came whirling thru about half halfway thru the party. It's a treat to be entertained by such a talented dancer. The grand kids were enchanted, my kids were amazed and my spouse was astonished, I am now a face book legend.
The staff served flawlessly without interrupting all the conversation and fun. We topped off the night with two deserts Kazandibi/ Turkish Flan and Ferin Sutlac/ Rice Pudding both were excellent.
The cost, "very reasonable", considering the generous portions of fun and food we enjoyed.
Cafe Istanbul was a great experience with amazing Turkish food. We ordered the mixed grill for two to try the variety of meats and it was a moderate portion that was delicious. The rice stood out the most as great. We also ordered the turkish tea and baklava and believe that it is a must have for the full experience. We got there on Saturday at 745 and there was a belly dancer that came at 8 and had an amazing performance that got danced to every table. The only thing was wish I was able to tip her.
We needed a reasonably priced, while still delicious restaurant to take a large multi-generation family group for brunch. I came upon Cafe Istanbul through Open Table. Met every expectation for food and space and exceeded those for service. New family favorite!
Being half Turkish, I had high hopes for finding some "roots" food in Dallas. The menu at Cafe Istanbul certainly has authentic items, and the service was friendly and personable. The food itself was just fine. Not great, but fine. The flavors were right, but the presentation was basic, and my dish arrived lukewarm. It seemed a little pricey for what you got. They have a lovely outdoor patio. Note: If belly dancers make you uncomfortable, this is not the place for you.
My Boyfriend and I Originally Chose Cafe Istanbul Because they were one of the only places still taking reservations so close to the holiday and I can honestly say that our experience was more then memorable, it was exquisite. Food was excellent, Atmosphere was perfect and our waitress Azadel Z went above and beyond to ensure that we would return.
While they greeted us very warmly, there was no music or belly dancing on a Friday night and they only served us 1 pita (we had 4 people). For a restaurant of this caliber, at lease please include the bread. They wanted us to pay for additional pita. The only outstanding dishes were the feta and hummus appetizer. However, again-they only served us 3 feta rolls and there were 4 of us. And, you would think at least 1 other pita would come with the hummus, but no. They should have told us that when we ordered because we ordered several appetizers. Although the server was friendly, we had to waive them down several times for various things - lemon - more water, etc. My husband's lamb chops were not the best quality and my chicken with pistachios was mediocre at best (and luke warm). Overall, not too thrilled. May give it another try if a friend suggests, but otherwise probably not.
This restaurant was wonderful. We booked it on open table for New Year's Eve, but received incorrect information from open table when I booked it. We were expecting live music and belly dancing for the night and when we got there we were told it was only at the Plano location. The management did try to see if we could get in over there, but they were unable too. I even showed them the confirmation e-mail from Open Table with their location and the entertainment lineup. We decided to stay for dinner and it was great. Best decision we made. The hummus was better than any I have ever had. The service was excellent. And my husband loved his pizza. The bread was warm and soft when it was brought to our table. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for new food or great food.
My wife and I had no idea what Turkish food was like but friends recommended this spot and we would definitely go back.
Not to be culturally insensitive, but to us, Turkish food is very similar to Greek food. So, if you like Greek food, you will enjoy this restaurant.
Everything we tried was good from appetizers to entrees but when we go back, I want to try the lamb shanks.
This is a lively and noisy spot, so it is perfect for a group but not for a romantic dinner for two.
The food at Café Istanbul is wonderful, the ambiance lovely and the service good. It is also open late, so it is convenient for post-Lakewood Theater dining. HOWEVER, when we arrived for dinner at about 10 (they took reservations until 11), they were very anxious to hurry us through the dining process and out the door. Which I did not appreciate. At all.
