There was a lot of confusion when it came to being seated. The staff was over whelmed when we arrived and the sat us in a table that was about 2 feet from other tables and right in the middle of servers so we were moved. Our water didn’t seem to be quite with it either. The food was good and the drinks were fantastic!
Restaurant hard to locate. Need of signage . Food was delicious.
Going to Malibu on a Sunday afternoon is always amazing but this restaurant needs to figure some things out. The screaming hot plates and the solidified beans would seem to indicate a microwave in use. The main course food had no flavor. Appetizers and desserts were the best part. Waitress was classic...like a satire of a spaced out beach girl; completely inattentive. The worst thing was watching the table of three next to us order more alcohol than could be reasonably consumed by a party of six and then see them walk to and get into their car to drive. This restaurant really needs to take some responsibility for the amount of alcohol consumption under their roof.
Greatly disappointed with service and food! Missed delivery of appetizers completely! Sent one dish back because it was rubbery. Even cafe leche was not good. Overall surprisingly disappointing and overpriced. Will not be back!
Food was delicious as usual. We ordered the shrimp tacos, quesadilla, cubano sandwhich with fries and the chicken enchiladas. Everyone’s meal was served hot and was flavored well. Nothing was too spicy or bland. Flavors were on point as was the service. Ambiance was casual but upbeat. We will be back again!
Tasty Latin fare, always good and fresh with attentive staff and a restaurant that is consistently good.
Horrible service; average food and extremely overpriced.
Our service was so below standard. I will be sending a private message to the restaurant... The food was good and I a girlfriends reunion so that is what made it so nice.
There is nothing Cuban about this restaurant. It is a Mexican restaurant. The overall feel was that it was dirty. We were seated right next to the kitchen even though we had a reservation and a walk-in was seated in the more cozy looking booth ahead of us. Full giant trays of food were whisked over my head on the hurried way out of the kitchen. A dirty broom was propped up against the wall outside the kitchen and in the kitchen which we could look right into, a filthy mop was visible. The music was very loud and did not contribute to the ambience of the themed restaurant. I think they were playing punk rock. The thought crossed our mind that perhaps our waiter was high on something. Forgotten drinks mediocre service. The bill was just plopped down on our table with no follow-up after dinner. I have to say the food was pretty good. I ordered steak tacos. Nothing special. Overpriced, but decent. The rice was tasty. Overall this place needs an overhaul. I will not go back.
Uno dei posti migliori in cui sono stata. Cibo ottimo e servizio impeccabile
We love this restaurant because of the combination of the ambiance, location, and prices!
Although there is nothing Cuban about the food here (it's Mexican), the carne asada is AMAZING.
Always good food and good service, great place for lunch or dinner
The quality of food has gone down in quality since a visit from a year ago. Our tortilla chips were all crumbs, like somebody poured out the bottom of a tortilla bag. The salsa was just bland and awful. A Latin themed restaurant MUST have good chips, salsa and guacamole. The enchilada was under cooked, the tacos were average but the tortillas had the texture of rubber. Overall we were most definitely not satisfied with the food. The server was nice, but he seemed a bit overwhelmed with the Sunday crowd, we had to repeatably as him for better chips, refills, etc. The price of all this? Expensive, like Javier's expensive with a sub par El Torrito quality food. Would not recommend to anyone.
Food fair. Hostess was wearing cut offs, flip flops, bare midriff top and hoodie, not the first impression I expected. Restaurant was in need of maintenance. Seats in our booth were torn and taped together, window shades in need of repair.
Last time I was here it was run better and food was better. Are they under new management? Very disappointing.
The name Cafe Habana is sooo misleading. There is nothing Cuban about the restaurant except the name and the pictures on the wall.
Horrible they were allowing customers to use vapes
Our waitress was very hard to find and when she finally arrived to take our order, she was very uninterested and seemed ore-occupied. We had to ask other staff members for additional service.
We’ve been twice at different times and both time busy or slow service is terrible. Order your bar drinks two at a time. Servers are never to be seen. We had ordered a marg right when our food came and didn’t get it WELL after we were done eating and that was after we reminded the server about it. I don’t know if the servers don’t want to sell drinks and only want to serve you one and done, but the service both times feels like that “island life” service you get on vacation where no one cares and is never in a rush for anything, including bringing you the check. You are sitting in front of a table full of finished plates waiting for your bar drink that would be your second drink and no one comes and busses the table even after you ask for the check. Food is good and that’s what we would come back for, maybe just Togo food because the service is so slow and lacking.
Crear good justbas The venue i visited un NY 15 years ago.
If you are going there for the food, don't. All this place has going for it is the location and ambiance. The food was bland and not really Cuban, with tacos and enchiladas. I had been to the one in NYC and was expecting the same level of food and was sorely disappointed.
We were sat right away and served very quickly. Everyone was friendly and helpful! It’s. It pretentious but the staff is knowledgeable. We had enchiladas, a salmon burger and shrimp tacos. All were served hot and as we ordered. The food was delicious! Highly recommend checking it out.
Fun Malibu hangout especially sitting outside on the covered patio drinking a marguerita
we waited over 45 minutes to get seated after our reservation time. Two of our orders were wrong. Forgot our chips.
The food was good but not at the inflated prices that they came with. I ordered the shrimp dish for close to $30 and at any other restaurant either the shrimp would be larger or at least 3 more would have been on the plate. I had 4 very small shrimps on my plate. Thank God for the chips and salsa . I think they need to adjust their prices, I realize it's Malibu but come on. Total rip off
Yummy food and good waiter
We had a long drive (6 hours) and didn’t make it to the restaurant until 8:15pm, which was unusually late for us for a dinner with two little kids (1 and 3) but our kids were well-behaved, and yet I got the feeling bringing children was frowned upon. The restaurant was loud so we didn’t stick out like a sore thumb with the noise. Our waitress was EXTREMELY slow in serving us, whether it be our initial drinks or refills, etc, and yet I saw her very attentive to other surrounding tables. I was SO excited to eat here (we drove 45 min out of the way to do so) bc I dearly love Cafe Habana in NYC (Soho). The two locations have very different vibes, NYC is a hole-in-the-wall tiny joint that has a cozy feel while the Malibu location is very upscale and has a pretentious feel to it. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and it was brought out on a hamburger bun, not the regular bread I saw it on at other tables, the meat dry and no real sauce to it. The Cuban sandwich at the location in NYC was amazing, this was one I didn’t want to finish. The corn was just as good as I remembered in NYC though. Chips and salsa were delicious and are available upon request! Pricing was good. We most likely will not be back to this location but I dream of the next time I can revisit the location in NYC (have been many times in the past).
The food quality and taste is awful. Had an awful time. Not going back.
Always great, even on a dark day. New Margaritas with Jalapeños and cucumber. Corn is always fun.
Café Habana is a wonderful place to go for a great meal. Excellent location, great food, and skinny margaritas and tacos are out of this world!!
Good but not great Cuban and Mexican fare. The Cuban food could be more authentic.
Service was terrible - there wasn’t any ... had to ask for everything...
Nothing much to say . Service average , food average. And value average. Over all average
Seemed like a fun place but then quickly became annoying. They only have 1 bathroom so you get to wait right in a doorway at the bar just to wash up. Servers want to move you along quickly. Food is NOT great, supposed Cuban inspired. Decent cocktails with only Casamigos Tequila for obvious reasons. Good less expensive option if you have kids with you, especially for this particular Malibu location.
We were celebrating my daughters birthday. She always chooses this restaurant for her birthday every year and is never disappointed. Thank you for always keeping the menu, service and environment the same because that is what we come to with the restaurant for.
Had higher expectation - nothing special about the location, definitely didn't get a sense of being in Malibu. Food was average at best and service slow and disjointed. Not going to make a return visit.
Our favorite Mexican food! Truly the tastiest fish tacos in town, and fantastic margaritas!
The service and ambiance was nice, but the food was bland and not worth the pricing. I wish I could say it was what I was hoping for, but was disappointed. The service was ok although our waitress didn’t really come over to ask if we were ok that often. We asked one of the bussers for the things we needed two times. It was easier than flagging her down.
The restaurant was very crowded and understaffed. We waited an unreasonably long time for our server, and even longer for our food and drinks to come. One of our orders never came. Not sure I will be going back there, for sure not on a weekend.
They denied us a table even when we had a reservation.
