Cafe Habana Ratings and Reviews
Cafe Habana Malibu was easy to find but there aren't many parking spaces in front of the restaurant for customers. The Cubano sandwich was delicious although the Ultimate Margarita was just okay. (But that may be because I ordered it without any alcohol.) Great ambiance and good service too. I'd like to visit again to try a different menu and would recommend the place to my friends as well.
Food & drinks are good-great(somewhat inconsistent). Fun vibe, great people watching. Service is poor-fair. You always kind of get the feeling your inconveniencing your server. Yes, it’s Malibu, but your still in the service industry. Get over yourselves. If you can bring your sense of humor with you about the service, you’ll be fine.
Although the food was good, the service was disappointing. We heard great things about their guacamole and ordered it but couldn’t eat it because they ran out of Corn chips. It took 40 minutes to get the chips. Very disappointing. The waitress neglected to notify us of the delay on the chips when we ordered the guacamole and didn’t come back to fill water or provide drink refills.
My husband and I had fortunately made reservations at this popular spot in Malibu, so we were seated promptly. It was quite noisy and busy, but our servers were attentive. I was disappointed that the menu was primarily Mexican fare and would have liked a more Cuban experience, but everything we had was tasty, with generous portions.
I love Cafe Habana - but this particular night i was really disappointed with the service. When I walked in it took 10 minutes for someone to help me, when it wasn’t busy at all and the staff was just sitting at the dining tables laughing. Our waitress wouldn’t give us the time of day and was very rude. She left before taking our whole order, didn’t even give one of us the chance to order.
I love Cafe Habana and their steak tacos are one of my favourite meals anywhere but this last experience really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Yummy food and great servers! We decided to go for the Elotes off the cob, as recommended by our server, for the appetizer. As well as splitting the taco soup. I opted for the mahi mahi Fish tacos for my main, and my guest got the Cubano sandwich. We left with full and happy bellies, and are already planning our trip back!!
Not what I would say is authentic Cuban food - more like SoCal Cuban mexican with a delicious overall quality. If I lived locally, this would be a go to place. We went on a sinday afternoon with on an OT reservation asking for outside. We were seated immediately. Drinks were pricey, but way delicious.
Shrimp tacos - yes. Cubano - yes. Grilled corn - yes. Shirt ceviche - eh (leave off the lettuce - then Yes.
Our 9 month old loved it all.
I go to Cafe Habana pretty regularly, because of the food and usually great service. I have to say that Friday night's service was atrocious. Took an extraordinarily long time to get our drinks, we had to ask for more salsa and water refills three times before someone actually helped us out. Food was great, though!
We ate out in patio area in relaxing setting and had some margaritas's after a hard days work and we started with hot goat cheese quesadillas. Our entrees were sizzling hot and cooked to perfection. We had carne asada and enchiladas both outstanding. Were sad to here the owners are getting a divorce. Our waitress was excellent and patient.
Such a disappointment. Lunch here is fine. Waitress acted like she was doing us a favor by taking our order. Not enough wait staff for sure. The whole evening was unorganized and rushed. And we sat outside but it was too loud and chaotic. When I go out to eat with friends we like to visit and enjoy conversation. This evening felt hectic, rushed, chaotic and bad.
The outdoor ambiance is typically worth the slow service. Attention to detail isn't a strong suit but if you eat here enough, you lower your expectations. One thing that was so disgusting this last time was dining next to a table of two women and their dogs. Watching dogs lick food off of the dining plates on the table was enough to make anyone sick...understand dog lovers but honestly, there should be some common sense of decorum when dining at a restaurant. Why the restaurant allows this is beyond me. Seems like is a health code issue.
The setting is lovely. We ordered guacamole which arrived after our main courses, and only when I asked (also it was pretty much just squished avocado and needed lemon juice and some flavour)
Generally the service was quite slow and intermittent. We went on a Sunday for brunch but when we arrived were informed they don't have a brunch menu and never have, despite there being one on their website. Our bill arrived and it was wrong and for the wrong table (in our favour) which we informed them of even though they hadn't noticed and we paid the correct (much higher) amount - but they didn't really seem to appreciate we had been so open and honest...plus I felt sorry for the other table who had apparently received our bill, which was much higher than theirs, and paid it then left their table.
The staff were very polite and friendly and the food flavours and presentation were great, but at $90 for two adults and one child for a casual brunch it also seemed expensive compared to other casual Mexicans. Had they done an epic brunch I'd have thought it worth it, but it was just tacos and salads, as you can get anywhere...but slower.
fun place! the craft margaritas are excellent! the watermelon mint and the cucumber jalapeno very refreshing The gaucamole is one of the best I've had and the corn and cheese salsa is yummy as well. Shrimp Taco's were a hit- steak taco's good, but not outstanding. Service acceptable, but drinks took longer than we would hoped. all and all- it was great and we would return.
