About Cafe Gia Ristorante
In 1953, Giovanna Aquia, along with her family, boarded the famous Italian luxury liner the “Andrea Doria” and made their way to America from Cefalu, Sicily, arriving in Little Italy, Baltimore on June 23, 1953. Their family life always revolved around the dinner table. It was there that a great appreciation of simple Sicilian cuisine took root.
It was the desire to share our Sicilian heritage and Sicilian cuisine that prompted the family to buy an older neighborhood diner and create a new, warm, comfortable family ristoranté in Little Italy, “Café Gia Ristoranté.” We have strived very hard to recreate a Sicilian bistro, a place where one feels like they are in Sicily while dining. Buon appetito!

Cafe Gia Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
The food was fine but the service was not good. We will not be running back to this restaurant. It's a shame that no one felt the need to come over to our table to check on us, including one of the owners who walked by us multiple times and never said a word to us. Not a great dining experience. They also have no side salads which was disappointing.
The decor was fantastic! Such upbeat, colorful walls with pleasant staff and delicious food. The mussels were gigantic. The eggplant was the best I’ve ever tasted! It was so fresh and flavorful without the usual grease associated with eggplant. The shrimp fra’diavlo was fantastic and spicy as implied. The tiramisu was very good and the chocolate crepe brûlée was tremendous in flavor and preparation! Gia is sweet and caring! We will definitely be back. What a great find. 😎
Excellent experience! Both momma and Gia were there and most hospitable. Momma G told us her story of coming from Sicily on the Andrea Doria with her parents. The chef is from Italy too which is definitely reflected in the very authentic, home style Italian food. Cafe Gia is the full package, outstanding food served by a personable waitstaff in a casual but upscale setting.
We went for a friends night out and we all had a superb experience. The octopus was so tender and delicious. The beef carpaccio was perfectly prepared.
For entrees we all tasted and sampled each other’s and we agreed that the Osso Buco was the best we’ve ever had. The homemade pastas were outstanding and seasoned perfectly.
Get the limoncello after your meal...it’s homemade!
Cafe Gia- is beautiful inside and out and the food is phenomenal! A must if you are visiting Little Italy! The mother and daughter Team that run Cafe Gia are so warm and welcoming you feel like you are invited to their home for dinner! I had a roasted beet and fennel salad that was so beautiful and so delicious ! Followed by an oven roasted flounder with lemon , rosemary and olive oil that was so fresh and so delicious you would have sworn you were eating at seaside cafe in Sicily! My father , my daughters and my husband all had equally delicious meals ! There is nothing on the menu or the specials that you won't love ! This was our 4th time to Little Italy on a stay In Baltimore- we regret we didn't find Cafe Gia sooner ! We will return to Cafe Gia every time we are in Baltimore ! We had a wonderful evening at Cafe Gia and know you will too! We cannot wait to go back !!
We have been here several times both for lunch and dinner. The food has always been excellent. We heard that the chef is from Sicily. He certainly is good. Gia greeted us at the door. It's always nice to know they're happy to see you. Very, very welcoming woman. She gave us a table for four on the first floor which I had asked for on Open Table. The 4 dishes we chose were a pork shank, 2 pasta dishes with a bolognese sauce, and veal saltimbocca. They were excellent. I might make a suggestion about the bowls the pasta were in.I thought a larger plate would have made for a better presentation. The only other critique would be that the tomatoes on the caprese salad seemed like hot house tomatoes instead of some fresh MD tomatoes. But Gia's is a great place and one of the better places in Little Italy and we've been to most of them. We will definitely be back.
We met friends at Cafe Gia upon the recommendation (and gift certificate) from a friend. They were OUT OF ICE TEA AND CREAM FOR COFFEE! How can that be? Service was slow, the waiter was unprofessional. When I asked when we might expect our food, he replied, "when it's ready." The quality of the food was okay. I wrote an email directly to the restaurant - if I was the owner/manager I'd want to know what needs to be addressed. No reply...I guess that says it all!
The service and building are wonderful. The quality of the food is fantastic as well. The seafood was very fresh and the pasta had a wonderful consistency. The issue is with the taste. The sauces did not have much flavor which led everything to be rather dull. Not bad, but not the best in little Italy.
Would not recommend this restaurant. There are plenty of other much better italian and seafood options within walking distance. The service was terrible because they only had ONE server during peak dinner time. Several of our orders were wrong and neighboring tables even sent back their food, and some just left. Very small, not good wine list and twice we had to send our glasses back due to LIPSTICK STAINS still on the rim.
Gia's is an absolute gem! The Italian food is both authentic and delicious. Every dish had the perfect balance of seasoning. You cannot go wrong no matter what you order. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. I will go back again and gain!
This was our 2nd visit to Gia's and we weren't disappointed. There were 6 of us and every meal was delicious. Seafood dishes are our favorite but the classic pastas are fabulous as well. The appetizers were awesome as well... especially fond of the calamari and burrata served with fresh peaches and arugula! Best food in Little Italy.
even though there was a group of 20 seated upstairs who arrived at the same time as us, our meal was perfectly paced and delicious and we had no sense that this otherwise intimate restaurant was overwhelmed. The menu is varied and delicious. Great as always.
