Cafe Genevieve Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant came highly recommended to us. The menu selection was not a lot, the prices were high for what we got. My husbands hamburger was almost bleeding. He had ordered medium well. I got what the waiter described as steak soup. It had two small pieces of undercooked steak on top along with a few vegetables and a very runny broth. It didn't taste bad, just not at all what we expected. We had such wonderful food in Jackson up to that point so it was disappointing. We will cross that off our list for. Ext time.
The food was good, no doubt it was comfort food on a high scale. The "pig candy" was unique and worth a try. The meals were very good. Our complaint was in service. Our attendant was quite frankly not good at all. He did not tell us about any of the specials even after we asked about a special dish we saw on a Diners, Drive Ins and Dives segment. He was unresponsive on many levels. That made a great experience turn lousy and left a very bad feeling about the restaurant and its attention to customer service. Sad.
Adorable cabin, so cozy! Great concept. We loved the pan fried brussel sprouts! My only comment is everything we ordered (potato soup, brussel sprouts, salad) was sweet. I LOVE dessert and wasn't even up for it at the end of the meal. Would try it again and maybe just order differently.
We loved our dinner at Cafe Genevieve. The place has a very local, casual ambience. We had the trout, which was excellent. So fresh. It was served on a bed on white beans, kale, bacon, and red pepper coulis. I could have made a meal of just that. For dessert, we shared blackberry pie that was as good as the best home-made.
We thought the food was pretty good, but not awesome considering the price. Our server was competent, but not friendly. We were disappointed when we realized that we paid the tip twice. An 18 percent gratuity was already added onto the check, but the check still had another line to add a tip. We ended up tipping 38 percent on our meal! The ticket was misleading.
The trout dish was twice the size of another restaurant we ate at in town and prepared well. I had the burger which was plentiful along with more fries than any one person should eat. Service was attentive. There is a nice deck for outside dining in decent weather.
We were in Jackson for our last night before heading home from our road trip.
Cafe Genevieve was a close walk to our hotel. The food was fine, not the best meal you're ever going to have, but fine. The problem was our server. He never introduced himself when he came to the table. He seemed exceptionally tired and had no energy or enthusiasm for his job.
He answered some questions about the menu and took our drink orders. I also gave him our order for our starter. He brought the drinks back, then took our order for our main course.
After waiting a bit, we were never offered bread and our main courses were delivered. Our "starter" was never delivered! He found out the starter never came before our main courses and I think he apologized and mentioned something about dessert.
We ordered blackberry pie that turned out to be bland. Needed a bit of sugar.
And to end the evening, he charged us for the pie! Most servers would've comped it since part of our order was messed up.
A perfectly nice place for a reasonably priced, tasty meal. Nothing too special (except the house salad, of all things, which was super-fresh and terrifically flavored, and the cheesecake recommended by our server, which was outstanding), but tasty and not over-priced. A good choice for a casual evening.
Having eaten here 3-4 times a year over the past 5 years this was a disappointing experience. Over the last two visits I've given them the benefit of the doubt on the food but it has become average at best. Moreover, the service was disorganized, one example being our server asking us if we'd like a dessert menu before we received our entree. There are many others in town with better food and service at a similar price point.
Inside dining area was nice, but a bit dark. Service was good. Food was mediocre. $42 steak was only ok. My husband who never leaves steak on his plate left half of it. My ratatoullie was more like whole baby squash and very seedy eggplant with some grape tomatoes. We were a bit disappointed.
Three of us went there for the fresh trout. The menu said crispy trout with bacon, kale and white beans. All three of us ordered the trout without bacon, one not a meat eater, the other two thinking it might overpower the fish. The fish was dry, the skin was not crispy. The kale too was dry. Wouldn't suggest it if you're expecting a good old fashioned pan fried in butter dish.
