Cafe Gabbiano Ratings and Reviews
The best Italian restaurant in Sarasota/ Siesta Key area. All of the pastas are perfectly crafted, weather traditional or contemporary and creative. There’s an excellent selection of locally sourced fish options and meat dishes as well. the appetizers are great and the wine list is extensive and compelling. The house bottled wines are made with lesser-known but high-quality regional wineries from Italy. They are very moderately priced and good. The service is excellent and the ambience is charming. On a chilly night you can sit inside and enjoy the Italian Villa atmosphere. on warmer nights the outdoor patio is very agreeable. has no view but is well decorated And furnished.
Best Italian restaurant on Siesta Key - maybe in all of Sarasota! Amazing wine list including their own labels. Friendly, efficient service including the young men who bus the tables. Food is outstanding. Save room for the Creme Brulé! We both had veal dishes and they were tender, buttery and delicious. More than enough to take some home. Jordan was an attentive and efficient server, and Luis was a perfect busser. We never miss the chance to eat at Café Gabbiano when we are on Siesta Key!
Fantastic Italian restaurant! We took an anniversary trip to Sarasota and normally always eat along St. Armand’s circle. Wanting to try something new we searched for a new restaurant on Open Table and found a winner with Cafe Gabbiano. As their info says, get ready for a long meal, but it is very enjoyable, more like classic European style dining than fast paced American. We started with the chefs choice cheese board, excellent bruschetta and smoked cheeses on it. Next course was a fresh made Caesar salad that did not disappoint. I had the lobster ravioli in vodka sauce which has nice chunks of lobster in it, not just flavoring. My husband had the filet with risotto that he is still raving about.
Tom our server, and Regan our seater made us feel at home and helped celebrate our anniversary. We will be back for sure!
Overall a great meal at Cafe Gabbiano. The food was great and they accommodated our party easily (4 kids, 4 adults). Our only complaint was the service. It was both slow and uncoordinated. It seemed like the front, the servers and the kitchen were all disconnected. While our service was slow from our particular server, we spoke with a neighboring table and they were similarly nonplussed by the speed of service. The table that was there after them had a similar experience. Three tables with a consistent experience is a trend that says they need to evaluate their service/servers/coordination. That said, on to the food.
We got some cocktails which were delicious, the ladies having the various mules and the gents having the blue cheese martinis. The calamari appetizer was a little small but favorable and a nice crunch to it. The bread that comes out is likewise delicious and plentiful. We ordered several entrees and served family style and that worked out quite well. The gnocchi was great, the ravioli was delicious and the veal special was pretty good as well. For dessert we split the chocolate mousse and it was rich and creamy as one would expect from a nice restaurant. All in all, really good food for a little spot on Siesta Key.
One last part to mention, parking was plentiful for dinner on a holiday weekend and that was a personal victory as sometimes not being able to park at a restaurant really gets under my skin. So if they can work on their service, they'll be a place we'll return to again and again.
Service was excellent and the food was wonderful. Beautifully prepared and nicely served. Wine by the glass is quite pricey but was very good. We arrived early, with a reservation; but, were seated at a 'very small' table for two, angled in a tight corner. It was explained that there was a function planned for later in the evening and that the restaurant expected to become very busy. We were happy to accommodate in light of this; although, this was a special birthday celebration (however, we chose not to share that information). We did finish our meal and leave before a number of more spacious tables had been filled - resulting in a little disappointment over the 'tight quarters'. We would absolutely recommend this restaurant both for food and overall ambiance.
The food was fantastic. Our table was less than stellar, right next to two large groups. We asked to be moved and they accommodated us, but they should have known better to begin with. Luckily the food was so good because the server forget to check on us until we were done eating. Overall, we will go back for the food.
This was our third time here in less than three months, which for us, says a lot.
We sat at the bar the first two times, but this time sat a table in the dining room.
The food was just as good and our guests enjoyed our selections of dishes we had tried before. The wine list is very extensive ( a bit hard to read in the dim light, and with middle aged eyes). The house wine is delicous and moderately priced to enjoy with the great dishes.
There was a little issue, and it was resolved right away and they made up for the issue, so it will not be a deterant when deciding if/when we return! Great job!!! We will all look forward to coming again soon!
Cafe Gabianno was a disappointment. They had a wedding party the night of our dinner. The wedding may have stretched the staff as we had to wait 20 minutes just to get a cocktail. The dinner itself was mixed. My swordfish (a special) was outstanding. But my wife’s veal scallopini (another special) was mediocre. The sauce was “goopy”. My pasta side was just okay—kind of bland tasting. My wife’s sauteed spinich was bad—it had a bitter, metalic taste. Our waiter appologized for the slow service and gave us a complimentary glass of wine. But since the food itself was nothing special, it’s unlikely we’ll be back.
This is a very nice place - great menu choices and a very long and ambitious wine list. We dined here on New Years Eve - it was very nice and also very busy. The food and wine was excellent - the Grouper and Veal dishes were terrific and the cheese/meat plate in advance, along with the bread, was very very good. We completely enjoyed the food and wine - the service was a bit slow...guessing this had something to do with busy NYE night - we'll try again on another night to check. Everything was slow - greeting, wine, pre-dinner food and main dish - too bad because food was excellent.
Food was good, service was good. We would have preferred to be seated in the more open part of the restaurant. The small private area in which we were seated was a bit stuffy, close quarters and became too warm. A good thought for privacy but probably less confining with fewer than 8 people.
We have eaten at Gabbiano's quite a few times, and we have always been very pleased. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. The wait-staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The menu has a variety of interesting and different dishes, as well as traditional Italian fare. Just make sure you leave room for one of their wonderful desserts.
Cafe Gabbiano was recommended by friends, and we read the generally favorable reviews on Open Table, so we gave it a try. Although it is in the heart of Siesta Key, the inside is well decorated and seems more intimate than the large space would suggest. The biggest problem is the service, and we are not suggesting the blame necessarily lies with the wait staff. I took about 15 minutes before we got a drink, and 20 before bread was delivered. Note that the restaurant was only about 2/3 full, even though it was between Christmas and New Years. By the time our salad came, we had been there for an hour, and our main course finally appeared about 1 1/2 hours after we arrived. Now for the food. It is quite good, although not special. I had their mixed seafood over linguini in a red sauce. The seafood, consisting of shrimp, mussels, etc. was fresh and cooked very well. The pasta also was cooked well. My wife had a different seafood dish and it also was quite good. So, if you don't mind an unduly long wait to eat, give it a try. However, there are better Italian restaurants in Sarasota so we are unlikely to return soon.
We had a fantastic time at Café Gabbiano.
It was the first time we had spent Christmas outside the UK and this experience was well worth the trip.
Merry Christmas and thank you !!
Fully recommend this restaurant.

I’m happy at least the food was pretty good because the service was awful. Spending so much on dinner for such poor service and pretty OK food... spent $110 on a bottle of wine... it just was not worth it. We branched out to go here. But we will be sticking with FLAVIO’S! Step it up. Very disappointed.
This is a cute and quite Wine Bistro type place. It has a large wine list; average menu with average quality and OVERPRICED food and wine. We are not sure how the ratings were so high but our suggestion would be to look for good or great Italian food elsewhere and save money.
