Cafe Felix - Ann Arbor Ratings and Reviews
Terrible! We didn’t see a waitress for a long time and then she proceeded to tell us what they didn’t’ have!! What bar runs out of tonic? And no French onion soup, at a French restaurant??? Really? We got up and left and went and had a fabulous meal at Knights!
Service was rushed at beginning, suggest bringing wine, then asking for food choices- it was done all at once. A nice wine was poured and a tasting did not happen to check the wine, the glasses were the wrong one for a red wine. Then toward end it was hard to get someone’s attention. The food was very good. The chef should be complimented.
The waitress was nice yet not very professional.
We had brunch again today - Great breakfast - chicken and waffles with egg - (I added an extra egg and bacon) - the extras are very reasonable cost. Wife had the vege quiche - both were awesome - she added a chocolate croissant - this place has very different brunch items and is well worth a look. We will be back!
There wasn't anyone else dining inside the restaurant and there were 4 tables with people dining on the patio outside.
No one waited on our table inside for about 15 minutes. I then approached the person at the desk at the entrance and asked exactly who was our waiter??
He apologized and then sent someone over to take our order.
It took quite a while to get our food.
The food was very good………… the service was extremely slow.
There were parts of the evening that could have been better... the food took a long time, the steak frites has been changed, and we felt rushed because they were closing at 9:30 on a Saturday night. After a decade of meals here, I could have overlooked an off night. However, I will not go back because I ordered decaf coffee and was served regular instead (as I write this at 4 am). It feels unethical and confirms my feeling that the server's main priority was leaving early. There are so many fantastic restaurants in Ann Arbor there is no reason to continue going to the mediocre ones. (I am updating my review to say that I spoke to a manager, who was very professional, responsive, and sorry about our experience. A good sign that they were having an off night.)
went for brunch - nice menu - varied items - had the egg and deconstructed pork belly hash - the hash was ok - actually seemed like sausage not pork belly. Ordered a side croissant - $4 was way overpriced for what i considered a 50 cent croissant. and no jam - the cook did not come in - so they gave me packets of strawberry jam - but they were spoiled -
Made a reservation for 3 on a Friday night, got seated promptly in the back of the restaurant. Our server didn't show up until 10 minutes after with water and a smile. We ordered our drinks and appetizers, those were brought in a timely manner. However, when one of them wasn't to our liking our server was way out on the patio and seemed very harried and didn't check on us until we got the attention of another server. While we were enjoying our apps, a couple of employees decided to plop down silverware at the two tables near us and proceeded to wrap it and literally bang it into a plastic tub, which spoiled the ambience of it all.! We finally had to speak with the manager, who said she would take care of the matter. Then, we ordered our entrees which did not come for over one whole hour which to me was not acceptable at all, especially when the restaurant was neither busy nor full and we got no explanation from the server ever or to mention that our food would take so long! Needless to say we will not be returning to this restaurant! There are just so many other great ones to visit, instead.
We loved sitting outside beside Main Street Ann Arbor ... weather and atmosphere was perfect! But, I had someone visiting from out of town and I was really embarrassed by the terrible service. We were seated quickly outside and told someone would be with us shortly with water, etc. After a really noticeably long time and watching all the other tables being served, I went inside and asked for service. Someone came out with water and said the waitress would be out soon...so, just decided our table did not get assigned to someone. But the whole meal and ordering was really dragged out...really would not have been able to order another glass of wine! The deviled eggs appetizer was runny and bland, should have been chopped into an egg salad sandwich. My Croque Monsieur sandwich was dry and actually so crunchy it was falling a part and difficult to eat. One guest said their Steak Frites was good and one said just okay. It would be one thing to have bad service and good hot food, or great service and average food, but this was noticeably bad on both ends! But, I think something was just off with the waitress and I will end up going again because of the atmosphere outdoors! And I do like a good Croque Monsieur!
Service was extremely slow even though the restaurant was not very busy. We had to put our appetizer serving plates in an adjacent chair that were not picked up when entrees arrived. Two of us ordered mussels. They were very small and very overcooked. Manager did remove them from our bill. Others at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meals.
I've long thought that Cafe Felix was one of Ann Arbor's most under-appreciated restaurants -- especially when I read some of its reviews. If you love classic French bistro dishes and fairly-priced everyday French wines, served up in a French bistro atmosphere, you should look no further. If you're expecting haute cuisine or the latest trends in dishes and preparations, you may want to dine elsewhere. This time around, I enjoyed a perfectly-prepared croque-monsieur sandwich with fries at lunchtime, along with a Caesar salad and glass of Picpoul while wine. Plus attentive, timely service. Excellent!
This was a terrible experience. Table for 8 and $300 for restaurant week. The reservation was for 7:15 and we were seated promptly. We ordered drinks and chose our dinner by 7:30. The drinks and appetizers were slow to arrive but not to big a deal. At 9:00 we had to find our waiter and ask about our main course. It took about 10 more minutes before they arrived. We were comped 5-$5 for the slow drinks. When they cleared the dishes we were told that all they needed to do was make the crepes and they would serve the dessert. At 10:15 we had to get up and ask for our check. Even though we never received our dessert we were charged the full $28 per person price. The quality of the food we received was good.
Will not be going back and may not participate in restaurant week again.
I made a reservation for Saturday night dinner assuming it would be very busy. When we arrived at 7:15 there were tons of open tables inside. Our server didn't tell us anything about the restaurant or the menu, and barely introduced herself. I had never been to Cafe Felix and was excited to try it but I would say it was nothing special. It has a fine menu and the food tasted very good but we waited 45 minutes for it (when the restaurant wasn't crowded). Our server never checked on us, and by the time we were ready to pay, we had to go and find her. I won't completely write off Cafe Felix but I wouldn't think of it as a great restaurant based on my first experience.
I have been to Café Felix several times before and enjoyed dinners there, but this was the first time having brunch. I was surprised with the diversity of offerings. I had the breakfast crêpes with salmon and they were delicious. Friends also enjoyed the stuffed French toast, omelette, and chicken and waffles. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful to our needs. I will definitely go back again for brunch.
Had lunch with my daughter and we had the choice of breakfast or lunch. She had the burger and I had a salmon sandwich. I ask for it on a different bread and was a bit disappointed that it wasn't otherwise prepared as described on the menu and the way that I'd had it on a previous visit which was much better. The service was friendly and adequate. However, hearing plates and glasses crashing to the floor is annoying and this happened at my last visit also. While I will return, I know where to place the bar (of expectations) in order to enjoy the visit.
Uninspired fare, and pricey, to boot. Loud patrons and high ceilings meant we were intimately involved in the conversations around us--without trying to eavesdrop. Waitstaff was not very attentive--water went empty for long periods of time. Dishes were served to wrong person (there were only 2 of us).
Everything we ordered was very, very good. Service was extraordinarily slow. Dinner started at 7:30 and we finished at 10:30. It was a Saturday night but the restaurant was not very crowded. Maybe understaffed? Don't know. Of course we don't want to feel rushed but neither do we want to feel ignored. So if you can be patient, the food is really worth the wait in our opinion.
Based on other reviews, we were worried about service, but ours was excellent. We were seated as soon as we arrived in the quiet space we asked for, and our courses arrived well-spaced. Our table was in the back of the restaurant where we couldn't hear the noise from the bar or TV's. The Brussels Sprouts appetizer was delicious and enough to share. We both ordered the burgers--as did many people to judge by the trays that passed by--and they were perfectly cooked and, again, delicious. Not as "French" as we'd anticipated, but very good nonetheless.
