Great food, great service, I love coming here. Great neighborhood spot. The cabbage rolls and goulash were awesome!
Cafe Europa is a bit of a throw back, a place you might expect to find in Budapest. Our food was delicious. We ordered family style and shared plates to make a several course dinner. Favorites were the herring, pierogi and goulash. The ambiance is quaint and authentic. Great selection of Eastern European beers.
Alex did an outstanding job! Food is always delicious!
A quaint sedate restaurant. However, I found the food to be bland.
The Veal Schnitzel was fabulous. The soups were all excellent. The beer in a boot was great!
I like cafe Europa. They serve excellent food in decent price.
Good Italian food
We love this place! We ha e been coming here with friends for over a year and it’s one of the best restaurants for a down-home Polish meal in great surroundings. The staff are wonderful and the menu is great.
For such a highly rated restaurant, place was empty when we rolled in at 630. Food was good, not great. No ambiance whatsoever, server spent more time playing on his phone then he did ‘serving’. Prices were low to moderate. Claimed to have many vegetarian options, which was true if you only wanted to eat appetizers-no vegetarian entree’s.
I have been to Cafe Europa many times and it is always consistent.
I am so happy they have put Beet Salad back on the menu.
I usually have Cabbage Rolls. They used to serve two and now they only serve one on a plate with mashed potatoes. I found that two Cabbage Rolls were too much for me and serving one (for lesser price) is just perfect.
I highly recommend Cafe Europa for German and Polish Food.
Great all around. Owner stopped by several times to make sure we were Ok
Great food and authentic ambiance. The owner is so kind and friendly. The food was amazing. We had such a great evening at this neighborhood gem. Quiet place, but still has so much life. Obvious that the owner loves hospitality.
Family business. Kids doing homework at the bar set the tone and left you feeling like you were part of the family. Quaint and quiet with great food. What a find- would highly recommend it for a nice relaxed meal
I have dined here many times before and never been disappointed. If you like hearty
European food both Eastern and Western this is the place. They have a wonderful selection of imported beers and a good wine list. The owner is always gracious and welcoming.
The one thing I hope he puts back on the Menu is Beet Salad.
This is my favorite place.
We have been wanting to try this place for s long time as I love Central European food (Czech, Polish, Herman, Hungarian). We went as s family to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant was very accommodating to our needs (infant and elderly) and gave us a spacious table in the back room. We had ordered three appetizers (pierogis, crepe and a daily special). They were tasty overall but nothing to brag about. We ordered the famous goulash, schnitzel, cabbage roll and salmon. Our favorite was the cabbage roll. We noticed all the food (appetizers and main courses) all came out warm, not hot. That was extremely disappointing. We finished our m al with a blintz. Again good but nothing to brag about. Overall food was ok but not worth driving 15 miles for. The service was good.
Very nice restaurant. Has eastern European food and great beer. Food was good although the waiter gave us the wrong dish it was okay because we wanted to try that dish too.
What can I tell you.....if you are into Beef Stroganoff or goulash, schnitzels...this is the most authentic Eastern European place in town!! Love the food at last once a month!!
European Cafe Experience in SF. Reminds me of local dinning spots I enjoyed while traveling in
Germany, northern Italy, Austria.
Food was as it should be and the owner was accommodating , warm , charming and interesting.
My aunt loves polish food, so on our San Francisco trip we searched for the best before we went. We found this place, which was not easy to get to via public transportation, but totally worth the Uber drive. Pieroges were amazing, loved the cabbage rolls and schnitzel. Authentic polish food. Only problem is we were on vacation, would bring this restaurant home if we could!
Diners at our table selected a variety of dishes and every single one was delightful. We selected Cafe Europa as part of our exploration of restaurants beyond our own options in the Mission. We will certainly be back!
The pierogi were served only 6 to an order so while they were tasty they were not a great value. The Hungarian goulash also was tasty but again somewhat small in size. Next time I will stick with the schnitzel.
Very authentic Eastern European food, prepared deliciously in a cute and cozy atmosphere. A lot of fun trying new items and old favorites.
Loved the pierogies, and goulash was amazing!!
Very good food. Very good service. Very good pricing.
Cafe Europa is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. I go there at least once a month. The owner is very nice and and checks on each table. The menu is simple, consists of the best Eastern Europe + Germany has to offer. The food is delicious. Every time I go there they have a different special. I recommend the cucumber soup and pork schnitzel. The portions are large.
Massive fans of schnitzel since our time living in Toronto. We never really found it here and when we were in Germany recently we decided to search for a German place. Fantastic schnitzel and food. Small little place in middle of residential area. We loved the food and will definitely return.
Went there for a birthday dinner hoping for home made Eastern European cuisine. Could not be more disappointed. Food tasted frozen and warmed up. No flavor. I will not be returning.
Have gone to Cafe Europa several times now. Love the Eastern European Food and the beer and wine. The owner greets us nicely; the only drawback they did not serve coffee which we love with desserts.
Great Eastern European food. Very well done and Tasty. Serving sizes are generous.
We had a great table in the bay window at the back of the restaurant and it felt like we were in our own dining room but with great food and service! Love that someone else prepared my delicious meal and we got to catch up with our friends. Yay!
It's a small place, tables on one side, bar on the other. Comfortable. Not busy at the time we went.
Definitely a place we will soon return - everything was quite tasty, authentic and perfect, and the service was friendly and unobtrusive. We are still talking about how much we enjoyed the dinner.
Delicious Eastern European food in a casual charming setting. Can't wait to go back!
A quiet neighborhood (though not my neighborhood) place for a nice meal. We appreciated the friendly service (and conversation with Alex, the owner), delicious food, and relaxed vibe. The cabbage rolls and pork schnitzel were both delicious, and we also enjoyed the mushroom crepes and beef perogies. A nice selection of beers on tap, which paired well with the food.
Authentic enough to satisfy our German/Slavic/Polish food cravings!
I m so glad Cafe Europa is in my neighborhood! I made a reservation for a Friday night, but we could have walked in. Everything on the menu is impressively good, and the server even knew which wine I was trying to remember from a few months before.
The service, food, and beer were all fantastic. It tended a little toward pricey, and I really didn't love the cool color temperature of the overhead lighting, but those are my only nitpicks. We'll be back for sure.
I have never had such a mixed opinion of a restaurant since I started using Open Table about 2 years ago. First, the food WAS VERY GOOD! To me, Schnitzel is comfort food. When I saw their menu, I knew I had to try Cafe Europa. I had the pork version; the portion was huge and perfectly cooked. Garlic potatoes were also very good and the kraut decent. My first problem arose when I was handed the menu. As others have pointed out, the PRICES are at least $7.00 higher than what is shown on the menu on the open Table web site, even though the on-line menu says "Updated Oct 6, 2016." I found this a bit hard to swallow. Second, after my server brought my dinner, he never came back to see how my food was, and only appeared to remove my plate when I was done. It's a small place, and he just disappeared. Finally, the decor and ambiance leaved a lot to be desired. I'm not sure I will return. What a disappointment.
I'm so happy to have discovered Cafe Europa. The borscht and the gravlax were stupendous and I will be back to have those for lunch. The entree portions are huge (we had the stuffed cabbage) and enough for 2. The best way to eat is to order a bunch of appetizers and try a little of everything.
Great European comfort food. Yummy and large portions. Will be back.
It's a family get together. We really enjoy the European dishes: German, Hungarian, and Russian? The mushroom soup is very tasty and creamy. We like the pork sausage as appetizer. The Potato Dumplings With Mushroom Sauce was enjoy by all. The Pork Schnitzel is the biggest portion I've ever seen and so good that I ate it all. When the waiter find out that I like the mushroom sauce, he gave me some for the Schnitzel even though it's not on the menu. There are also many beers from the usual good beer region like Germany, Austria, Czech and Belgium, but also from lesser known, well lesser known to me anyway like Poland, Russia, Lithuania, and Solvak. The staffs are very good and helpful, though, some may be being trained.
