My sisters and I came to Cafe Europa and had the time of our lives and felt completely spoiled. Bruce and his staff excel in the art of entertaining. The service, ambiance, staff and food far exceeded our expectations. We would highly recommend coming here and enjoying this fabulous restaurant. And don’t forget to tip the pianist, he is wonderful!
I am not sure why this review is important....I made a reservation for this restaurant and when I got there they said they do not take resos and I showed them your site and they said they have nothing to do with Open Table. We did have to wait a bit...the food and the service were great. Mario the waiter was informative and attentive.
Great waiter and good dinner!
Can't tell you of my experience, they decided to close early even though I made reservations. I was very disappointed
The "cook" for the night was OFF,meaning food barely warm and when returned the chicken was bloody. Manager forgave all of the Food ,we paid for drinks and generously tipped the chagrined waiter as not his fault. Learned "cook" was leaving in 2 weeks. Hope he finds his HAPPY place .
Cafe Europa is the ideal neighborhood restaurant. Charming and comfortable. Big portions of delicious comfort food at reasonable prices. Fun but not too noisy. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we entered. Alex, the owner, takes care of his guests in the most personable way. When we takes friends here, they always thank us for the "discovery" of a new and special restaurant.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The staff was very attentive and helpful in navigating an unfamiliar cuisine. It's very small and very cute. I has the house special - lamb shanks - which was delicious. And the perogies were on point as well.
Great food, many options. Beer and wine only. Reasonably priced
Cabbage rolls were awesome!
No table reserved. Tried to seat us at the bar like that was acceptable? Then, stuck us at a table to share with strangers...on Valentine's day.
Excellent food; although full, it was relatively quiet... we could actually converse without shouting; very welcoming; attentive service.
First and foremost. Thank you for providing to us the best service, delicious food, friendly atmosphere and for making my birthday personal and special. It’s hard to find a great place where you can seat down with family and enjoy company vs hearing noise and not able to enjoy company.
Your restaurant is the best and I am sure it will grow and expand.
Thank you again
The beef stroganoff is fabulous! They provide a small menu, very well-done. Great little neighborhood eatery.
I love the food and the owner. We are becoming regulars
The food was amazing!!!! Felt very home made and authentic. Service was great. Alex was super friendly and welcoming. I will definitely recommend to my friends and I will definitely go again.
We tried Cafe Europa for dinner and were blown away by the great food, the friendly atmosphere and a truly welcoming owner. Wine and beer are available and we enjoyed a nice prosecco to start and then enjoyed a bottle our friend brought with dinner. We were impressed that there was a family with 2 young kids enjoying dinner, and later there were lots of people around the bar and at the tables (it's a small place so it can fill up easily) - everyone seemed like part of a Cafe Europa community - even "newbies" like us (we were made to feel welcome). We enjoyed everything: borscht (had more of a tomatoey cabbagey taste, which I liked a lot); mushroom crepes; pirogues (small, tasty with a nice sauce plus tangy sour cream); a refreshing cucumber salad with lots of fresh dill; the BEST dark bread (dense and so tasty); two kinds of schnitzel (pork and chicken) - each a large portion with vegetables; wonderfully tasty goulash (a little kick in the paprikash sauce which was fabulous) with tender beef and perfect round dumplings that were so great with the sauce; and finally, for dessert, cherry pierogies to share. Yes , we ordered a lot, but we are so glad we did. We also sampled an interesting kambucha with fermented rye, I believe. Let's support this wonderful spot in the inner Richmond!
Great food. Decor could be improved but a winner for good German/Polish etc food.
- Pierogi w/ Cabbage & Mushrooms to start
- Chicken Schnitzel & Cabbage Rolls w/ Mushroom for dinner
Sooo good. Authentic. Reminds me of dinners we used to have growing up.
Server & owner were super friendly and attentive, but not overly bothersome. Will definitely go again as I'm already craving it again :)
We always enjoy our meals at Cafe Europa but were surprised on this visit that several of the most popular menu items (cabbage rolls, borsch, draft beers) were not available. The pelmeni and mushroom soup were delicious.
If you still miss Old Krakow (prior West Portal Polish restaurant, now closed), you will be happy at Café Europa.
Food was just okay. Pierogis were disappointing. Small and bland. Definitely not worth the price. Entrees were pretty good. Did not try desserts.
Waiter/host was one of worse ever encountered. He obviously didn’t want to be there and doesn’t like his job. Didn’t write down our orders so, of course, he forgot our side dish of spaetzel. He was nowhere to be found during our meal so we couldn’t remind him. When he came back to clear our dishes we told him he forgot our order, his only response was “I guess I did.” No apologies. No question asking if we still wanted it.
Sadly, won’t be back. Within walking distance of my home (I support small businesses) and entrees were good. But I didn’t like the treatment.
When we arrived we were left standing at the entrance for almost 10min. When the host finally showed up he declared literally: "The kitchen is dead". He continued that they are overwhelmed with the number of customers (the place was half empty), that we could wait if we decided to do so, but that it would take 1 hr for the food. "Your choice." All of this in a rude and annoyed manner. This despite us having had a reservation, and having called in earlier to confirm. Needless to say, we left. Very unfriendly host, bad experience. They don't want to be in the Restaurant business, and we won't go there again.
This is an example of a truly world class venue showcasing a little known cuisine. The service is as impeccible as the food is extraordinarily good.
Cafe Europa was closed for the day of my reservation
Without any notice
I had to people invited and it did look good when we came only to find out that the place is closed for renovation
Didn't go. Called them a few times for some additional info, but the phone was never answered. Not a good sign for a restaurant that is supposed to be open. They may be closed for renovation or vacation, but OT should know that before booking reservations. Sorry for the misleading ratings, but I had to do that to get this comment posted.
This is not a review of Cafe Europa. It is a review of the Open table App reservation process.
We arrived on time for our reservation and found the Restaurant closed for repairs. From the hand written note on the door, It had been closed for a time before our reservation.
It is obvious that Open table had no notion that the Restaurant was closed. Either the restaurant didn't inform you or your system did not adjust to the closure.
In any case, you need to strengthen the communication with your participating Restaurants on this issue to avoid sending people to closed restaurants for dinner.
Booked a reservation on opentable and arrived to find the restaurant closed for renovations.
Great food, great service, I love coming here. Great neighborhood spot. The cabbage rolls and goulash were awesome!
Cafe Europa is a bit of a throw back, a place you might expect to find in Budapest. Our food was delicious. We ordered family style and shared plates to make a several course dinner. Favorites were the herring, pierogi and goulash. The ambiance is quaint and authentic. Great selection of Eastern European beers.
Alex did an outstanding job! Food is always delicious!
A quaint sedate restaurant. However, I found the food to be bland.
The Veal Schnitzel was fabulous. The soups were all excellent. The beer in a boot was great!
I like cafe Europa. They serve excellent food in decent price.
Good Italian food
We love this place! We ha e been coming here with friends for over a year and it’s one of the best restaurants for a down-home Polish meal in great surroundings. The staff are wonderful and the menu is great.
For such a highly rated restaurant, place was empty when we rolled in at 630. Food was good, not great. No ambiance whatsoever, server spent more time playing on his phone then he did ‘serving’. Prices were low to moderate. Claimed to have many vegetarian options, which was true if you only wanted to eat appetizers-no vegetarian entree’s.
I have been to Cafe Europa many times and it is always consistent.
I am so happy they have put Beet Salad back on the menu.
I usually have Cabbage Rolls. They used to serve two and now they only serve one on a plate with mashed potatoes. I found that two Cabbage Rolls were too much for me and serving one (for lesser price) is just perfect.
I highly recommend Cafe Europa for German and Polish Food.
Great all around. Owner stopped by several times to make sure we were Ok
Great food and authentic ambiance. The owner is so kind and friendly. The food was amazing. We had such a great evening at this neighborhood gem. Quiet place, but still has so much life. Obvious that the owner loves hospitality.
Family business. Kids doing homework at the bar set the tone and left you feeling like you were part of the family. Quaint and quiet with great food. What a find- would highly recommend it for a nice relaxed meal
I have dined here many times before and never been disappointed. If you like hearty
European food both Eastern and Western this is the place. They have a wonderful selection of imported beers and a good wine list. The owner is always gracious and welcoming.
The one thing I hope he puts back on the Menu is Beet Salad.
This is my favorite place.
