Cafe Español Ratings and Reviews
Ughh. The paella Valenciana was tasteless and WATERY. The dish consisted of chicken that was merely chunks of dry skinless breast, undercooked scallops and over cooked previously frozen shrimp. There was no taste of saffron nor any evidence of the traditional socarrat crust. Service was slow and the decor is in need of an overhaul. Bathrooms are ancient. I would not return nor recommend this restaurant.
For those of us on restricted diets, a wide range of tapas, specializing in seafood, was the perfect choice. Our party of three ordered five tapas plates. We all left satisfied with both quantity and quality of the food. The seafood was well seasoned with excellent sauces. The grilled calamari was a little on the chewy side, but that was to be expected. We'd definitely go back to sample more of the menu.
I had a great dinner with friends. Paella, fish, stuffed fish, and lobster were all excellent. We started with Spanish ham, cheese and sausage, filet mignon tips and octopus. All excellent. The staff is very attentive and a guitar player came by and we all sang a few songs. A great time.
A nice Spanish menu restaurant. Very nice outdoor patio seating area in the back. Not crowded, lots of open space even on a Friday evening. Service was prompt and cordial, cocktails were good, food was served promptly and was tasty. Everything was "good" but nothing was "great."
We were seeing a show and went for dinner not knowing they have a Lobster special on Mondays. My husband ordered the 2 lb. lobster and I had the 1 1/2lb. lobster. They were the best lobsters we have had in years including our visits to Maine. If you like lobster it is worth a trip to Cafe Espanol. We have been here many times in the last twenty-five years and have always had a great meal. The Spanish potatoes are unbelievable. The wait staff is always great.
Beautiful ,Spanish restaurant with fine service in the village area.
Menu offers delicious choices--(including basic grilled fish and vegetables)
My family loves this restaurant ,and I am never
The steamed Lobster was absolutely sumptuous .
Others in our group loved the traditional Spanish meals.
Don't miss the sangria!
I would not recommend Café Español. There are many great Spanish restaurants around Greenwich and the West Village - but Café Español is not one of them. The place is stuck in the 1970s. The food is mediocre at best - carelessly prepared standard tapas dishes. The service is also very poor. There seem to be hundreds of waiters at this restaurant but things take a long time to arrive, and very often the orders are mixed up. On top of that, one waiter kept on trying to take away our plates and food before we had finished with them - over and over again.
Traditional Spanish food, seemingly large but not very inspiring list of tapas, good selection of paella, sufficient and reasonably priced wine list. We had paella marinera for 2, and it was good and generous but a little heavy and a bit over fried.
A convenient place to stop for a simple dinner, but not for a special occasion.
Not as good as I remember. Waiter could not tell anything about the menu, tapas were good (octopus). Paella - very generic and blend, lobster tails - very chewy, dessert -store bought.
Sangria, however, was excellent. Smallish noisy place to be expected. However, food definitely was better prepared before. Shame!
Good value for your money; great food, good and friendly service.
One observation though: It was very cold in the restaurant, I had to stay with my coat on. Outside was 27 degrees and there was a slight air conditioning blowing inside. Obviously the heat was not working.
I would not come to this restaurant during the winter season again.
However, I would come back in the Summer for their outdoor garden.
I went to dinner on 2 Jan.
There was some misunderstanding between this restaurant and us .
I made a reservation 17:30, the restaurant was mistaken about 7:30 PM.
But a stuff ushered us to a table friendly.
Then a stuff was polite , he recommended varied menu.
Lobster (steamed),Squid ink ,saffron rice were delicious and the price was nice .
We had an enjoyable dinner, thank you!!
