This is a more cautious review that I would previously have made. The food was excellent. The service was mediocre. The neighborhood location is appealing vs going into the city, a definite plus. The small size and a restaurant representing local owners vs franchise also both are very favorable.
What a pleasant surprise with excellent food and outstanding service. We have driven past this place many times but never thought to stop. Unique menu and prices moderate enough to fit any budget. The best guacamole in town. A great place to enjoy good wine and have a conversation with friends, as long as no one have any significant hearing difficulties. Can't wait to go back.
Servers were not delivering quality service, seemed to be in training
We enjoyed the appetizer (empanadas), Sangria. The dinner entrees were spot on. It was our friends' first visit.
The food and service at Cafe Ena are consistently excellent. I'd really appreciate it if the music were less loud, though. This most recent time we sat outside because the music was so loud inside--but of course there was loud street and airplane noise outside... Anyway, the food and service are excellent.
We had a very good time at Cafe Ena - we hadn't been in a while and decided we wanted to go again. We loved the Ceviche to start, and the Halibut, Sea Bass and lamb were all wonderful! We ended with the Key Lime pie - which was a delicious end to the meal. Another wonderful meal to want us to come again.
Excellent meal as always...great fish choices and everything is fresh and so nicely presented. This is one of our go to restaurants.
Fresh food, cozy restaurant, friendly service. We were very pleased.
Great food! Just be sure to look over the bill as our bill was $80 higher than it was supposed to be (extra drinks and food). It took a couple looks, but in the end the server got it right.
Usually very good, but fell short on the entrees. Wife’s Marinera not as flavorful as it looked. I had Bife Chorizo. Not bad, but again, short of expectations, particularly at $28. Meat was nothing special. Apps were as good as always: calamari and guacamole. Wife said Sangria was dull. Waitress was new, and apps took a while to get to our table. Also, no branding for Dine Out for Life.
Consistently great food every time I go. I love to sit outside but always feels cozy inside and always feel well cared for.
Our Easter brunch was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and we ate outside which is a bonus. It is one of our favorite spots in the Twin Cities. Always dependable..
Fun place to eat and the food is always Great as is the service!!!
We loved the guacamole and chips to start. We enjoyed our lunch together!
The food was very fresh and delicious. Service was great too!
First impressions were a warm, inviting ambience and terrific waitstaff. For our first time at Cafe Ena, we chose the specials, a scallop dish placed over a bed of puréed cauliflower, and salmon over risotto and shiitake mushrooms. Delicious. The kitchen was on their game that Friday night: We were 10 minutes into our out-of-this-world guacamole and first glass of wine when our entrees arrived. Quick, quick. I’m not complaining—I’d rather they be brought a little early than late. And did I say the service was impeccable? Yes it was! We’re going back to try lunch sometime soon.
Except for the price, this is a fabulous place. It was the perfect setting for a special birthday dinner for my friend. I would like to see more reasonable prices however. My bill for 2 of us with a tip was $165.00
We enjoyed our meal at Cafe Ena. We had the Bife de Chorizo which was quite good and the vegetables served with it with very tasty. The restaurant was cozy and friendly feeling.
By far the best ceviche we have ever had! The two of us shared two entrees. The vegetable risotto was outstanding and the avocado crusted scallop special was incredible. Tons of layered flavors and textures - can't wait to return and try some more.
The food is always amazing. Great service. The tables are too tightly packed together.
As usual, Cher Ruiz is the best! Awesome food and service.
This is a neighborhood gem!
the food is creative, fresh and never disappoints. Service if friendly and helpful. We have always had outstanding food at Ena, one of the Hidden Gems in Mpls. the Shrimp on corn cakes (app) is my favorite, and the calamari (coated in cornmeal) is soft and tender.
Wonderful as usual!!
Great food, well prepared, innovative, small portions.
Would come back
Exceptional service. Knowledgable servers who provide the right amount of attention.
the guacamole is to die for here!
Too notch! Exceptional food. Their lamb was perfect and plated with several vegetables, which I appreciated. The beet salad and churros were also something to write home about. The wait staff was a breath of fresh air. Very competent and fun! Kudos to all.
The food at Cafe Ena just gets better and better! Wonderful!
Interesting tasty menu but service was average and food was as well. The beef tenderloin and accompaniment were salty. The guacamole was tasty but the stringy onions did not add to the appearance
service was terrible
only had one waiter and it took forever to get check
Exceptional food, excellent staff and peaceful atmosphere.
Phenomenal food. Both the sea bass and scallops were exceptional.
A very nice small menu with excellent seafood choices...healthy cuisine with a flair. We had the Halibut and is was so good. Been coming here for years and I think it is actually getting better.
Café Ena is a wondeful place for lunch or dinner. The menu is distinctively Latin and very creative. The intimate small room creates a very nice atmosphere. Its one of the best in the Twin Cities.
I love this place. We know no matter what we order we will have a great meal!
Great food and great service. Menu has many wonderful choices.
I am so sad to write this bad review....We have been going to Cafe Ena for years and have loved the consistency of the flavors and experience and it was one of our favorite restaurants. We went for a special birthday dinner last night and our guacamole was WAY too salty. We ordered the lubina/sea bass and mine wasn't cooked all the way through and was gelatinous(!), so I had to send it back to the kitchen. Both of our dishes were EXTREMELY salty, to the point of being pretty much inedible. We mentioned it to our server who was very helpful and she told us that they had just hired a new executive chef and this was his first week. The restaurant removed the charge for one of the plates from our bill. Cafe Ena had better get back their mojo and soon, or they will lose their longtime customers. I mentioned to the server that if this had been our first time eating there, we would never go back.
What a wonderful little restaurant! I was looking for someplace special to take my someone special, and my good friend who lives in the Kingfield neighborhood recommended this place. We could not have been more satisfied. I had the Lubina (the truffle-pea sauce was magnificent!) and my girlfriend had the Conchas (she was kind enough to share a little). The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and we were well-attended to by the waitstaff.
I can't wait to try another entree!
