Cafe Ena Ratings and Reviews
Our first time at Cafe Ena and it was amazing. The food was fantastic and the service perfectly attentive and very helpful with the menu. The guacamole is the best we've ever had. Beautiful presentation and all fresh ingredients, with no mushy avocados or additives to stretch. I had the salmon and it was prepared to perfection. Moist without being under or over cooked. My husband ordered the wild mushroom quesadillas and said they were excellent and no he would not share....We are planning to return and will bring family and friends. B
We had a 7pm reservation on Valentine's day. Not thrilled to arrive to find 20 or more others waiting for their reserved tables to open up. We were told it would be a 30-minute wait which was inconvenient and uncomfortable in the very overcrowded small waiting area but we were okay with that. After 45 minutes we asked about our table and were told they hadn't checked us in when we arrived so people who had come in after us were seated well before us. Got a table almost an hour after arriving. All of this would have been okay but the food was far below what we have come to expect from Cafe Ena. Dry fish, unappealing and bland risotto. Overall a very disappointing evening. As we left there were as many people waiting as there had been when we arrived. Obviously they booked at least twice the capacity they could manage! We will return one day I'm sure but never on a special occasion.
Came for Valentine's Day celebration. The house was full which prompted a wait for a table even with a reservation but staff was friendly and helpful and we were seated after about 30 minutes. We enjoyed the rack of lamb and sea bass with a good Tempranillo. Service was personable and prompt given the busy room and the meals were great. We have always enjoyed our visits here.
We were prepared to wait since we’d heard that was expected. Even with a 7:15 rez we weren’t seated till 7:50. Left standing coats on, at least we had a glass of wine.
Our seafood entrees were disappointing. Scallops simple and very little to support them. My sea bass was dry and I wasn’t able to finish. Flavors were good, maybe it was an off night.
Food was fantastic. Had to wait 35 minutes past our reservation time to be seated, then 8 more minutes for our server to greet us. Yes, it was Valentines Day, but seriously, get your sh*+ together and run a restaurant properly. To be fair, they were offering free glasses of wine to the people who were waiting past their reservation time. Good food though, but that is about it.
We had Valentine’s dinner reservations at 5:45. We arrived late at 6:10. They were running 30 minutes behind. The waiting space was very crammed but people were being patient and they served everyone free wine while they waited. Our dinner was excellent. Ceviche is to die for.
While our group of four had the grouper, halibut and salmon, the common complaint was that each of our entrees were luke warm at best. We expect the food to be hot when served. Service was good, but the delivery of desserts was disjointed, with one receiving first and a break before the remaining three were served.
Cafe Ena was wonderful. The service was great and the food was super yummy. We had the guac appetizer, which is their most popular app and it did not disappoint. We both got fish (he got halibut special and I had sea bass). Both were amazing, but we agreed that we liked my sea bass better only because the sauce was so delicious. We will be back for sure!
This is one of our favorite restaurants because the food is always good, the service is always friendly, there is never a high noise level (very important to me). For some reason there is never a wait for a brunch (after noon, anyway) on Sundays, so it is a place we count on for a last-minute brunch with friends after church.
Café Ena is a charming little restaurant in the Kingfield neighborhood of South Minneapolis. They have many unique food options, including seafood, lamb, chicken and beef, all with a Latin American fusion flare. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who is adventurous and like to try new flavors. Great Ambience!
Normally we have a great experience at Cafe Ena. This was not the case this time. With reservations we waited almost on hour to be seated. Service we received once we were seated was very good though for the most part, with a few exceptions. Food was not up to its usual wonderful tastes. Fish was overcooked with a few of the entrees at our table and the other two entrees were drowning in sauce, totally overwhelming the normally yummy sea bass. The server asked us about having dessert even as my husband was still eating his main course. We were disappointed as it was very obvious (the hostess even told us!) that the restaurant terribly overbooked, to the point of putting a damper on our evening. We expect more at this typically yummy neighborhood spot. Hopefully just a night off its usual!
Great cozy neighborhood spot....tasty food, pleasant servers, BUT, overbooked and waited 45 min for table that had reserved with open table many days ahead of time! Nice that offered wine/ beer during wait, but such a lengthy wait is unacceptable! In spite of wait, will give it another chance b/c food is great and service lovely!
Following a great recommendation from a friend, I reserved a table at Cafe Ena for Saturday, January 20th at 7:00pm. My husband and I asked another couple to join us, as we were excited to check out a new restaurant. When we arrived at 7:00pm, there was a line of people from the host stand to the door. The hostess, who was quite unapologetic, stated that they were running behind on reservations and there would be a wait. When I inquired as to how long the wait would be, the hostess said she did not know. She could not even give me a "ballpark estimate," when I probed further. At 7:15pm, the hostess sat a group of 11 people in the restaurant, with a 7:30pm reservation. Fast forward to 8:00pm and they finally have everyone from their party seated. This was very frustrating, as we stood around, while watching others with later reservations getting seated -- without their party completely present. I digress. Around 7:40pm, a gentleman apologized for the wait (the first apology of the night!) and provided the waiting crowd with short pours of a less than stellar red wine, but the thought was appreciated. By this time, we were all very frustrated. We decided to make the most of the night and hope for the best with the cuisine. The guacamole and ceviche appetizers were good. No one truly enjoyed their entrees however. The three guests, including myself, all had dry fish dishes. Our other guest had under-seared scallops. Unfortunately, we will not be back.
Very cute restaurant I was very excited to get reservations for this place because of the cuisine they offered . Got there 15 mins before our reservation and it was packed. They seated us 10 mins later in I kid you not the table right next to the door. I honestly was very disappointed I was so excited to get the feel of the whole atmosphere. We ordered and the food was average nothing very memorable for the expensive price except the dessert. Their chocolate mouse cake made me want to lick the plate it was incredible!! Over all I will go back to give it another chase but we’ll see.
Fantastic food. Very flavorful. Limited items on the menu all executed with perfection. My new favorite restaurant. Service was outstanding. It was my wife's surprise birthday party and they made us feel special and well attended to. Waiter was outstanding. He even cleared the table so that our family picture would be as perfect as the meal.
