I booked this restaurant for my son's college graduation celebration well in advance. I then called the restaurant to make sure that they would have meals for everyone in my party. I have a son on the Autism spectrum who has very limited palette. My dad would be with us and also eats a limited diet. When I spoke with the person who answered the phone I explained all of this and was assured that the items (chicken nuggets/tenders, cheeseburger, french fries) we needed would be available. NOTHING was said about a special graduation event menu. That was not the case, however. We arrived to find that the regular menu was not available and no accommodations would be made. Plus the special menu was much more expensive than the regular menu. We were told that there were no options, they didn't have the ingredients in the kitchen. It pretty much ruined our celebration. We did eat at the restaurant but only because at that point we couldn't get in any where else on such a weekend. I was very upset, disappointed, furious. Had I been told when I made the reservations through OpenTable, or even when I called and spoke to the restaurant, that there would be a special event menu and that the dishes we needed would not be available, I would have made other arrangements. I felt very deceived. I probably will not go back to this restaurant at any time much less a special occasion!
Good food; nice ambience. It was quiet when we were there, but then again we were dining at 4:30pm (we felt fortunate to get a same-day reservation during A&M Parents Weekend). We would definitely go here again.
We went for brunch for my birthday, the service was amazing, our waitress was so sweet and informative, the menu was extensive and everything sounded delicious and was even better when we actually ordered and ate! The constantly changing menu provides new and innovative dining experience. You'll want to keep going back so you don't miss out!
Service was a bit under standard and food was average.... Very difficult to get something for vegans, server did not seem to understand I wanted a salad with all the vegetables...
When I go out to eat, I'm looking for great food that is worth savoring. Cafe Eccell definitely satisfies here.
My husband and I joined our friends here for brunch on Valentine's day. Boy was it a treat! We had never been here before and figured it was a great day to try it out. It did not disappoint! The service is fast and efficient, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is amazing! Great quality and thoughtfully put together. We savored every bite. This will become a regular place for us now. Just love it!
A great place to enjoy a group visit and many choices for all palates. Our server, Jacob, was very helpful with menu choices and beer/wine selections. It was perfect for our luncheon.
Lots of seafood selections top the menu. Great preparations.
Terrance was a great server in spite of being swamped with tables.
I would recommend their food to anyone in College Station who are interested in the pizza and dessert. Their pizza is so delicious, and the best is the classic one. And, their tart desserts are beautiful and yummy. But, our waiter is not as professional as others. He seldom came to check on us for the refill the drink or did not even ask us about the food. Maybe because we sat in the corner, so he usually forgot us? Anyway, food is good, but next time I hope to have another one to serve us.
Reliably good food and flexible atmosphere lets it go from a casual dinner to great for a group event to a romantic dinner.
Interesting menu and good service, but my food (lamb gyro) was tasteless and visually uninteresting. On-line menu was different than one in restaurant.
First visit after moving to the area. Not a fancy place. Casual feel with lots of light at dinner. Corn and crab bisque was wonderful. Ordered the Voodoo Salmon and it was so good, I can't explain it. We can see why it's a favorite. Shared the strawberry tarte and it was perfect for 2 and also very tasty. Our server was Lotta and he was attentive, professional and offered lots of help. We will be back.
I wish the entire menu had been available, instead of selected dishes for graduation.
The service is professional and attentive, without being intrusive. Our server Josh made good wine recommendations and kept the food well-paced throughout the evening. The menu is not overly ambitious, yet manages to provide some interesting choices (tuna, lamb), particularly given that the town is rather conservative. Café Eccell is more Coconut Grove than College Station! Where the restaurant shines is in the food preparation and plating. Our group shared appetizers and desserts, all delicious, colorful and bite-sized. An image of one of the pie samples is now the wallpaper on my cell phone. That good! It was a farewell party, and a good memory to leave on.
Went on Thanksgiving great experience! Also went for brunch and it is so well worth it.
All the traditional dishes without overindulging! Food was delicious and no dishes to wash.
Celebrated Thanksgiving dinner there and classes turkey, dressing
etc were great. No wait to be seated and food came in a very
reasonable time. Restaurant was quiet. Waiter was excellent
A very pleasant dining experience on a very busy day.
We had eight guests from out of town, and as usual we take them to Café Eccel. They were very impressed and want to return when they come back to visit. Thanks for making this a wonderful experience. I always tell everyone that the salmon is the best ever and my guest that had it agreed. Also the steaks are the best. It's all good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the past two years I have been taking my Grandson (attending Texas A&M) out at least one a month to a nice sit down dinner. This restaurant is NUMBER 1. My grandson also agreed to this statement. We had:
Appetizers we had-PANKO CRUSTED JUMBO LUMP CRAB CAKES and PACIFIC AHI TUNA NACHOS
Entree we had-MEDITERRANEAN SNAPPER and “TOMAHAWK” PORK CHOP
Dessert we both had the Pumpkin Bread Pudding
We are going to return to this location next month.
Also, the service was great and restaurant was very well laid out so we could talk and hear one another.
This is a MUST visit if you are in town!!!
Food is decent with wide variety- but they simply had horrible systems and not enough wait staff to serve customers. Had reservations- which they totally ignored. Had to wait anyway. Just horrible service! Wait staff totally overwhelmed- hire more people, for pete's sake!
We had a wonderful lunch with our friends at Cafe Excel. We had an appetizer and 3 entrees and all were delicious. Cafe Excel's strawberry tarts are the perfect ending to a delicious meal.
Great food - love the pizzas. Queso dip was excellent!
Kim is an excellent waitress! Steaks were excellent as were the crab cakes, wine, & dessert!
We had a party of 7 on a game weekend Friday night. We had a reservation for 9:00. They were very busy with a special event also. We were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation time. The waiter was well-informed and attentive. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent.
Excellent food. We all had something to eat that we enjoyed and plenty of it.
All of their dishes have a twist and it's all fresh.
Last time we sat on the patio and it was so much quieter. Overall is was fine. A nice evening with a lovely waiter. Lynn Stegall and John E. McKemie
I love, love Cafe Eccell. It's the perfect place for a casual lunch or dressed up date night with someone special. And I appreciate the fact that I can get gourmet food at a reasonable price that is healthy. Thank you!!
We are veterans of Cafe Eccell for many years-so when they moved to a former Luby's Cafeteria we weren't sure what to expect in terms of ambience. Their original location, the old College Station City Hall was very cool. We are pleased to report the new digs are great! Spacious dark concrete floors, interesting paintings on the wall, a fantastic big bar--lots of light in the outer room, and--best of all a menu better than ever. We shared a Quatro Fromaggio pizza and a Sauted Pear salad. Both were delicious. The Pinot Grigo we chose was delightful. The menu is really innovative, and I swear next time I come I will venture out for something else. Lots of interesting healthy but delicious-sounding combo plates as well as great sandwiches, clay-oven pizzas that are terrific, as well as luscious entrees.
Overall a good restaurant with a good menu. Some menu items, including pizza are very nice. Service is usually good, but at times they are not as attentive.
Food was good & the atmosphere was casual.
Very informal place but well done.
Can't go wrong with the seafood or pizza
My husband and i used to dine at Cafe Eccell when we were dating in college. Now they are in a new and bigger location, but the food is just as memorable. It was fun introducing our children to this restaurant. The quality of the food was great and the prices were moderate - the children's menu was very affordable!
Visited because of the hype from a few friends. I was not impressed with the food nor service...however, the strawberry tart lived up to the hype...but not quite "world famous."
My family of 14 had a great brunch!! Fabulous food. Great service. At first I thought a little pricey? Large portion's several split our waitress split the meal in the kitchen. Will return again!!
Food is really good. Service was outstanding! Regular dishes that are created differently but not over the top.
This restaurant was one of my favorite in B/CS when it was in the old location. This was my first time back since relocating to Texas Avenue. Liked the layout of the place, an old Lubys location. Waiter was very slow and not attentive. Had to ask twice to get my glass of wine. We had the Napa plate appetizer and it was OK. My Voodoo Salmon was a bit of a downer though. In the past it was superb. Drowned in sauce it was passable at best. Oh well, will give her one more shot the next time I slide through town.
We have made Cafe Eccel our go to spot in College Station/Bryan. The service is always excellent and we have tried multiple things on the menu. Each has been delicious. We try to always have reservations as it is a popular place. Dessert is always a treat with the strawberry tarte!
The front desk person at our hotel suggested this restaurant, rather than a chain facility. The food was adequate, but nothing special. Tables were uncovered, TV monitors all over the place, It was more of a sports bar than a restaurant.
We celebrated our son's graduation from college here. The menu was limited because of the crowds expected on graduation weekend, but there were fabulous selections to choose from. We can't wait to return at a non-crazy time to try out some of the other menu items. Food was delicious, our reservations were honored on time, staff was good. What's not to love?
