Best chef in Birmingham, they use local fresh ingredients and always have seasonal menu items. Some New Orleans, French & american influenced southern food but never too heavy. House made desserts are always amazing!
The couple seated next to us had both their phones on speaker for much of the meal which greatly detracted from the quality of the experience. They were far too loud with both speakers going.
It might be good for the restaurant to put a note on the menu to refrain from this conduct.
I am a total fan of Dupont and eat there regularly but this was awful and the couple continued in complete disregard of everyone around. Thanks.
Our second visit and even better than the first. The fried oysters and okra in a creme fraiche / something sauce was wonderful.... could have had that alone and been thrilled! Our server knew exactly what we wanted for wines. We just told her what we liked and what we were eating and she came back with a perfect pairing for both of us. Our dinners were the braised short ribs with root vegetables and I had the scallops over some kind of green combination and a fabulous sauce. The server suggested white chocolate bread putting with a ginger ice cream that was outstanding. I measure restaurants as to whether or not the meal is memorable and would I want to do it again .....and this restaurant and their food and their service more than surpass that criteria. Thanks Cafe DePont!
Took some out-of-town business associates to dinner and they really enjoyed it. They are from Philadelphia and liked all the Southern touches - the cheese plate, fried okra and oyster starter, and the seafood entrees especially. It was a great way to finish the visit-and of course, the beignets were a huge hit as well as a couple of the other desserts. One of my favorite restaurants since the restaurant started in Springville, AL.
Service was first class and the menu was impressive. Our overall experience will definitely bring us back!
Birthday-my daughter’s 18th!
It was my 1st anniversary. I set at the bar until my husband arrived the bar staff was amazing. When the rep called me to confirm my reservation she told me about the preset menu and i was fine with it. I called back to see were they offering a vegetarian option and the young lady told me that they will have a special menu just for vegetarians however once we arrive to our table the waitress Trina stated the only option was for us to substitute the meat for only vegetables for each entrée. With the menu being a set at $95 I was fine with what I want it because I’m not vegetarian however I was not fine with them only removing the meat and charging him $95 for veggies especially since I was told there would be an menu to suit his diet. I was really looking forward to dining there and that was my only disappointment.
Cafe Dupont is our favorite restaurant in the Birmingham. So we put it to the ultimate test. We booked it for New Year's Eve, which often overwhelms even the best of restaurants. No problem despite the fact that the place was booked to capacity. Food and service were shere perfection as always. I have eaten in the finest restaurants in the world. Cafe Dupont ranks among the very best. It is just right for my tastes.
Great way to begin 2020!!
The food was all amazing! Service was perfect. Haven’t been there in a number of years, so glad we went again.
Excellent food. Great atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
Chef Adam is a rising star on the Birmingham restaurant scene. Glad to see the next generation carry on the torch of fine dining in Birmingham.
Cafe Dupont is not just a good restaurant; it is a great restaurant. It’s downtown location sometimes does not lend itself to “top of mind” thinking. The good is on par with any of the great restaurants of NYC.
Great ambience, professional and friendly service staff, amazing food, and outstanding bar. Perfect for a romantic night out!
Fabulous restaurant and spectacular food!!!
Christmas gathering with parents & family friends of over 60 years. Restaurant choice was my suggestion (after my first wonderful experience here in November). Everything was perfect! Menu selection, drinks, food, service, ambiance. It was truly a delightful evening for us. We will be customers for life.
We had a show at the Red Mountain Theater Cabaret and went downtown early to eat before the show. We had not eaten at Cafe DuPont in several years so we decided to have dinner there. Very pleasant experience!!
Wonderful experience for our 25th Anniversary. Making reservations to paying the tab was very well done by the wonderful staff. Highly recommend for your Birmingham dining
Had reservations for a birthday dinner, we were seated and no one came to wait on us. There was bread that came via someone from the kitchen, but no water, no server, nothing. After 15 to 20 minutes of sitting, we left. There was a group of servers standing behind the counter which was our biggest issue since no one felt compelled to see if we even wanted a drink. Very disappointed.
Food and service were very good. Portions were a little small for the price.
Very accommodating staff. I took my daughter who lives out of town and we had a relaxing dinner with plenty of time to converse.
Café Dupont was just a superb experience from beginning to end! From the valet who parked our car to the EXCELLENT waiter (Thanks, Lance!)....we were treated special and we both want to highly recommend the restaurant and its very accommodating staff to our OpenTable patrons! This was one of the best dining experiences we have had recently and we enjoy a fine meal. Kudos to all!
Logan was a great server! Food was delicious and atmosphere is always perfect - quiet, but loud enough you don’t think your neighbor is listening.
Best fried chicken I’ve ever had!
Great meal and super service. Will come back again. We all enjoyed our evening at Cafe Dupont.
Excellent food and service! The presentation of each dish was spectacular.
This was by far the most incredible dining experience! The food was gourmet, and the staff was world class! Nate treated our family like royalty! We will definitely be back!
Anniversary dinner couldn’t have been more perfect! Our first time at Cafe Dupont was just wonderful. Loved the ambiance & vintage details of the building. Our waitress was wonderful and her timing impeccable. Started with cocktails and time to enjoy them before inquiring about an appetizer. I ordered the cheese plate, my husband the fried oysters & okra. Cheese plate was picture perfect with a tasty and generous variety- definitely enough to share between 2-3 people. The fried oysters were so wonderful. And the sauce accompanying it was divine. Husband said he could have ordered a 2nd plate in lieu of an entree it was so good. Flash frying gave the perfect texture. Our waitress was very attentive but waited until we had finished that course before taking our entree order. And she arrived with flutes of champagne to toast our anniversary. Really appreciated the timing & enjoyment. I ordered the lamb chops and duck breast and she highly recommend the braised rabbit for my husband. We were both delighted with our meals. For dessert she recommended the apple tartan with butter pecan ice cream. Debated on the beignets bc they are so classic New Orleans- she brought us both. After dessert she arrived with a small glass of port wine for us to try. The whole experience was wonderful and we cannot wait to return!
Hands down, the best in Birmingham.
Our waiter was AMAZING! He took the time to make sure our order was right AND he was thoughtful enough to bring us a "snack" with our bill to have after the concert we were attending after we ate! We really appreciated him thinking of us! Thank you so much for a wonderful start to our evening!
As always, exceptional service and food!
Best overall dining experience in Birmingham
Atmosphere and service fantastic.
Great place for birthdays, any event or just to go.
Great restaurant and dinning experience.
Fantastic choice in restaurant. Some friends had recommended it and I knew I had to try it and take my girlfriend with me. For appetizer we started out with the wagyu steak carpaccio which was fantastic, loaded with flavor. For dinner I ordered the prime ribeye with the farm fresh egg, it was by far the best ribeye i’ve ever had. The meat was very tender and seasoned very well. My girlfriend ordered the lamb and qual which was outrageously tender and seasoned to perfection. For dessert we ordered the granny smith apple tartin... let me just tell you, that was one of the best desserts i’ve ever had. All around just a great experience. Our waiter was amazing with fantastic service. Would definitely recommend and would definitely eat there again. In my opinion, it is very well priced for the quality and quantity of food you receive.
It was a lovely evening all around. Highly recommended.
One of my fav’ Birmingham restaurants. Authentic French food, amazing service, great wine menu.
First time here. The service was outstanding. The food was excellent. However, it was one of those one plate dinner kind of places. Beth had the scallops nicely arranged around a starch/vegetable pile. I had lamb and duck breast piled on top of a pile of starch, root vegetables and greens. For the price, I kind of expected a 2-4 course meal with a well plated protein, starch and green vegetable. Perhaps I am spoiled by going to too many multi-course dinners, particularly in Europe. I guess it is depends on what you are looking for.
