My very favorite restaurant in Birmingham -- love the food and atmosphere
Though it was unusual, we had to wait almost 20 minutes for our table for a reservation we had for 7:30. That has never happened before. Our meal was very good as usual. Fried okra and oysters were great, sauce delish. My trout was sautéed & served with fresh veggie succotash, ate every bite. Husband's pork belly and lamb were enjoyed. Got a taste of the pork belly which was very smoky flavored. We were celebrating our anniversary and they brought us complementary glasses of champagne. Our server was very good also. Have dined here many times and the food doesn't disappoint.
Romantic ambiance, superb food and stellar service! My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous meal this past weekend and look forward to returning when we are back in Birmingham.
Please consider some sort of noise dampening. It was so loud Saturday night that my husband and I had trouble having a conversation.
One of Birmingham’s most underrated restaurants. Great food and great service!
The food at Cafe Dupont was delicious, customer service was excellent, and the ambiance was great.
I thought they had exceptional service. The food was good and beautifully presented.
The hostess was very friendly and accommodated a late arrival. The appetizers were delicious and artfully presented with edible flowers and unique garnishes.
Loved the bar and overall feel of the restaurant. Little things like the quality of the glassware, the talent of the mixologist, fresh ingredients at the bar all added up to be a 5 star bar in my opinion. Hostess was friendly and professional. Service was excellent, both at the bar and especially at dinner. Our disappointment was with the entrees. We started with fried okra & oysters, which was very good, piping hot but a little too salty. I had a salad. Perfect size and delicious. I had scallops, and while they were good, they weren't anything that I will remember. Seemed to be missing something, though I couldn't say what. My husband had the quail. He said it was poorly seasoned. The stuffing was mostly breading, with very little andouille sausage, hardly any at all. He said it tasted like store bought stuffing and the overall dish was not very good. He graded it a D. He thought the kale was bitter and tough. I thought it was ok, at best. We finished on a high note with a delicious blackberry cobbler!
Maybe we just ordered wrong that night... I do think we would come back to give it another chance. But honestly, with so many options in Bham, we would probably choose somewhere else. If someone asked me about it, I would tell them to give it a try. Like I said before, maybe we just ordered wrong that night.
Best “tasting menu” in the state!!
Anniversary. We usually come here for special occasions, e.g., Anniversaries, Birthdays, New Years. Always excellent, as it was tonight. However, was a little disappointed in the lamb chops tonight. While they were very tasty, there was a fair amount of grizzle in the meat between the bones; I could not cut through it to separate. When I asked for a sharper knife, server said the one I had was the sharpest they had. Let me emphasize that after eating here even when it was located in Springville, this is the first “disappointment” that I have experienced, and it did not take away she delightful experience we had in this special occasion, and I will be back for the next occasion.
Nice ambiance, excellent food. Outrageous cocktail prices and wine prices. They may be the most expensive cocktails in Birmingham, and they are definitely not the best (though they are decent...just not overly creative or anything special). The wine list is insanely expensive. Even Highlands Bar and Grill has affordable options on their menu.
The appetizers and entrees were priced accordingly for a restaurant of this class. The staff is a bit robotic...not their fault as I'm sure they are trained to be that way, but the robotic seen but not heard staff mentality is a bit too old school to still be so popular. Extremely polite and respectful, but uncomfortably serving. Definitely appeals to the much older crowd, but restaurants and businesses in general should keep up with what younger-ish generations want in order to stay alive in the future.
Anniversary dinner. Everything was perfect!
Everything was outstanding, from the service to the food. I give it my highest recommendation!!
Absolutely Amazing! We go annually and look forward to the experience each time.
This was our first time at Cafe Dupont - a french style restaurant. The restaurant was very popular with groups and what looked like work groups so the noise level at times was high. We were sat near the window next to another couple.
Our waiter was a little stand offish but quite professional. The food was well presented and tasted good. For starters we had foie gras and sesame tuna and this was followed by chicken and quail both of which were succulent. The dessert menu was a bit limited so we decided not to have any. This is a nice restaurant with laundered white table clothes and good service but seemed a bit stuffy - maybe this was just our waiter. They also offer valet parking.
Some of the best food and service in Birmingham . My wife and I did a date night there and couldn’t have been more pleased
No O.J. for cocktail. No ribeye filet instead. Out of a fish entree
The food was excellent! The service was the best of any restaurant I've been to in Birmingham. I am definitely going back to Cage Dupont!
Always great food and great service.
Service was very professional and the food was excellent.
the food was phenomenal. a great mix of flavors and tastes. the smoked duck was especially delicious. definitely will be back in the future. wonderful, attentive and knowledgeable service and the ambience rivals anywhere we've eaten in NYC or Paris. thank you for an outstanding dining experience.
DuPont was first class! We will go again. Food and service were excellent
Everything was amazing! It was our anniversary and it was a perfect dinner
Amazing experience! The food was so unique and everything was even better than a pictured it to be. The best restaurant in Birmingham, in my opinion.
Very enjoyable experience. very cordial from the first moment we walked in. Food was very good. Nice for a special occasion.
Great food and service as always. Great menu with interesting choices. Wine list is nice and nice cocktails.
The atmosphere was very chill and relaxing. Food was excellent and service was stellar. We will be back!!
Unusual , I th9ink but we had a very noisy table in the restaurant and it is small so quite loud for everyone.
In a town full of great restaurants Cafe Dupont stands out. Great place!!!
We had amazing food, service and hospitality.
Wonderful food, wine selection, and service as always!
Very nice experience. Service was exceptional. Food was very good. Location a bit of a challenge.
My husband and I enjoyed an excellent dining experience at Cafe Dupont. The grilled scallops may have the best I've ever tasted, and they came with delicious vegetables. For dessert, I ordered the peach cobbler, which was wonderful, but my husband's chocolate amaretto boucheron was "died and gone to heaven" scrumptious! We teased each other all the rest of the evening about leaving the theater and going back for more! The restaurant is easy to miss in the middle of the block, and even with a considerate valet to help you park, it's problematic. Carpool with your party; don't try to meet up there. Oh, yes, we will be back!
We arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation and were made to with over 30 minutes for our table. once in the dining room we discovered that over half the tables were empty. The food was forgettable, portions were very, very small, parings were odd, and it was served in giant bowls. The room was eerily quiet and awkward with no background sound provided. they made up for all that though by providing EXTREMELY slow service. If you're ignoring this, remember later that I told you so!
Four of us dined at Dupont’s and none of us was pleased. The ONLY redeeming dish was the oyster/okra appetizer. Perfectly battered and fried. The veggie plate was way too much and all glopped on the plate. The scallops were so-so and the friend green tomatoes were greasy and too much batter. The final disappointment were the beignets. They had been deep fried in the same oil that had been used for other things.... frying fish, tomatoes, etc. Therefore, the beignets reflected those tastes.
We had to summon the waiter several times as he paid no attention to us. We did not send our dishes back to the kitchen, but we should have. We left way too much food to be thrown away.
Attentive but not impatient service. We went with the intention of having a leisurely dinner, and that is what we had! Waiter provided excellent descriptions of specialty drinks and menu items. He also made helpful recommendations as to how certain items paired with each other. Overall a very good experience! Highly recommended.
There is inbalance in reputation and value
While the tenderloin & quail was great—the appetizers and beet salad were very small and the the prices high .
The food and service was fantastic. Only thing my husband and I both said that it was extremely loud. It was hard to carry on a conversation with the other couple. But, we had a big table of 6 behind us.
Cafe DuPont has yet to disappoint. Professional staff throughout from the bar to the dining room. I enjoyed a Manhattan made with a dark rye I had never tried and it was outstanding. My husband ordered the duck after some discussion with our waiter, Nate. It did not disappoint nor did the salmon I selected. Impeccable service which only adds to delectable food!
