Took a chance and decided to try Cafe Dupont for the first time which was also my first business meeting with a new customer. Everything was great. The food and staff are excellent Try an Old Fashioned at the bar - you won't find a better one anywhere. I will be back the next time I am in Birmingham.
Very attentive service. The space is large, with high ceilings. Food is thoughtfully prepared. Evening lighting is very dark, crossing the line from romantic ambience to cave feeling.
Very disappointed we suggested Cafe DuPont to our friends. Over 3 hours for dinner. Super super slow. Won’t be back. Too many good places in Birmingham to go again.
Great service and outstanding food.
Our dinner was like visiting an old friend. After not visiting for several years, we chose to quietly celebrate my wife’s birthday with a special dinner. We were not disappointed. All the key elements were very much in place. We were delighted by an excellent wine served perfectly and consistently monitored by our server. My only wish for the evening that was unmet was the desire to have one of their excellent fresh gulf fish dishes which were not on the Saturday night menu (apparently due to availability). It was nice to see that our old friend was in excellent health and maintaining their tradition as one of Birmingham’s finest.
My server was amazing. Food was great. I’m not very familiar with 5 star restaurants and each server helped me feel very comfortable with my experience there. It’s in a great location and the seating didn’t feel crowded even though there were a lot of people present.
I had a dish of lamb that was absolutely incredible. One of the best meals I’ve ever had.
We celebrated a stay-cation by going out to the best restaurants in town. Cafe Dupont exceeded our expectations with an exceptional meal and impeccable service. The portions were a bit small, but it was quality over quantity-we did not leave hungry.
My pan-seared scallops with succotash might be the best meal I’ve had in Birmingham.
Restaurant is great. Staff is always helpful and excited to answer questions. The waiter was extremely professional and kind. The restaurant is enjoyable and they make you feel like family. The actual plates are great as well.
Beautiful experience from start to finish! Highly recommend to any foodie with a discerning palate, any lover of great wines, anyone demanding exceptional service. All in a charming and quiet atmosphere where you can actually enjoy the conversation at your table.
Mother/ daughter dinner. Service was wonderful. Trina and Reed. Food and drink excellent. Thanks for a lovely evening.
Celebrated our 44th anniversary w/ you Fri, Aug 2. Our second visit since relocating from Nville. Have decided Cafe DuPont is “our special place!” Thank you one and all—owner, staff, chef——cannot think of anything to improve upon!!
Excellent combination of upscale ambiance with farm to table menu options. We will return soon. Also an ideal choice for entertaining out-of-town friends, especially when combined with a cocktail at the top of the Elyton across the street.
Fabulous place to eat fresh and local vegetables. I highly recommend it for a special night out.
Outstanding food and ambience! Exceptional staff. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Birmingham due in large part to our experience here.
The service was wonderful.. have not had such great service in so long.. the food was perfect.. I will be back! Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Food was excellent. Highly recommend for special occasions and for anytime dining. Staff attentive but not intrusive. Everything was fresh and delicious.
Our 1 year anniversary dinner!
Very pleasant place to go for dinner. Everything was well prepared and served. Was not a fan of fried Oysters bc they were heavy and didn’t go w everything else. Chocolate trio was perfect.
Terrible service. Went dry on water and drinks and had to find a waiter to refill.. Food was not very good. This had been a place that was excellent in my view years ago but this experience was very poor. We had used it often for business dinners and social events in the past but will never return.
Service was very good. Restaurant was clean, if uninspired. The oysters and okra appetizer was exceptional. The sea scallops were very good, but a little undercooked. The fried trout was average. The blueberry cobbler was poor. The seats were hard and uncomfortable.
We were visiting Birmingham from Seattle and noticed Cafe Dupont across the street from our hotel - so we checked the menu on-line and it looked great, so we made a reservation and headed over. We were seated promptly, the waiter and wait staff were friendly, and the food was delicious. My wife had the trout and I had the quail with duck entree, which was served on a delicious vegetable tart. The food was presented beautifully as well. If we make it back to Birmingham, I'm sure we'll eat there again.
Not a writer but can say the food choices were impressive. My companion and I had separate dishes preceded by the cheese platter. Wow to all three dishes. So enjoyed the selection of cheese and accompaniments. My filet was prepared exactly as I requested. My companion so enjoyed he sea scallops she was still impressed and talking about them the next morning. So can’t wait until my next visit. White tablecloths, great food and the best desert. Ambiance, wish more restaurants could equal yours.
My very favorite restaurant in Birmingham -- love the food and atmosphere
Though it was unusual, we had to wait almost 20 minutes for our table for a reservation we had for 7:30. That has never happened before. Our meal was very good as usual. Fried okra and oysters were great, sauce delish. My trout was sautéed & served with fresh veggie succotash, ate every bite. Husband's pork belly and lamb were enjoyed. Got a taste of the pork belly which was very smoky flavored. We were celebrating our anniversary and they brought us complementary glasses of champagne. Our server was very good also. Have dined here many times and the food doesn't disappoint.
Romantic ambiance, superb food and stellar service! My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous meal this past weekend and look forward to returning when we are back in Birmingham.
Such a disappointment this time. We had reservations for weeks and had out of town guests. We had raved about Cafe DuPont. We were seated 35 minutes late without explanation. The food was average at best. The salads were the size of the palm of our hand. No apology from the manager, no comped drinks, no comped dessert. Therefore no return for us.
Please consider some sort of noise dampening. It was so loud Saturday night that my husband and I had trouble having a conversation.
One of Birmingham’s most underrated restaurants. Great food and great service!
The food at Cafe Dupont was delicious, customer service was excellent, and the ambiance was great.
I thought they had exceptional service. The food was good and beautifully presented.
The hostess was very friendly and accommodated a late arrival. The appetizers were delicious and artfully presented with edible flowers and unique garnishes.
Loved the bar and overall feel of the restaurant. Little things like the quality of the glassware, the talent of the mixologist, fresh ingredients at the bar all added up to be a 5 star bar in my opinion. Hostess was friendly and professional. Service was excellent, both at the bar and especially at dinner. Our disappointment was with the entrees. We started with fried okra & oysters, which was very good, piping hot but a little too salty. I had a salad. Perfect size and delicious. I had scallops, and while they were good, they weren't anything that I will remember. Seemed to be missing something, though I couldn't say what. My husband had the quail. He said it was poorly seasoned. The stuffing was mostly breading, with very little andouille sausage, hardly any at all. He said it tasted like store bought stuffing and the overall dish was not very good. He graded it a D. He thought the kale was bitter and tough. I thought it was ok, at best. We finished on a high note with a delicious blackberry cobbler!
Maybe we just ordered wrong that night... I do think we would come back to give it another chance. But honestly, with so many options in Bham, we would probably choose somewhere else. If someone asked me about it, I would tell them to give it a try. Like I said before, maybe we just ordered wrong that night.
Best “tasting menu” in the state!!
Anniversary. We usually come here for special occasions, e.g., Anniversaries, Birthdays, New Years. Always excellent, as it was tonight. However, was a little disappointed in the lamb chops tonight. While they were very tasty, there was a fair amount of grizzle in the meat between the bones; I could not cut through it to separate. When I asked for a sharper knife, server said the one I had was the sharpest they had. Let me emphasize that after eating here even when it was located in Springville, this is the first “disappointment” that I have experienced, and it did not take away she delightful experience we had in this special occasion, and I will be back for the next occasion.
Nice ambiance, excellent food. Outrageous cocktail prices and wine prices. They may be the most expensive cocktails in Birmingham, and they are definitely not the best (though they are decent...just not overly creative or anything special). The wine list is insanely expensive. Even Highlands Bar and Grill has affordable options on their menu.
The appetizers and entrees were priced accordingly for a restaurant of this class. The staff is a bit robotic...not their fault as I'm sure they are trained to be that way, but the robotic seen but not heard staff mentality is a bit too old school to still be so popular. Extremely polite and respectful, but uncomfortably serving. Definitely appeals to the much older crowd, but restaurants and businesses in general should keep up with what younger-ish generations want in order to stay alive in the future.
Anniversary dinner. Everything was perfect!
Everything was outstanding, from the service to the food. I give it my highest recommendation!!
Absolutely Amazing! We go annually and look forward to the experience each time.
This was our first time at Cafe Dupont - a french style restaurant. The restaurant was very popular with groups and what looked like work groups so the noise level at times was high. We were sat near the window next to another couple.
Our waiter was a little stand offish but quite professional. The food was well presented and tasted good. For starters we had foie gras and sesame tuna and this was followed by chicken and quail both of which were succulent. The dessert menu was a bit limited so we decided not to have any. This is a nice restaurant with laundered white table clothes and good service but seemed a bit stuffy - maybe this was just our waiter. They also offer valet parking.
