Owner Cavit Ozturk, who has worked in restaurants for 25 years in Turkey, London, and the United States, and chef Yucel Atalay, who recently worked at Nizam's in Vienna, have developed a menu of Turkish cuisine that includes dishes not seen on other area menus - cerkez tavuk, chicken with walnut sauce; su boregi, a savory feta stuffed pastry; kofte made from lentils, cracked wheat and aromatic spices; and whole lamb cooked on the wood-fired rotisserie.
Terrible place- the food was not very tasty. The restaurant was filled with mosquitoes and the servers were also rude.
Excellent Turkish cuisine especially the Thursday night slow cooked lamb.
The food is average but very disappointed that the $26- piece of fish that we ordered (theoretically flown in from Turkey) was not deboned like the waiter said it was. It was a severe chocking hazard. I mentioned to the waiter three times that it was bot to my liking. I should have asked to speak to a manager. The waiter said it was his fault- then why was no adjustment made to my bill??
I have lived and traveled in Turkey extensively
based upon the reviews we went here with friends
Dissapointing to say the least, nothing was up to standard
I will not return and the past reviews are not accruate
We go regularly and live the food - great hummus and Lahmacun and lamb and and ...
Cafe Divan is our favorite place. Over the years we’ve introduced many friends to the great food and good service.
Great food and service!
Great food, excellent service, reasonable price- a must experience place for real Turkish food.
The service was excellent; our waiter was attentive and friendly; and prices are very moderate. Unfortunately, the meals were not as good as the last time we were there about one year ago. The branzino was a bit overcooked and the lamb dish was not as flavorful as in the past. We've heard similar complaints from friends. We hope they improve on quality and consistency because we have really enjoyed this restaurant in the past.
Great— always a pleasure ! Food terrific. People especially nice. We love Divan!
The food is pretty good but the service was pretty bad and the restaurant wasn’t even half full.
As always, the most enjoyable in every way. Our family's all-time favorite. We have been coming here for many years. And it is only getting better. I wish I could say this about more restaurants. Just hope that it will stay this way for many years to come!
Our favorites: donner, iskander, yogurtu kebabs, lamb kofta, pide (our kids are very fond of all of them), and of course amazing haydari (not to be confused with cacik, which is also good, but not the same). Come and try for yourself! And remember to order their Turkish coffee served the way it should be served! Desserts - decide for yourself, too many good options to recommend one!
Oh, almost forgot - Yakut wine is perfect with kebabs and kofte. We would order Shiraz elsewhere, and you will not be disappointed if you order it in cafe Divan, but Yakut here is too good to be missed.
I know Turkish food - was a Peace Corps volunteer in Turkey in the 60's. The food at Cafe Divan is authentic and excellent! Matched by the service and attention! High value! The ambiance leaves a bit to be desired for Georgetown... but its overcome by the superb fare and delivery!!
Always a pleasure to dine here -- consistently good food, excellent service and reasonably priced.
It is a neighborhood gem with delicious Turkish food.
Convenient location in Georgetown and worked perfectly for a large group dinner. 15 people can be a lot to manage but the service was good and the food was amazing. We would definitely go back.
Very good experience overall. Excellent food.
I have always and will always love this establishment.
The eggplant pide was to die for! This is an adorable spot with great service and outstanding food. Would definitely go back.
Delicious Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine! I gorged on freshly baked flatbread, smoked eggplant salad, and a mezze platter and ended up having to take home much of my mushroom pide. The portions are generous. There is a take-out counter in a separate room as well. Definitely recommend.
It is always a pleasure to dine at Divan.
I wish the ambience would be better, though.A good designer might help..
Also tinted glass and super .clean windows could make a minimal improvement.A bouquet of summer flowers on the desk at the entry is not too difficult to display.
This one of the nicest Turkish restaurant in mva area. I wish they could add more Turkish wine and beer selection in their menu. If you want to eat authentic Turkish food this place will give you this experience.
Food was great. Service was very very slow. They had a few large groups ahead of us. It was graduation weekend. I would definitely go back.
We all had different Pides. the Turkish version of pizza, for lunch & they were all delicious. Everything about the meal, ambience was perfect.
We have been coming here for years. The service is great and the food is phenomenal! It is authentic Turkish cuisine and it is extremely delicious! The only Turkish restaurant I go to in the DC area because it’s the best!
Mother’s day. Cosy place. Good food. Nice people
Excellent and authentic Turkish food with attentive service and attractive decor. Outdoor tables are great too.
Great authentic food.
Open Table reservation not noted.
Continues to be one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. When not sure where to go, Cafe Divan is our default. We can always expect excellent food and good service.
The food was excellent, the service was excellent. I liove the relaxed and friendly feel of the pkace.
It was not worth the visit. The only good thing was the hummus! The service was non existent had to ask for water, to order. It was cold. The chicken and meat were both dry the pilaf chunky. The whole meal was awful from quality to service. I could go on but won’t. You get the idea.
Good Turkish food -- the mushroom pide was excellent. Took a while for the drinks to arrive, though.
The food was good in general. The dolma and the smoked eggplant purée were very good
This was my second time dining after 5 years. The service was mediocre. We ordered two veggie appetizers and they were not even warm. Borderline cold. The doner kabob was good
We had a lovely early dinner at Cafe Divan- the food was good, the service excellent and attentive. Loved the warm pita served with the meal- portion size was quite generous- had it for lunch the next day!
Turkish food is for anyone to enjoy. It is not heavily spiced or it does not include ingredients that you can not pronounce or need google search. Basic food just cook with perfection.
A busy Saturday night at the restaurant - we appreciated that they accommodated our 15-min early arrival for our 8pm reservation. However, service was mediocre at best. Two people at our table were supposed to receive salads with their entrees but didn't realize they had been forgotten until the end of the meal. Bread didn't arrive until after we received our food, and only because we asked about it (even though it was supposed to be included. Two dishes did not arrive with the others because the server had forgotten to include them in the original order (probably a result of not writing anything down when the order was taken). They provided a complimentary dessert at the end for our party of 6, though it just arrived as a surprise after the bill was delivered, with no explanation or apologies for the poor experience.
I brought another friend to Cafe Divan. She was in heaven. Cafe Divan never disappoints. The food is always fresh and well presented. Whether we get a mix of starters for dinner or a mix of starters and entrees, my friends are always impressed by the variety of tastes and colors. The Cafe is a fun place to explore food and have a great conversation. The Cafe has great ambiance. Two thumbs up.
A great restaurant—- in our neighborhood ; we love it.Staff and atmosphere welcoming. Food always terrific!
