The human tongue has roughly 10,000 taste buds. Our aim is to excite all of them! By showcasing local flavors and ingredients, we create dishes that please the palate and the eye. And after the main meal, may we suggest you save room for dessert. We make all of our pastries and ice cream on the premises daily, and they are simply scrumptious.
What makes dining at our restaurant so special? At Cafe Diablo, we believe a superb meal requires 4 ingredients:
A blending of tastes that delight, energize and yet comfort the palate.
A plate that pleases the eye and makes you want to take a picture before you dive in.
Glad we shared the ribs. It was even too much for both of us. Margaritas are the best. Bring back the lobster mac n cheese, please. Waitress, Marjie, was superb.
See you on our next trip to Torrey and the sublime Utah desert country.
A surprisingly diverse and excellent menu. We had 5 items, all delicious. Superb wine list. Did a great job of accommodating dietary preferences. Service was excellent. Would definitely go again whenever we are within hailing distance of Torrey, Utah.
Disappointed! We didn't eat this time as p9the unimaginative chef refused to adapt his menu to feed our need for gluten free and vegan food. The menu sounds interesting and they've made adjustments in the past but not this time, even though the menu showed they had ingredients that could have been assembled into a satisfactory meal. Apparently they no longer will feed special needs even when they accompany a mear-earer.
Awesome food and service. The kitchen stayed open to accommodate four hungry cyclists!
Have eaten here in years past and enjoyed it. This time, was very disappointed. Food was overcooked, not fresh, and not as described on the menu. Unlikely I will return.
Traveling through and read good reviews and a few bad ones. We disagree with the bad ones. We are foodies and we all 3 finished every bite. Excellent margaritas, creative dishes, and great flavor. We were super impressed!
We revisited with much excitement as our first visit a year or so ago was incredible. The quality of the food was not as good as I had remembered though. The ribs were not as wonderful as my last visit ... a bit "mushy" and not as flavorable. The chicken was a bit dry. The appies were great! Service was quite good and friendly.
They were out of multiple foods even though we arrived early in the evening. There was no silverware at our table, even after food started to show up. The poor wait staff was stretched thin as the restaurant was obviously understaffed. The trout was drier than dry alongside the elk (ordered medium rare). Drinks were rarely filled, and the prices were outrageous for the mediocre quality of the food. The only plus side was the rattlesnake cakes and even they weren’t anything to write home about.
I don't know if there are new owners, chef and pastry chef but I was very disappointed with the food this visit. It lacked the creativity, nice presentation and flavor Cafe Diablo once had 10-20 years ago. I was looking forward to the tasty desserts I'd loved in past visits but was met with a display of 3 silly looking half domes in bright green, yellow and red that looked like plastic children's toys - I had taken too many unfulfilling risks there this visit. I politely declined.
Great little restaurant in Torrey Utah. When there is nothing but cheap small town food, this is amazing escape from all that.
The food and service were both excellent. It was just the right amount of food and served to me very promptly. I had the sirloin and it was cooked to perfection.
Food was served very quickly, too quickly, making one feel rushed.
Food was mediocre for price. Lamb shank tasted like mutton.
Rattlesnake cakes were interesting, salad ok.
Would not recommend
Cafe Diablo is located on the edge of town with plenty of parking. The decor is lively and comfortable. Service is friendly and attentive. The menu has a large variety ranging from lamb, beef, chicken, bison, elk, fish, pork and pasta. I tried the pumpkin stuffed ravioli with Gorgonzola and pears the first night and the lamb shank the second. The pasta was excellent, a nice blend of flavors. The lamb was good but not my favorite...something about the braising liquid flavor just wasn’t my favorite. My friends got the bison ragu and the ribs. The bison ragu was gone before I got a chance to taste...he said it was very good. The ribs are a full side..enough for two people. The seasoning is a mix of pomegranate and chipotle...gave the pork a definite flavor which was not my favorite. The sides have a southwest twist and are good. I would definitely recommend this place. I will go back the next time I am in Torrey.
Best in Utah.
What an exceptional restaurant; even more remarkable when you consider that it is in a small town in UT. There is lovely art on the walls. The menu was eclectic southwestern. I had the smoked salmon mingle (a salad small plate) that was delicious and just the right size. My husband had the ribs - must have been a full rack rolled upright on the plate over mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts. For Utah, they had an exceptional wine list. I would definitely recommend it.
We had a bad experience. After ordering a glass of wine, my wife asked our waitress if she could substitute a margarita instead. The waitress then brought the margarita as requested. When the bill came, after the meal, we discovered that we were being charged for both the glass of wine and the margarita. The waitress explained that the manager insisted on charging us $12 for the wine because the glass had already been poured when we asked to substitute the margarita. Had we known that at the time we asked to substitute, we would have accepted the wine. The experience spoiled our evening.
Interesting menu in “the middle of no where”. Decent drink and wine list . Friendly service
What a treat! This is a gem among the canyons! Was nervous about trying the rattlesnake cakes but was glad I did - they're out of this world! Shared the ribeye steak, the grits were delicious and the asparagus tips were unlike others I've had and so yummy. I recommend the prickly pear margarita with sugar rim and berry cheesecake to compliment the meal!
Surprising innovative menu in "back of beyond" Torrey, Utah. And a decent little wine list. Cheerful service. We'll be back!
Very friendly service. Our food was beautiful and delicious. A gem in the dessert.
Recommended by our hotel. Food was good. Excellent wine list.
Lamb shank was really nice. Southern west chicken was really good too. Didn’t like the fact that they automatically included 18% gratuity, on a table for 2. Marked down for that. I’m happy to tip but that should be left for me to decide.
We came last year and were pleasantly surprised by the high quality and creativeness of the Southwestern dinner menu. So my wife and I returned and were again extremely pleased with the tasty items we ordered (San Saba Chicken and Lobster Mac and Cheese, both excellent) as well as the extensive wine by the glass or bottle list. Our server was attentive, friendly and helpful. We also love the original paintings of the fruits and vegetables scattered throughout. The Cafe Diablo is quite a find for such a small and remote town as Torrey, Utah. We will be back again next year.
Excellent meal. Try the Empenadas on the appetizer menu! Delicious! The Elk was good too
Cafe Diablo is much better than I ever expected to find in a small city such as Torrey. The menu is unique starting with the rattlesnake cakes and ending with dessert that changes so often that they don’t print a dessert menu. The ribs are some of the best that I have ever tasted and their presentation is fabulous.
If presentation were everything,I would need a few more stars.Incredibly inventive—and it tastes really good, too!
Unexpectedly cool little place with awesome food. The entrees were good but the desserts were absolutely exceptional. Save room!
We had read good reviews and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The menu offered great variety making it a bit hard to decide what to order. I finally decided on the lamb shank and was totally satisfied. My wife tried the chicken breast and was equally pleased. The service was perfect. The presentation of our dinners was beautiful. We will return!
Went here on recommendation from a friend. Food was very creative e and delicious. Hard to imagine this great of a restaurant in such a small town. Well worth the price.
Excellent as always. We make a point of coming here when ever we are in town. We even waited to celebrate our anniversary so we could have a special dinner here. Love the rattlesnake cakes!
We were in Torrey for two days, and we had both dinners at Café Diablo. Unusually good Southwest cuisine. We would have liked more desert selections and more flexibility about customizing menu selections. (For example, we asked if the salmon could be made a little less hot spicy, and were told it could not.) The parking lot could use some lighting; it is totally dark at night.
While visiting all the Utah parks we read that Cafe Diablo was one of the top 10 restaurants in Utah so we had to give it a try. It is tucked off the road in the very small town of Torrey Utah, close to Capital Reef NP. What a great find!! We made reservations and were glad we did because the restaurant filled up. There were 4 in our party and each dish we had was excellent. Tried the rattlesnake cakes and empanadas for appetizers with the prickly pear margarita. So, so good! Our waitress Margie was attentive, friendly and had great suggestions. The lamb shank was cooked to perfection! Other dishes were the trout, pumpkin ravioli and chicken...all delicious. We topped off the dinner by sharing the chocolate raspberry cheesecake.
Servizio ottimo e veloce, il cibo non è all’altezza dei prezzi. Ho preso il cervo, se non fosse stato per la salsa di ciliegie il piatto sarebbe stato insapore, così i gamberi
We enjoyed our meal and especially the service that we received from our male server. Beer was pretty doggone expensive but I understand they’re getting their license soon. Overall we enjoyed the experience.
This may be the best place in Torrey but I found it a bit lackluster. Everything I ordered came in a tasteless deep-fried shell, whether the aspargus appetizer or the warm mushroom and spinach salad. The latter was my favorite thing, once we dumped it out of the deep-fried serving bowl. Had the Mexican pumpkin ravioli which was okay. The pear bites were sweet but the tang of the Gorgonzola didn’t bite enough for my palate
Café Diablo is a wonderful place to got o in Torrey. The food service and atmosphere all combine to make your dining experience an enjoyable one. I recommend the Pumpkin Ravioli as well as the San Saba Chicken. I cannot forget to mention the Rocky Mountain Elk Sirloin which was superb. The wine list here is an interesting one, but one where you will find what you desire. If you miss dining here, you will be missing a good dining opportunity.
We chose this restaurant based on TripAdviser reviews. My husband loved the green chile and lobster mac and cheese, I had the salad with strawberries and nuts. I was able to get a larger salad to share and added a chicken breast. Everything was delicious!
Great food- presented very well- a real treat! Flavours of the Southwest indeed!
Came here for a birthday dinner while visiting the Capitol Reef NP/Torrey area. We were very pleased with our meal and had a watermelon feta salad to share. The salad was excellent, perfectly done. He had lobster Mac and Cheese, and loved it. I had the lamb shank and it was wonderful. We had enough of the lamb shank meal to bring home for another meal. Great sides with the lamb shank. Inventive, southwestern emphasis.
Only complaint: no decent non alcoholic beverages. Apparently all of their cocktails come pre mixed. One more comment: focaccia served as complimentary was good, would have been better served warm, in our opinion.
Service was good, not too prompt. Attentive, but not invasive. Not super knowledgeable of the menu, but we knew what we wanted, so it was no problem.
This is the best place in town from what we heard. We would definitely come back.
A delightful surprise in central Utah. Couple with stay at Torrey Schoolhouse b&b and it’s califo all over again
