Café Des Beaux-Arts Ratings and Reviews
I never leave reviews but will make an exception for this meal.
The occasion was Thanksgiving dinner. First off, many, many restaurants take advantage of (gouge) diners when offering holiday meals. Not the case with Cd'BA.-three amazing courses for $40.
Each course had four offerings, so, many options. My husband and I both ordered the Brie en croute with salad...heavenly. I had the traditional Thanksgiving fare, my husband had the lamb. Bottom line, I would come back here weekly to have this same meal if offered, it was so well done. My husband felt the same.
Lastly, I was feeling a bit stuffed and wanted something lighter that what was offered in the four traditional choices of desert. I mentioned that to my waiter, and raspberry sorbet - one of the best sorbets I've had in my life - magically appeared.
My husband and I eat out most days of the week and this was one of the best meals I've had in a long, long time.
Well done, Cd'BA!
I attempted to change from 2 to 3 diners. Alas, OpenTable would not take the change...
I arrived first, not a problem accommodating the 3 of us. Hostess delightfully pleasant. We chatted a bit about this being first time to see Navy buddy (and his wife) in 46 years. Once the 3 of us sat, service marvelously accommodating as we weren't in a rush to order. Wine all around further set the mood. Side salads with genuine roquefort dressing outstanding. Salmon absolutely superb, wonderful sauce! Tasty sauteed veggies completed the meal as there was no room for dessert.... This is only my second dinner visit, a few lunches, and I will definitely continue as this dining establishment truly has it together. Excellence at a reasonable price!
Our server Carlos was very nice! We sat at a table facing the street which was lovely. Crab cake was tasty. Cesar salad was a bit over dressed. White fish was a good potion with creamy mash potatoes and veg blend on the side. Scallops were good. Shrimp was very over cooked. Loved the ambiance it is a sweet little spot but not overly impressed with the food.
Our goto restaurant for lunch & brunch when on El Paseo. We met friends for brunch--crepes, croissant egg sandwich, quiche, and eggs Benedict--all quite good. Espresso was a disappointment--bitter taste. Bread is ordinary & not a classic French baguette.
It has a pet friendly covered patio that is perfect for casual dining. Authentic French food. Good for people watching with the added bonus of an occasional celebrity sighting.
ADA access from the side entrance on El Paseo otherwise tables are a little snug in the main dining area for walker or wheelchair access.
I specifically requested an inside table. When I arrived there were open booths inside, but we were seated on the patio, in the back corner. Our table was far away from the open windows, the misters, and the ceiling fans. We had to ask repeatedly for water, and it did not come. It was unbearable! We were soaked to the skin in our clothes. It felt like it was 120 degrees in there and no breeze along with no water. Never again!
It was a bit warm out but we chose to eat on the patio. With the misters on, it wasn't too hot.
I love this place, especially for lunch, as there is always a great choice of entrees, salads, sandwiches, quiches, etc. I had the cold poached salmon plate and a raspberry creme brulee--yum, yum!
The service was great! The food was not what I hoped it would be and the presentation could have been improved. The crab cakes had shell in it and the flavor was over powering. The breakfast potatoes seemed like they were from a package. The crepes were tasty, we just wish they were like the street crepes in Paris.
Glasses of wine extremely short pour; and the wine glasses were small. The Salad Nicoise was just awful - the tuna looked like someone dumped a can of cat food on the greens. Nicoise? I think I found three slices of olives.
Overall, pricey for little value. I will not be going back nor will I recommend this restaurant.
I've been going there for years, and watched it be just a little bit less tasty than the time before. They've been around for a long time (the waiter was quite proud he's been there for 20 years, or so he said). Let's refresh the chef's presentation and quality of food.
A delightful location, space and menu for everyone. A lite Sunday brunch was our agenda and CDBA had everything we needed. Reasonably priced and well selected ingredients for drinks. Vegan and meat lovers selections side by side and attentive, concerned and respectful service made our visit entirely relaxing and enjoyable. Good looking crowd and ability to watch shoppers pass by the open picture window space makes you want to lingers for hours.
We went for Mother's Day breakfast with our family. Some dishes tasted as if they had been pre-made and just heated up. Some were fine. The service was very good and accomodating. We have dined here for dinner and I would go back again. Probably not for a holiday meal.
