Cafe Deluxe - West End
The diverse breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus showcase fresh classics made from scratch. Menu favorites include Steak Frites and Grilled Meatloaf, the Spinach, Feta and Tomato Omelet for breakfast to the Prosciutto Mac & Cheese created from traditional recipes and seasonal ingredients.
The service was awful. After being seated, we sat at the table for 30 mins. with only water. That gave us more than enough time to make reservations for Rasika, on the next block.
Other than taking our order, there was little attention from the server until the end of our visit. Also, the food took a LONG time to arrive, so that despite the food being very good, we would have difficulty going back to this restaurant again.
My favorite place to get brunch and catch up with friends
Most excellent burger I have had in awhile. Plus a very original and very good Cosmo. Highly recommend.
New Chef did great job absolutely phenomenal!!!!!!
The food wasn’t bad but the service was horrible! Waiter tried to take our food order and never asked us if we wanted cocktails. From the time we sat down to the time we got our drinks was 30 min. Never asked if we wanted a 2nd drink. It took another 30 min to get our bill when we were finished. Very poor service.
Cafe Delux was always a solid dining and service experience. Its slipping. This is a second visit to the West End shop, and I have been to the Bethesda store too. They are losing their edge, and the quality of the products seem to be off too. Service was friendly, but what is it about not giving people time to look over the menu before asking? And then follow-up is slow (coffee arrived after dessert was consumed...).
This can happen to a mature restaurant, management needs a wake up call. Old Ebbitt still flies high because they are on top of things. CD needs to do the same.
Excellent service, excellent food, moderate prices for a city.
Kindly accommodated two 12-top parties in the same room. Great service regardless of our own lack of organization. Food and bloody mary's were great!
Always great food. Reasonable prices pleasant surroundings. But as always, erratic service. Waiters seem to disappear for long periods so it’s impossible to get anyone’s attention for a drink refill or to correct an erroneous order or get an extra napkin. I’ve been coming here since it opened a few years ago and it’s been this way consistently under various managers. I guess they deliberately understaff to save on payroll but for the erratic service, it would be great.
It is difficult to describe how poor the service was.
Apart from the service being extremely slow the server(s) did not understand, ignored or forgot simple specific requests
Abby the Waitress is great!
Never disappoints. Brought friends on vacation with kids. Menu is great comfort food with a flair. Server was charming even when service was a bit slow. But she kept the drinks fresh and the kids food came quickly so parents could have a nice time
I've visited for lunch and staffs were super friendly. Also, special menus were very delicious!!
Service was nice, although one order was missed so it came after the others. Desserts were great.
Horrible lighting.. decent service.. so so food
Solid food but terribly inattentive service. Really bad. Usually a reliable, but not spectacular, lunch spot.
Server was distracted and made a couple different mistakes. Meal took more than 40 minutes to come out despite the restaurant being half empty. Listing indicates this place is family friendly, but really not. Cloth napkin place, with everyone there giving us looks for having a kid.
We've enjoyed going to Cafe Deluxe at other locations for years, but noted that the quality was going downhill ... and this visit was the worst. I ordered the salmon eggs Benedict, but the dish could have been plain oatmeal for all the flavor that it had. Hollandaise sauce with no spark, salmon that was dry and chalky ... it was like someone had bleached all the flavors out. Service was spotty. But the location is nice--we had a great table by the big windows, with lots of street activity to watch while we waited for our food.
Solid lunch spot - nothing special.
This restaurant is in my neighborhood and the food is fine (though nothing really special - pretty basic and boring menu) but the service is very inconsistent. I find this interesting because a nearby restaurant , North Italia, just opened and their service is great.
Great place for a business lunch. Highly recommend.
We met old friends for a lovely dinner last Saturday at Cafe Deluxe. I made a reservation, so our table was ready when we arrived, a spacious and fairly quiet table so we could catch up and talk. Food was good and service was adequate, I think the great table we had and the fairly quiet ambience of the restaurant made it a great experience for us. I would definitely go back to Cafe Deluxe, any time we want to meet up, relax with friends, and enjoy a nice evening.
Nice day to sit outside. Salmon special was excellent. Attentive service.
I'd been to Cafe Deluxe at Tyson's and this felt like a basic diner by comparison--a little run down, bad coffee. The Tyson's venue is more upscale. Food and service were good, however. We were here mid-afternoon on Sunday and were pleased with the brunch and lunch offerings--something for everyone. Good for decently priced, basic food. I probably would look for other options next time I'm in the area but this is a good place for families with kids. Nothing to write home about, though.
Host was rude and unapproachable. Short young lady with long hair . She looks Indian.
Nothing spectacular about this place. The service was sub par. It was cold, with fans blowing in the winter. The food was fair.
Breakfast. A weekday, so quiet. Blueberry pancakes should be made with fresh berries. It seem like they were over hydrated dried blueberries. The milk that was provided for the coffee was awesome as it was hot! Loved that.
On a rainy Friday night in DC we were looking for available and convenient. Glad that Cafe Deluxe was across from our hotel.
Nice spot with a diverse menu. Salmon and pasta with bolognese
were our choices. Also ordered some drinks. We were in the less busy side of the restaurant. We found the device concerned but not readily available.
The entrees were well prepared but wouldn’t have minded paying more for a larger portion. That said I would recommend this restaurant and happily return.
Decent, basic food. However, service was very poor. The waitress didn't know much about the menu particulars. She didn't even know if they carried Chamomile tea and other obvious items.
Solid food in a busy and nice room. Good service and a nice brunch menu.
What a wonderful surprise. The hotel’s Cafe Deluxe was cheaper than surrounding restaurants and the food was very good! It had a very pleasant atmosphere- great style. The wait staff was a little slow but nice. Their gluten free buns were EXCELLENT! They looked like they were homemade - moist, tasty, and nothing like a dry Udi’s. I even forgot to order my grilled chicken sandwich with a gluten free bun (my mistake) and they brought me one and didn’t even charge me! Unheard of. We ate there both nights of our stay- great food at great prices.
Decent food. Poor service from hostess and waiter.
Nice casual place. Great location. Service was friendly. Food was good.
Would be nice for big groups or casual dining, but not for intimate or upscale dinners
Always a good lunch spot. Friendly servers.
Service was spotty and from FOUR servers who see,ed not to communicate wi5h each other. The chowder was not hit and filled with lu,is of flour. Back to the Wisconsin Avenue branch high never disappoints.
I love this restaurant but the service was horrible on Saturday, they were very slow and while I asked for a quiet table, we still rarely saw our server. I had to chance them down to start service and then again to get our check.
Abby was great waitress
It was great as always.
Food was okay, service was something to be desired!
