Called ahead to see if we could get something to celebrate a birthday. Woman who took my call failed to convey it to the wait staff. But our waitress, Abby, was terrific. She dealt with it and we had a wonderful ice cream brownie with a candle on it. Thanks, Abby!
Lackluster restaurant: mediocre food with little attention to taste or presentation: wilted salad, dreary dressing; sous-vide cooking equaled ordinary food with no flare.
Nice, varied menu and decent, if not exciting, food. But service was terrible. Even though the restaurant was not busy, it took a long time to get waited on, and then between courses the waiter for our and an adjoining table disappeared entirely. After 35 minutes, we flagged down another waiter and proceeded to go through 3 different servers for the rest of the meal and the check, all of which took an inordinately long time. Would return if service improved, but with things as they are, there are better options.
Yes i would, but with all restaurants let's hope the kitchen staff is excellent.
Food and service were both perfect!
They needed more staff for an important day like Thanksgiving and they ran out of turkey on Thanksgiving which was sad and some of their specialty drinks.
Great location. Nice venue where you can see outside. Great staff. Food is acceptable if not good, not too salty. Not expensive.

Oh what a treat! We are so happy to find "our crew" from the recently closed Wisconsin
Ave Café Deluxe where we were "regulars," now at the West End location. Manager Zeff and Busboy Arturo welcomed us with big smiles. This was our first visit to West End and we were pleased with the location, the ambience, the quality of the dishes (we had chicken pot pie, crab cakes, and kale salad w/ roasted salmon), our server Hawanne was attentive and pleasant. We have found another niche for our restaurant list. Hope you enjoy it too.

Our experience at Cafe Deluxe West End was so bad that we wished that we had crossed the street and gone to the West End Cafe.
We had to repeatedly ask for items that we ordered. The food was overcooked (eggs and salmon) or room-temperature (potatoes).

We love the Cafe Deluxe at Tyson’s Corner & keep trying to give this one on M St a chance...for the 3rd time & it continues to be fair to failure. The new host “in training” was energetic & wonderful, but it went down from there. Two of the four meal orders were wrong, one we had to send back as it was not what the person ordered at all. Our server would be looking elsewhere while we were talking to him. Not sure if we’ll go back as it keeps disappointing. 🙁

Great server, very nice guy. Big portions and good cocktails. V convenient as in Hilton Garden Inn building and almost next door to Embassy Suites.
Had the opportunity to dine with you twice this week. On Tuesday my server was Annie. She was excellent. Today's server was a little less attentive. But I enjoy coming to your restaurant and am a regular.
The food was cold and poorly seasoned. The waiter acted like he didn’t care. The good thing was that the manager was kind enough to reduce the bill.
Getting a server to come to your table is a challenge, whether it be for ketchup (good luck getting it before your food gets cold), bread (good luck getting it before your main course arrives), lemon for the iced tea (good luck getting it before the bread), or even the check (you need to ask for it when the main course arrives or you'll be there for long after you're ready to leave). There needs to be a better way. When the rest of Cafe Deluxe is just a solid 3 stars, the service needs to be better to make me want to go back. I used to go there much more than I do, but the service keeps me away. I keep hoping it will improve, as the restaurant has some things going for it, but I will try it only when I am not in a rush to do anything afterwards.

Traveled to DC with family- we were looking for a good brunch place and this was it!
Service was a little slow and the server was extremely knowledgeable, but he was honest that he hadn’t worked brunch and happily got us the information we needed. Would definitely go back!
Enjoyable dinner on a Sunday evening. Everyone enjoyed their dishes - two fish and one burger. Will return!
The food was good. The host failed to acknowledge us for about 7 minutes after we arrived. The servers failed to refill our beverages. We had requested condiments and sides for our food which never arrived. The manager handled our table because it was clear that the server was overwhelmed. It took a long time for anyone to take our order and they assumed that we weren’t ready to order when they came to our table. The ambiance was nice. Wasn’t too loud. Food was good but over priced for quality. Would recommend district commons or circa for same price range and food type in the area. Would not return unless desperate.
Made reservation but not acknowledged, so seemed like we flaked out - despite asking that the reservation be noted.
Food was not as flavorful as at Wisconsin Ave location.
We went to Cafe Deluxe on a Sunday for brunch. The food was fair and the service was poor. Waiter did not come around to refill coffee or water or to take additional drink orders. We had to find someone to bring a coffee pot. I grabbed the water pitcher from the service cart to refill waters. Husband went to bar to get mimosas refilled. It wasn't that busy, several empty tables around us and what appeared to be plenty of staff milling about. They seemed poorly trained or organized. I'd call this a management issue. It's a nice facility and could be a great neighborhood treasure but the ownership needs to step up the day to day management. I rarely give a bad review so I hope this will have a positive impact.
My steak was served at room temperature, and was not seasoned at all! Our server forgot many items, and service was very slow. They should have at least comp’ed my entree. Never again will I return.
We loved the food and service so much we went back 2 days straight!
The food was unexpectedly bad. I ordered a spinach salad wt grilled chicken. The grilled chicken had a bleak coloring of an expired meat and tasted the same. I certainly did not appreciate the serving from what looked and tasted like a previous (or older) day leftover. Will take my business lunches somewhere else.

Service was awful
Went for restaurant week during lunch time. Service was incredibly slow. Waitress was barely present. The food was delicious except the creme brulee where it was cold. Which blew my mind because you literally take a blow torch to the dish as a finishing touch. Plus when the server brought us the bill she didn't charge us the restaurant week deal and it took an extra 10 minutes for them to correct it. The food was delicious (minus my cold creme brulee) but if their service continues to be that awful, I'd never go back.
Convenient location, good dishes, servers aren't terribly happy to be there but will do a good job.
As we started our luncheon, we were told that there would be a test of the fire alarms for several minutes. This should have been done mid-morning (say 10 AM) before the place is filled with patrons. In addition, fire alarms closed the doors trapping birds inside the restaurant. Need better acoustic control, the place was maybe 75% full but very loud.
Great service, good food and decent location!
We enjoyed relative quiet on a weeknight, able to carry on a conversation without raising our voices. The classic atmosphere is similar to the original Cafe Deluxe and it remains good food for a good value.
Group of 7 colleagues met for dinner while at a conference. Great restaurant choice with many dining and beverage options. Our server, Kai, was amazing. Kind, fun, efficient!
We usually have great experiences here (I think we've been here at least a dozen times over the years). As usually, I made it clear when we arrived that I have a gluten allergy and needed the gluten-free menu, which I then ordered from. When I ordered my dinnner (a salad), I was upset to see that there were croutons on it. I let the waitress know immediately, and she sent it back, but it is concerning when a food allergy is not taken seriously.
Waitress got order wrong, took a long time to bring back correct order, had already eaten part of my meal by the time the correction was made, waitress was not very attentive, disappeared for long periods of time (although it wasn't very crowded) and seemed somewhat annoyed with our requests (paper napkins, ketchup, mustard, etc.). Food was just ok, service was slow. So slow that we had to leave without getting receipt or correct change because we were running a bit late.
The food was good, but the service was not. I’ve had better luck eating at the bar vs a table at this restaurant.
Went for breakfast for the first time in quite a while. Service was excellent, as was the food.
The service was abysmal.
The portion of tomato soup was almost non-existent. The flatbread I ordered was fine and tasty.
And I've been to this restaurant at several of its other locations on numerous occasions and at least once before at this location, but have never had an experience like this one. I don't know if I'd return to any of their locations very soon.
