Cafe Deluxe - Cleveland Park
While there is nothing that memorable or impressive about Cafe Deluxe, I would still recommend it for families looking for an affordable option to get together. The food is fine, not particularly good, nor bad. There is no real ambiance to speak of and the service was ok: a couple of our orders were messed up. If you are looking for a high-class place to go, this isn't it...but for a diner-type experience for the family, this place is perfect.
Mother's Day Weekend - and nearby graduation at AU - required more wait staff for the amount of large parties. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, but service suffered.
The food was really good and the service was amazing! My burger came out under-cooked and the staff immediately brought a new plate out. I was impressed with the food selection, customer service and that my party was able to select our own booth in the back where we could have a conversation.
I like Cafe Deluxe for brunch, but I was disappointed with dinner. The restaurant was basically empty. My meatloaf was covered in gravy. Those who ordered salmon, though, thought it was pretty good.
Haven't been to Cafe D for a long time! Went to meet a fried for a quick bite to catch up. The food was good...the atmosphere pleasant enough. But I tell you, the wait staff and servers really need to step up their game! Always slow and never very personable!
Despite being there early, the service was very slow and wait staff was inattentive.
We like Cafe Deluxe, but .... It can be uneven. Yesterday evening, my wife’s entree was good. (Steak frites). Mine, not so much. I ordered ahi tuna Nicoise. The tuna arrived rare, as I had requested, but it lacked taste. Nothing bad about it, but lacking in taste is not an endorsement.
We’ve had quite a few good meals at Cafe Deluxe and looked forward to our visit yesterday. We hope that this one dish was an aberration.
I had fond memories of Cafe Deluxe, but those memories must have been clouded by nostalgia. My party of four had four poor-to-average main dishes, including a plate of undercooked green beans. The noise level was high, our waiter was uninterested, and the only truly enjoyable portion of the meal was the dessert. Overall a disappointment.
Relaxed ambience with a full menu with something for everyone. Family and larger group friendly.
Noise level on the patio on an early May evening was conversation-friendly. Server John was most accommodating and cheerfully brewed us a new batch of coffee when the first tasted old and cold.
Yasser is an outstanding, kind server. The food is always consistently good!!!
Excellent place to dine before or after an event at the National Cathedral.
The whole reason for me to order Eggs Benedict is for the Hollandaise... while the ham was very good, there was barely a scant tablespoon of the sauce on top.
A fabulous brunch place! The food was delicious. The beignets are a MUST! Excellent French toast, breakfast potatoes, and omelettes. Great neighborhood dining in a laid back atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Perfect for a last-minute date night. The menu selections were varied enough to include seasonal offerings and familiar standbys. The asparagus-pasta special should be come a regular addition to the menu - it was balanced and light.
After Easter services. Booked this months ago. Ended up in back room, table for 7. They were evidently overbooked/understaffed because the service was terrible.
Almost an Hour to get drinks. Had to get paper towels from restroom because no napkins for a while.
Waiter very harassed— seeming but his concern was all for himself—never apologized.
Food good when it finally came, but one diner had to wait a considerable time.for their dish.
No manager ever stopped by to explain.
Festive occasion long planned, real shame. Left feeling We we’re lucky we got fed at all.
Good food, great location, staff was nice! I would definitely recommend!
Overall a fair experience. Peach “sangria” was just peach juice with grenadine and schnapps I guess. No fresh fruit or wine taste as I’d expect. Food was very mediocre. The salmon Benedict was mushy though the description sounded delicious. The fresh fruit that comes with most brunch dishes was not very fresh and in a very tiny container - seemed like an afterthought. Wait staff was inattentive and not very welcoming. Scene was poor too. Definitely won’t come back as there are much better options in the area!!
The food was great and the service was absolutely fantastic. The chicken pot pie and the best I've ever had as is the porter burger! I will definitely be back!
This is our neighborhood "go to" spot for easy, casual, comfortable, affordable dining. The food is good. The noise level allows for easy conversation. It is the place we take visiting family and friends when we just don't want to cook but aren't wanting to be fanatical about the food. That said, I've never been disappointed by the food here.
After waiting for 45 minutes, there was no sign of the food we had ordered and we had not even received the drinks we had also ordered. We had to leave without eating, otherwise we would have been late for a concert. Afterwards, we met other people who had had the same expereiece as we did.
We sat down. Waited for 15 minutes. Ordered an appetizer, dinner and a glass of wine. Another 20 minutes went by. Finally caught the waitress’ attention, cancelled the appetizer and made it clear we were trying to make a concert. Another 20 minutes later, still no food... no glass of wine... and we left. Hungry.
My food was tasteless and the service was abysmal. We waited half an hour for dinner, our plates were never cleared. We waited 20 minutes for the desert menu and almost half an hour for desert. We left before getting the desert because we had been so long at the restaurant-over an hour and a half- and somewhere else we needed to be.
I'm a major fan of Cafe Deluxe, especially Cleveland Park. The menu is varied, full of something for everyone of every age. I especially recommend the creative cocktails. I like so many of the menu items I don't even know where to start -- the Porter Burger is outstanding, as are so many of the salads and fish dishes.
Love the atmosphere and the service. Food was great and served in a timely manner.
I have eaten at Cafe Deluxe in Cleveland Park probably a thousand times over the course of its existence. It is the go-to place for parents of the local schools. I hadn't been in a while, and while it is its old reliable self in terms of food, it is TIRED. Shabby chic it is not. It is time for a close and a re-do -- the bathrooms are tired, the floor of the restaurant is a disaster, and it needs a good coat of paint. The ladies room air system sounds like a Boeing 747 is going to take off in that small space. No one likes to risk closing, especially in such a competitive market, but it is more than worn around the edges.
Good job. Keep up the always great service and the always great food.
Wish that we had arrived earlier due to the noise levels during the peak of brunch.
Not my first visit and certainly will not be my last! Always a pleasure to dine at Café Deluxe. Our waiter Thomas arranged two grey goose martinis that were crafted to perfection. I started with the three onion soup, a real delight and my date had the tomato soup. She had the ahi tuna cooked rare like she requested and I had the crispy fish sandwich with fries. Topped the evening off with two single espressos. Service was timely and polite.
If all locations were as good as this Cafe Deluxe, life would be perfect. Ariel the hostess.manager(?) is beyond great. The service staff are all pros. The food is done right EVERY time (not the case in other locations. Tysons is pretty good, but the M Street location is erratic at best. In all fairness, I haven't been there in months).
Cafe Deluxe CLEVELAND PARK is indeed a neighborhood gem. I love this place.
excellent customer service. two of us enjoyed our meals but one person ordered eggs benedict and did not like the hollandaise sauce used on eggs. Aside from that issue, overall a good experience
Always a favorite for weekend brunch, dinner at Cafe D is also a pleasure. New item: NY Strip Steak w. baked potato and green beans (in addition to their traditional steak frites) is very good. Crispy fish sandwich is also a new entree and is also very good. The shrimp poor boy has some great shrimp, but could use a better (perhaps softer, less "bready") sub roll. Their salmon entree is good. Service is always very good. Prices are right, too.
Our server, Thomas, was fantastic! He’s a pro. He made the evening a more enjoyable one. He’s a keeper!!!
Food was really tasty! We really enjoyed ourselves. We went on a Monday night, and they had $19 bottles of wine which was great! Would definitely go back if we are in the area or recommend to a friend.
It's a good place with average food and menu. Not a place to choose if you want something special. Convenient for events at the Cathedral.
Went for Happy Hour and dinner. Great service and food.
Had a lovely dinner with friends on a Sunday night. Thanks to our waiter Thomas for his friendly and great service!
We chose the restaurant because of its proximity to the National Cathedral where we were attending a concert. It is the closest restaurant so we were able to park at the cathedral and walk over. The restaurant does not have its own parking and street parking is limited. The ambiance is great - clubby, all American style. The waiters were quite attentive and chatty. The food portions were not generous and the menu offerings were not very daring. The quality of food was fine and we had no negatives but not a great many positives about the food. It was rather neutral and probably not worth a revisit unless we needed to be in proximity of the cathedral again.
Our waiter Thomas as very good and engaging.
I hadn’t been to Café Deluxe in many years and was somewhat disappointed. The menu seemed more limited than I remember. My cousins and I all found something we enjoyed—the special crispy oysters were quite good—but we were taken aback by a couple of things. The bread appeared to be day-old and been warmed to the point where the crust was so hard it was barely penetrable. In a lesser restaurant we would have passed this off, but I expected better of Café Deluxe. The wine was also an issue. I am very aware of markups and expect them, but a bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc for $52 is/was insulting. We ultimately ordered a bottle of Italian Pinot Grigio and three glasses. We got three glasses of wine and no bottle. There was an apology but no real accommodation. It may be several years before I go back. As it is a neighborhood restaurant, I regret that.
