mussels not as good as I recall; frites not crisp enough.
A great romantic place to eat with exceptional food!
Hadn't been in years. The ambiance and atmosphere is a main reason why I choose this spot. The food has always been consistently good. However, this time I was disappointed in the french onion soup, which I always order. It wasn't as good as I remember. Everything else was great, especially the creme brulee', which I have always said is the best anywhere.
A perfect meal, great service and wonderful atmosphere. Thank you!
The restaurant was closed. My reservation was for noon and I did not receive the message on voice mail until the evening. So we went to the restaurant and found it closed
Wonderful service and great meal!
We sat outside, listening to the live music. Our entrees were delicious and served at the right temperature. We shared a bottle of wine, priced appropriately, some cocktails, desserts and after dinner drinks, all were great. The creme brûlée was excellent.
Our server Sarah was fabulous
Delicious brunch items; service was good & we did not wait very long for our order.
Place never disappoints. Was great
This is one of our favorite places in town.
The early seating at 5:30 let us enjoy the foot traffic on Esplanade, a nice dusk, and get on to a great Ricky Graham play at Rivertown.
Cafe Degas is one the best in New Orleans and one of our favorite. Food always great and service is always spot on.
Perfect open-room dining to celebrate during COVID. We felt safe and enjoyed everything so much.
Food is delicious, but service is spotty. We had to wait on everything we ordered. We went for restaurant week but were not offered the special. We had to ask for it. We waited for refill on wine at least 15 minutes. The escargot was brought without bread. We had to ask for bread twice. By the time it got there, the escargot was cold. I never saw a manager checking on tables or service. We probably will not return. There are too many other great places with much better service. When I pay $144 for 2 people before tip, I expect good service.
We eat here routinely, but not frequently. Over the years the experience is always fantastic and each time, we wonder why we don't go more often!
Their menu is now more limited than pre-Covid.
Server seemed very out of his depth, perhaps very new to his position. He was polite, but whomever his superiors are ought to refresh his training as far as steps of service, ordering, and general demeanor. While I understand that service is very hard when you are wearing a mask, some major issues made my birthday dinner very awkward and sometimes even unpleasant. Dishes were not coursed properly, silverware was not replaced between courses, waters rarely refilled, and when it came time to present my birthday cake, he had absolutely no idea that there even was one. The kitchen did not cut or plate the cake for us, candles were never used. Entree dishes weren’t cleared from the table when the server brought the entire cake out, in its box, and asked if we “wanted to cut it ourselves or...?” Just an incredibly disappointing experience for my 30th birthday.
We had a lovely brunch at Cafe Degas on Sunday. We all had Eggs Benedict with appetizers. Delicious. Great service.
Great! Felt safe!
I absolutely love this place, but I’m not sure what was up with the waiter today. There were very few tables due to restrictions and still we had to go get him a few times and get our own salt/pepper and would have ordered more drinks but he was nowhere to be found or was always with his back towards us. Other tables in the restaurant actually made comments to us also when we had to get up to get our own things about how awful the waiter was. I split the bill with someone who refused to leave more than 15% but I come here all the time so I wound up leaving the difference of my 20% plus theirs. I’ve had this waiter before and he was bad but never this bad. Hopefully he just had a rough night but he’s honestly never great. The food was still good though I don’t find anywhere is the same as it was before COVID. BUt as always the ambiance of this restaurant wins me over and whisks me away to a little tucked away cafe in France. Unless something really egregious happens, this will always be my go to weekend lunch spot.
Cafe Degas is one of our favorite places! It has superb food and lovely ambiance. It’s like a little trip to Paris. The quiche is always delicious!
Had to wait 20 minutes, but at least there were benches outside for the elderly people in the party.
Bloody Mary -AMAZING. French Onion Soup-fabulous! Hangar steak-not all pieces were cooked medium-some overcooked, and veggies were underdone & underseasoned, such as the big chunks of carrots. Entrees were not hot whatsoever, and became cool quickly- not fun for the Eggs Benedict.
Crem Brûlée- stupendous! Overall lovely experience though, and server was great!
The ongoing hurricane weather has led to shrinkage. Everything was great as usual but two dishes were about half of their usual volume. Otherwise, staff and taste were up to the standards degas have made for themselves.
Everyone was very nice and helpful. The vichyssoise was amazing as always and both lobster and crab salads was nice and light. My mom’s English muffins did come out burnt initially (not a little to scrape off but totally blackened). We informed the waiter, and a new plate was quickly brought to replace it. We always enjoy dining with Cafe Degas and will return again soon.
Cafe Degas is one of our absolute favorites! It’s delicious and consistent quality!
nice breeze flowing through the restaurant and a relaxing, enjoyable dinner ensued.
the bayou st. john and martini began the small plate dominated fare crisply. the always sublime escargots and vichyssoise along with the french onion soup were perfect choices for the reduced menu offerings. something i hadn't seen before at CD was the poached lobster tail. frankly the best example of this relatively bland effort was the nicely shaved asparagus and carrot garnishings. the larger preparation was the veal dish paneed with a delicious sauce and greens. the shrimp and mushroom ravioli were done in a wonton paper wrapping and were the top dish this night. we finished with one of the better lemon ice box pies around.
the beauty of cafe degas is that each experience there reminds you of the reasons that you love to go out to dinner
Such a comfortable place to go for high quality French cuisine.
Subpar service. Decent food but nothing stunning. Comfortable outdoor tables. Crab cheesecake was best thing in the meal. French onion soup was worst part.
We absolutely love Cafe Degas.. one of our go - to places for special occasions or „just because“. This was the first time we were deeply disappointed with the service we received. Albeit pleasant, our waiter was not attentive in the least. The food was awesome ( as always) but the awful service made us forgo a second drink and desert.
My daughter and I walked in, were seen and ignored for maybe five minutes. People were helped who came in after us first, still not greeted sitting on the chairs in the front. Finally get a waiters attention and am taken to a table and left for a good amount of time without taking a drink order. The waitress was short and disappeared for good bits of time. Our appetizers were placed in front of us and she left immediately although we were ready to order. The French onion soup was scalding the entire meal and was watery. The quiche was bland and the hangar steak was just ok ... the mojito was good. $78 wasn’t worth the meal or service. Cute restaurant but never brunch again.
Solid classic French bistro fare
Always a great experience, food is delicious and the ambiance is relaxing. Very reasonable.
great for a date night, we had a very nice time as always!
Always a delight. Consistent quality. I would recommend certainly.
Long time fan of Cafe Degas I was concerned about what we would find mid-pandemic. Other than a reduced menu (no skimping on deserts though!) It had variety and many of the old stand bys and favorites. Our waiter was most enjoyable, the food delicious and a good time was had by all.
Great server & food was on par with the excellent service
Celebrated my birthday with my little family. Such a perfect evening!
Lovely! Beautiful ambiance & delicious food!
It was a very pleasant dinner. Social distancing was adhered to.
Can’t believe it took me this long to finally get to this jewel. Wonderful total experience. Food was uniquely delicious . Great date night venue. Will be back soon.
