Charming little place with an interesting history, good food, and very personable service
It is always a pleasure to dine at Cafe Degas. The service is attentive and the food is always of excellent quality and presentation. A wonderful jewel.
Excellent. Favorite place.
Great as always.
This was the best dining experience I can remember. Our server Jonathan was super helpful and attentive, even researching on the internet to get an answer to an irrelevant food question we had.
Because there were so many enticing choices on the menu, we got 5 items off the appetizer section, including escargot, flash fried oysters, crawfish ravioli, and the best French onion soup ever, along with the veal medallions entree, all to share among 4 people. We washed that all down with a couple of the best desserts ever -chocolate decadence and the floating island (I know, we’re pigs, but we didn’t waste a thing.) It was all reasonably priced for such quality tastes. It’s only our first night in New Orleans, but this will be hard to top.
Merci for spending your first evening in New Orleans with us, Scott. We hope to see you again soon.
I love Coolinary August/September dining in NOLA!!!! The value is off the chart and the early dining is divine. Cafe Degas meets my expectations every year.
Merci Beaucoup. We love hearing how much you enjoy us and that we met your expectations. Reviens bientôt.
Loved the food, restaurant and hostess. Wait staff was great but felt rushed.
Very good food and the atmosphere was relaxing. Wait staff was exceptional! Bravo ! I would definitely go again!
We are so happy to hear we made you happy. Merci.
Great visit! Look forward to coming back!
Merci for the review. We look forward to your next visit too.
Great ambiance and food
Always one of my favorite restaurants! food was amazing as usual!
We love being one of your favorites, Marvin. Merci Beaucoup!
We had a lovely dinner with a last minute reservation
Merci, Gary for coming in. We're so happy you were able to make a reservations and enjoyed.
The quail salad was very bitter. It was difficult to eat. The quail was delicious. The greens were bitter and tasted a bit spoiled
Merci. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the quail. We have had no other complaints about the salad but we appreciate your feedback.
Such a cute location. The service was very accommodating. The food was excellent as always. Coolinary menu helped keep the cost down.
We are so happy to hear you enjoyed. Merci for your kind review.
Well prepared continental (French) food. Good service. So/so ambience.
The veal medallions were not nearly as good as in the past.
Merci for the feedback. We hope to see you again soon and get everything perfect next time.
The August "Coolinary" lunch was delicious. Very busy with lots of happy diners, even a bit overcrowded. Prosciutto and melon salad was beautiful as well as tasty. Chicken Clemenceau with snow peas was a treat. I haven't ever been therre for dinner , but will be looking forward to another lunch with friends.
Merci Beaucoup. We look forward to your dinner visit.
It is one of my favorite restaurants. I always enjoy dining there.
Its really good. I just wish there were more menu selections.
Merci, we are happy you enjoyed. We always have both a daily menu and our regular menus. We hope you saw both.
This neighborhood spot never disappoints. Anyone traveling to New Orleans should stop here to get a little France with a slice of New Orleans thrown on top.
I trave in France extensively and can testify that you feel you are both in France and in New Orleans eveytime you dine here! The staff is impeccable and the restaurant is kooky and tres chic.
Merci Beaucoup, for your many kind words.
Very good food enhanced by incredible service and a super cute atmosphere. Would definitely return.
Amazing my girl was so impressed we had a great time
Meal over cooked. Bread so tough & hard —inedible. Asked for replacement & was told they had no other bread.
Thank you for your feedback. We hate to hear we didn't impress you more.
Always delicious and atmospheric. Brought friends from the UK last year and they are still raving about it.
One of my favorite places in New Orleans
Merci Beaucoup, Darry. We love hearing you brought your friends and that we made them happy.
Everything was fantastic. Had the Softshell crab special, which was fried to perfection. The crawfish ravioli with mushrooms was delicious and light. The pasta of the ravioli was hand made and paper thin. The crabmeat cheesecake appetizer was delicate, rich and delicious. We had to dip up the sauce with bread because it was too good to waste. For dessert we had the crepes Suzette, which was outstanding as always. Truly a wonderful meal and service was top notch. Looking forward to next time.
Merci, Cory, for the lovely review. We look forward to your next visit.
De gosh it was good!!!!
The bread provided was cold and the butter was served in packets. Kind of cheap. Coolinary menu was good.
Thank you for your feedback, James. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the Coolinary menu.
Great vibe. Went with friends. There was no rush which was nice. I've been here countless times and anticipate many more memories and meals here.
Merci for your lovely review, Whitney. We look forward to serving you many more meals to come.
Every time I go to that restaurant I feel like I’m in a treehouse. There is a tree in the middle of the dining room. The main dining area has wooden floors that look like a deck, there are windows all around enclosing the restaurant. There are large great oak trees are covering the area. Yet somehow with the fresh flowers, candle light on every table with white tablecloth’s there is an air of elegance. The food is exquisite with a French style cuisine. It is a interesting and unique experience that I would recommend to anybody. The dessert menu is also amazing.
It's so lovely how you describe us. Merci Beaucoup. Reviens bientôt.
Love this place. So casual and welcoming, but the service is on par with the finest restaurants. My softshell crab was a little overcooked, and the escargot a little different (did they switch to a lesser grade of butter?) and for the life of me I don't understand why they don't serve decent bread (like Mr. B's for example). After your greeting and beverage, the bread is your first taste of the restaurant (and it's a bad one) I'm older, so I don't particularly care for staff with green hair and piercings, but I guess that's just the style today. (Only a couple of staff this way). Overall, I always come back here because it's such a convivial place to enjoy with family and friends, and you always leave feeling well fed and well treated.
Merci for your feedback, Timothy. We are happy to hear we keep you coming back.
I’m never disappointed. The food is imaginative and served piping hot. I love the cozy atmosphere.
Merci Beaucoup. We are so happy you enjoyed.
Amazing yet relaxed at every level. Great place for any reason... We had the kids with us and were pleasantly surprised how mud they enjoyed it too. Sara, our super attentive and friendly waitress made us feel like an honored guest in her home. We won't ever miss the opportunity to return when in New Orleans. Another plus? It's in a beautiful peaceful New Orleans neighborhood. Uber back to the fun chaos of Bourbon St after an exquisite meal at Cafe Degas!
Merci, Kevin. We are so happy you and your family had such a great time with us. We look forward to your next visit.
Wonderful place to dine and enjoy f=the company of family and friends.
Gus is always such a pleasure to have as our server when we dine at Cafe Degas.
Merci, Eppie. There is nothing we love more than to hear we made you happy.
Charming French restaurant with lots of delicious choices.
Merci Beaucoup, Betsy.
Daughters birthday lunch. Everything was outstanding. Will definitely go back.
We are so happy to hear it. Merci for celebrating your daughter's birthday with us.
Lovely, beautiful restaurant. The food is consistently good, the service excellent and the ambiance delightful. You never feel rushed and their cocktails are fabulous. My very favorite restaurant!
Merci for your very kind words, Sharon.
Birthday lunch with a friend. Everything was lovely.
1. The COOLINARY menu was very limited. and not worth the $20 charged.
2.The Vichysoisse was EXTREMELY salty and what looked like olive oil was added to it before or at serving. I was not able to eat the V. and told the server that it was too salty. She said that they would bring me the other choice for Culinary appetizer (Melon with Ham), which was not brought until the second course was served.
3.Ambiance was "strange" in that the wait staff were all dressed in "latest style" - pie and green hair and body piercings on just about everyone.
4. We had eaten at Cafe Degas in the past and it has changed for the worse. I will not go back to Cafe Degas.
Hi Jules, we're surprised by your review. If you look at the Coolinary menus at most restaurants in town they offer the same number of choices as ours do, so we are disappointed to hear you felt it was limited. As far as ambiance, we've always taken great pride in offering fine dining in a casual atmosphere.
I have enjoyed Café Dega since the 80's my experience yesterday was average which is not why I go there. Company in town so we went for Brunch. Upon seating we had to request the heavy metal music be changed several times. I guess they forget from cleaning up the night before? Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's were ordered and after our toast we all took sips and then looked at each other. Bloody Mary's were funky tasting so we went to the bar and asked for some ingredients to fix them. Typical stuff like horseradish, Lea n Perrins, celery salt, other. Turns out they had no ingredients because they are made from a premade product out of a plastic jug; nothing any of us had even hear of...Assumed the orange juice was the same off brand quality and just left things alone. They offered the bloody marys at no cost which was nice but we didn't really finish any of the drinks...Sorry, I did order another cocktail which was OK. Three of the 4 plates were amazing. The eggs with corned beef very sad...Sweet Potatoes were undercooked, corned beef chunks were overcooked and chewy, and kale was so bitter it ruined the whole meal, water or liquid at bottom of plate was flavorless and not needed. Ate what I could and didn't mention after the fiasco concerning the drinks. Not sure what's going on but hoping it gets better...Tim
One of the negatives is that they ran out of soft shell crab. We managed quite well otherwise, but how do you run out that item? Other than that, great place, great food, great drinks.
Merci. We're happy to hear you enjoyed. We apologize for running out of crab. Our dishes are made from fresh locally sourced ingredients and therefor we do sometimes run out. We do hope to see you again soon so we can get everything perfect next time.
