This was our second visit to Cafe de la Presse. Unfortunately, the menu was limited, the food cold and without much interest. The crab cake was nice but accompanied by a rectangle of squash. The onion soup was nice but not very rich. The halibit came from a steam table. The mussels were cold with a cream sauce and apple? A nice piece of cheese was served with a romaine lettuce leaf and garlic bread toast? The atmosphere reminded me of a French bistro, but the food was unforgettable (bad).

When I made the reservation, I requested a table in a certain location downstairs where it is quieter. We were seated elsewhere and were very unhappy about how noisy it was. I asked the waiter to change our table to the location I had originally requested, and he did so willingly. However, it seems like a waste of time to ask customers to make specific requests if they are not going to be read and honored. Other than the table, the food and the waiter were good.

The food was just ok. The salad was too cold, like it was made hours ago and put in the cooler for too long. The crocque madame was small and too thick with sauce. I wanted home fries but they insisted it was an upcharge over the regular french fries - seems odd and cheap on their part as other patrons were enjoying their real potatoes. I would have liked to have been offered mustard or harissa, 2 hallmarks of classic french restaurants, to go with my my breakfast. In the end, it is more style than substance here - an expensive yet mediocre meal.

Afterwards, we saw our friends sitting outside. We joined them and they waited as multiple tables sat after them were served and completed their meals. The service was so slow and the food, again, was not special at all. It only takes a little attention to make ok food better, mostly the knowledge of the staff, and a committed ownership who will invest on good products and training

I cannot wait to visit this spot again. The food was fantastic and very authentic French style. Everything about the restaurant, especially the sidewalk seating, made you feel like you were in a bistro in France. I particularly enjoyed the pastries. The service was great, too.

Quaint, French and good atmosphere. My wife and I took my parents for Sunday Brunch. We had a reservation and arrived on time and we had to wait for 15 minutes. That was off putting. A bit pricey and a very limited menu.

Terrible service and experience. We're regulars here, and dine here frequently. We live across the street. Despite many open tables, we were wedged into a table very close to other diners. Too noisy to speak to each other. During my dinner, the waiter dumped my drink into my food and offered me a free desert. I opted to have my medium rare steak replaced which arrived well done. When I objected, the waiter was upset. When I asked for the check, they charged me for the over done steak. Really?

The service was terrible we waited over 35 minutes for a second course. the duck confit was cooked to death and dry as a stick. the wine list didn't have any bottles on it only Wines By The glass. we had to ask for a separate wine list which took 10 minutes to get there. the overall experience was ghastly. I'll never go back here again in my life.

Delicious salads, egg dishes, and burger/fries for a lunch get together with friends! I will definitely be back to try more dishes... We literally had a hard time deciding what to get b/c we liked more than one salad. Great ingredients, flavoring, plating... the service and ambience were just right... and we were well protected from the Santa Con crowd, but the windows definitely allow for great people watching. The only surprising aspect was the 2 bathrooms but they were roomy and handicap accessible, so I suppose that is better than multiple tiny stalls. Would DEFINITELY go again -- and would be happy to bring parents, family, sig others/dates, and friends for special or casual occasions!

The Benedict was tasteless and the eggs barely cooked. That made sense as my order came out about 3 minutes after it was put in. Bloody Mary was mediocre at best. Other people were seated who came after me and didn't have a reservation, while I had one and was ignored. 10 minutes to get a glass of water as staff was too busy clearing tables. For the price, I was expecting at least something better than average and with unique ingredients. So many other places out there that do offer great food and service.

I found an item I really like and it's new - the Chicken Tarragon salad. IT's DELICIOUS. I have always liked the ambience and convenience (near sutter/Stockton garage), now I also have a favorite food item. I do have friends who won't come anymore since the half chicken and fries was removed from the menu! It's a bit pricey, but very nice and casual.

Steak frites was great as was the onion soup. Our server Kani was wonderful, great knowledge of the wine menu and was excellent at making recommendations for wines as my girlfriend and I aren't very knowledgeable when it comes to wine. Would definitely recommend to others.

A charming atmosphere reminiscent of a true French bistro, Café de la Presse was so wonderful that we enjoyed lunch and dinner there in a two-day period. The take-away bar in the front was also very fun for those who want a quick brioche to go. Service was efficient and professional as one would expect. We will definitely return to Café de la Presse during our next trip to San Francisco's Union Square.

In France this dinner would have been half the price, but I'm not complaining - the frisee salad was a nice size, very authentic, fresh, and the bavette et frites was quite respectable, nothing earthshaking, but good, and the bread was quite good - something a french restaurant must get right. So, all in all, it was a meal I would expect to get from a local parisian bistro, maybe not so pricy except this was DT SF. It was good. Not bad, not great, but good.

Food and ambiance were great as always. But the service was off. Our waiter rarely checked on us, then took a break. Nobody checked on us at all during this time for water, cocktails or anything else.

We have been to this place many times and look forward to going back. However, on this visit, we had a waiter that was not paying attention and messed up our order several times. Brought the wrong items, finally delivered drinks after we were finished with the meal and over-charged us on the bill. Food was very good as usual and the manager on duty tried to pickup some of the slack. Nothing is ever perfect but this experience was notably bad strictly because of one person.

Went for a 1PM lunch on a Friday and had been offered a limited brunch only menu and their Friday special was not available. Had I known that I would have made reservation somewhere else.
Brunch was 50 percent more than other places.

We have been to cafe de la presse many times over the years both for Thanksgiving & Christmas, and this year the service was terrible. First we were crammed in a table in a corner that was so wobbly they could not get it stableized, so they finally had to wait for another 2 top to open & move us, then everything was so slow & they continued to forget items, they could not provide my Bellini beverage, we had to constantly ask for more water & ice, they just seemed overwhelmed. Food was delicious, but service was horrible.

It was Thanksgiving. The place was jam packed and the room was stifling hot. The staff was friendly but the demands on them were great. They did the best they could. The food was good but not great. The best course was the turkey. It was flavorful and extremely tender. I love Cafe Zoe La Presse but holiday special menu meals are difficult to pull off and it’s not fair to judge a restaurant by such a busy time.

Thanksgiving dinner with friends. Nice table and good service knowing that they had started serving around noon and maybe a little tired. Might have turned the fans up a bit as it was warm. Food was really good, moist turkey, excellent flavor on stuffing, the soup was really good. Large serving

Our service was very disorganized. Several waitstaff asked us about drink orders after we had ordered. The 4 drink orders took a very long time to arrive. The merlot that was ordered turned out as a Zinfandel. The Pinot I ordered certainly wasn’t a Pinot and the deliverer didn’t know which was which or what was what and just said they were French.

Upscale ladies lunch. Delicious butternut squash soup and lardon salad, Bellini, x 2, cappuccino and tea came out to $126 with tip. A little more than I wanted to spend, but very enjoyable. Bread and butter included, generous portions, attentive service, authentic french bistro atmosphere. I would return.

When we arrived the maitre d' started to talk to us and then took a phone call which ended up being a personal one. We stood for several minutes when someone else noticed us standing there not looking happy and seated us. We had a total of 40 seconds of interaction with the waitstaff. Second time in the last two months we have gone in and this is the level of service we received. The food is good, but not worth the price with such minimal customer service. We wont go again unless we hear there are changes.

We had dinner at Cafe de la Presse upon the recommendation of our hotel concierge. The presentation was a step above a French bistro with the presentation being especially appealing. The quality of the food was uneven with the appetizer surpassing the entree in taste and quality of ingredients. The dessert was superb. I think the restaurant is within reach of a high standard, but just falling short of the mark at present.
