If you are vegan, you will starve if you go here. For brunch our options were fruit, potatoes and toast. They definitely are not vegan friendly.

Our service was very disorganized. Several waitstaff asked us about drink orders after we had ordered. The 4 drink orders took a very long time to arrive. The merlot that was ordered turned out as a Zinfandel. The Pinot I ordered certainly wasn’t a Pinot and the deliverer didn’t know which was which or what was what and just said they were French.

Upscale ladies lunch. Delicious butternut squash soup and lardon salad, Bellini, x 2, cappuccino and tea came out to $126 with tip. A little more than I wanted to spend, but very enjoyable. Bread and butter included, generous portions, attentive service, authentic french bistro atmosphere. I would return.

When we arrived the maitre d' started to talk to us and then took a phone call which ended up being a personal one. We stood for several minutes when someone else noticed us standing there not looking happy and seated us. We had a total of 40 seconds of interaction with the waitstaff. Second time in the last two months we have gone in and this is the level of service we received. The food is good, but not worth the price with such minimal customer service. We wont go again unless we hear there are changes.

We had dinner at Cafe de la Presse upon the recommendation of our hotel concierge. The presentation was a step above a French bistro with the presentation being especially appealing. The quality of the food was uneven with the appetizer surpassing the entree in taste and quality of ingredients. The dessert was superb. I think the restaurant is within reach of a high standard, but just falling short of the mark at present.

We like the atmosphere at Cafe de la Presse, and service is fast. My salad Nicoise was a little disappointing this time - the dressing was dull, but the onion soup was lovely, and the sandwich quite nice.

We had the Price Fix menu all three courses were delicious. We’ve been on a two week tour of California and have had fine meals at fine restaurants all along the way. This was the best!

This used to be a wonderful place -- I remember it from 10, maybe even 20 years ago: now, not so much. (It used to be very French; this time I spent my meal facing a football game on the TV.) We made a reservation for dinner on Sunday evening, where we learned that, well, they didn't really have dinner per se on Sundays, but instead offered a limited menu. Also, seating was in the bar area, not in the more comfortable dining room. We had counted on this to be a lovely dinner on our last night in San Francisco: it was a disappointment.

Cafe de la Presse is step into the micro world of a classic French cafe, replete with all of the usual suspects. The menu is genuine, and all served with flair and timelessness. Full of busy lives, but no rush. Great for a personal or romantic stop, or business lunch.

We were greeted warmly. Had an outstanding waitress. Love the food and liveliness of restaurant. Try to sit on entrance level for more activity. Overall a neat experience.

I have wanted to get over to Café de la Presse for ages to sample their pan bagna. My husband and I both work downtown and met here for lunch. It felt so away from the usual financial district lunch spots packed with tech bros (sorry, tech bros). The restaurant has a charming atmosphere; white cloths on the dining room tables (there is outdoor seating, café seating and the rear dining area), and full service. The pan bagna did not disappoint; the bread was fresh and light, and the traditional ingredients (tuna, egg, greens, tomato) were generously layered and fresh as well. That and strong, bottomless iced tea guarantees I'll be back. True to its name, the restaurant still features racks of newspapers (far fewer these declining days of the daily press) and collections of international magazines. The one thing I did not enjoy was the soundtrack of strident French rock music, which I found jarring in the otherwise serene, open-windowed environment. I'd like to return for the weekend brunch.

The food was good. But I have to say the "price for performance" was not as good as it could be. That is to say, a little expensive for the type of food. $21 for a lunch salad

Although we chose only 2 out of 3 items off the 44 dollar menu we were charged full a la carte prices which came to more than 44! As this was only a few dollars we did not complain but in principle reflected this in a slightly lower tip! Good and service otherwise good and surprised place was so quiet

Food was ok and service was ok. I went there for lunch on a weekend but they didn't have their lunch menu. I guess on weekends they only have a brunch menu, which , to me, wasn't that interesting.

Breakfast/Brunch when spending the day in Union Square, this is our go-to option, right next to the parking garage, and great French breakfast options. The service was a bit slow, but the food is excellent! Sit in the dining room if you want a bit more space, but we found the cafe tables to be just fine for our two plates.

We were lucky not to have a lot of tourists clogging the entrance or causing a long wait, but we have been there are the wrong time too.

I am always satisfied when I dine at Cafe de la Presse. Service is as swift or as casual as you need and there is hardly a wait for a table, even during busy times. A favorite spot for a meal whenever I am visiting from out of town.

Don't expect to be greeted at the door with a friendly welcome, you'll be doing well to get the attention of the three or four wait staff who look you in the eye and promptly turn around to make sure they don't acknowledge you. It doesn't matter if you are stylishly dressed, a male or female - it's apparent they are too big for their pants.

Salmon benedict had a lovely Hollandaisse sauce and eggs were perfectly poached. However the salmon was right out of the very cold refrigerator which spoiled the dish. The potatoes were yummy!

Our service was flat out haute-y, inattentive, slow and forgetful. Another couple left before their meal because the service was so poor. He complained to the manager stating he was a waiter himself and had never seen service so inattentive.

We ordered 2 chocolate croissants for the table, the waiter confirmed the order and never brought them. The Americanos were superb, but went cold while waiting for another round of drinks for our party to arrive so I could get the cream. I had asked for it when I ordered the expresso. Seemed to be difficult for them to get a soda and a plain coffee to the table too. It came much after our drinks.

I had no knife, but the waiter didn't bother to check back with us until I was almost done eating.

We left a note on the receipt hoping they'll get their act together

I had Pan Bagna - exquisite - so delicious and reminiscent of Paris. Fun to eat. I had french fries. My friend ordered the omelet. Both did not disappoint. Plus apricot tart. Was there for over an hour. No one rushed us but made sure our water glasses were filled.

We arrived early for our 6:00 pm reservation and waited to be seated in an empty restaurant. We were advised promptly that the published special of roast chicken was only availble for one person as they only had three servings left and one had been earmarked for a regular customer who had it every Monday ... hmm?!?! The portions were fine but my roast duck was over done, and came with nothing but the sauce. I would never recommend this restaurant ... there are way too many exceptional places to dine in SFO ... do not suffer through this ordeal.
