Cafe Cluny Ratings and Reviews
What a great meal at Cafe Cluny. I had wanted to go for a few years now, and even with my high expectations, it did not disappoint. The service was impeccable, and every aspect of the meal was delicious. Seriously cannot think of anything that could have been improved. Both of our appetizers were surprising and tasty, the entrees were classics done extremely well, with irresistible fries, and oh my gosh, the profiteroles. We left full but not overly-stuffed, nothing was too greasy. More places should be like Cafe Cluny!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The neighborhood is fantastic (Greenwich Village) and their prix fixe is an exceptional value. I hesitate to recommend it only because I like it so much and I want it to keep it to myself. Reminiscent of a French bistro with some original twists (my mussels, for example, were flavored with ginger and lemongrass)...
This restaurant will not seat you if your entire party is not there. It was a very stormy day and one person in out party was stuck in dead stop traffic. We were willing to go ahead and eat and order a meal take away for our friend. But the restaurant still would not seat us. They had a very arrogant attitude. This used to be a go-to neighborhood spot for me near my apartment - but no longer...
Great setting but lackluster service, a not yet ready for prime type kinda thing. Food fine, not exceptional. Yet the place has so much potential, esp since you can go there in the afternoon, get a great cocktail, glass of wine, appetizer, and really lounge. Also, great potential given its sister restaurants. Why doesn't this place 'sing' the way Odeon or Cafe Luxembourg does?
My stepdaughter and her wife moved into the neighborhood for a six-month stay for business (she's a noted film editor) and we were proud to both host them for dinner and introduce them to what we expect to become their new favorite neighborhood bistro. They come from Los Angeles and Paris, and they know good food - they loved the ambience and dinners and dessert were a big hit. This was a special occasion as they had never met my partner. The service was wonderful - they let us linger over dinner - and everything was perfect. Cafe Cluny even accommodated my table request.
I had informed the hostess that I was going on a first date and I wanted it to go well. They went above and beyond from the moment we walked into the restaurant. If you need a lot of space, it is a little bit inconvenient. Classic NYC restaurant in a small space but the food was outstanding. I had a beet salad and duck breast both were missed when finished!
Used to be one of my neighborhood favorites. After our recent experience, unlikely to go back. The staff forgot to fire one of our dishes, and tried to cover it up by having us share a plate, instead of acknowledging their mistake and apologizing. Sat us in the middle of the restaurant in the back (worst table) and overall service and attitude was terrible.
I am a regular at Cafe Cluny but the service was really terrible this time. Our server appeared 10 minutes after we were seated to say hello but not offer water or menu. We did get the attention of another server who quickly took over but she ws servicing too many tables and could barely keep up, no fault of her own though. Def short staffed. Glad i was not there with a client or out of town guest trying to impress.
Will go back again but hope they work on servicing their guests a bit better.
Liked the way our entire experience was managed: table ready when we arrived (a Saturday night), seating comfortable, noise manageable, food good and pace of service, too.
Special kudos to the manager who handled a small wine spill beautifully. We four thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Went for a birthday dinner. Better choice than most as you can hear yourself talk but this was still a busy place for a Wednesday. My octopus was okay as were one of my friends mussels. His risotto was mushy and overcooked and my scallops were tiny, obviously frozen and tasteless. My other friend had nothing good to say about his ribs. I chose the place as it always looks cozy and inviting when walking by. It was not a complete wash, but it was disappointing and not particularly reasonable.
