Cafe Cluny Ratings and Reviews
really charming west village restaurant with good food, diverse menu and a great crowd.
Only criticisms would be our server who forgot part of our dinner order, she seemed new so she was easily forgiven, and the seating can be tight on the banquette. All in All a great dining experience. Highly recommended.
The food was excellent; ambiance fine. However, the noise level was outrageously loud, especially with very "excitable" guests a short table away, making conversation amongst my friends very difficult.
Without the noise issue, Cafe Cluny is a lovely restaurant.
Absolutely delightful experience, perfect for a birthday dinner. Window-seat request was accommodated; waitstaff was attentive, warm, engaging. We arrived in time for the prix fixe menu (offered daily from 5:30–6:30pm), which includes an appetizer, main course, and dessert for $35. A wonderful deal. Would recommend the stracciatella with beet chips, the clams, the Cluny burger, and the profiteroles. Can't wait to return.
We arrived at 8:33 for an 8:45 reservation. Told we would have to wait. We waited outside on a bench where we watched a mouse run back and forth from a hole in the street into the restaurant. Finally seated at 9:05 after we said we were leaving. Seated in the back room where there were at least 4 other tables set up for a party for 2 --- which we were. Obviously had been there all along while we were kept waiting.
Changed tables since they put us next to a really large loud group even though we asked for the quietest table they had.
Food was uninspired.
It was loud.
Will not recommend. Nor will I ever return.
Had the clams appetizer. Very tasty. House Pinot Noir was very good. Smooth. The crab risotto entree was fantastic. Service was very good. Solicitous. Atmosphere can be a little boisterous for some seeking quieter venue, but overall atmosphere is fun and friendly. Would be great for a small group gathering.
The meal was tasty and the Cluny cocktails were outstanding. The only odd moment was when the server dropped the check without asking if we were interested in coffee or dessert. It was only 8PM on Sunday evening and we had been steadily eating and drinking for two hours. Once we remarked to her that we weren't necessarily finished and ordered additional cocktails and dessert, things returned to cozy blissfulness.
This was my second time to Cafe Cluny, once with girlfriends, this time with my husband. Loved the fall feel to the place - the lighting, cosiness. Service was great, and the server helped with suggestions when we couldn't decide on a dish. Had sun choke soup,( a special), salmon and profiteroles for dessert. Be sure to try the homemade ice cream! Can't wait to return.
My second time here and I chose it for a special meal with a special friend visiting from Santa Fe. She is a gourmet chef, a foodie, and loves good wine. I don't drink and I'm vegetarian. Ha, ha. What a pair. But it's lovely here. Back room much more quiet. Food delicious. But I wish there were more than ONE choice for a vegetarian! What I ate was great...but I'd like more choices.
