Caturra on Grove - A New American Bistro
Nice atmosphere and friendly service. But pretty nonplussed by the 2 salads we got. I ordered a steak salad - it had a TINY amount of steak - disappointing.
Great neighborhood gem; quiet, local and was able to see a basketball game at the end of the bar! The service is always great, the food was good. Would love to try other items on the menu and check-out their specials.
I met friends for some wine and a light dinner to discuss a project. We were seated in a banquette near the windows, so it was a comfortable, relaxed space. So nice for visiting and conversation.
Very friendly staff. Warm and tasty breakfast.
We went for the jazz trio and really enjoyed them. An experienced Sax player joined them on their second set and he was outstanding.
The food was okay. The service was okay. The ambiance was okay, but the Saturday night Jazz was really good.
Food was great, service better. We lucked out and had live Jazz playing while ate. Go!
Oh my goodness!! I always like stopping by on a Friday afternoon for happy hour with friends. Since they have changed owners I thought I'd try dinner. There were four of us. We are not complainers but the food was less than bad! I won't go into all of the particulars but we all said we would never return for a meal. I will continue to meet friends there for a drink but no food!!!
Ordered a steak salad medium rare. Steak was well done. Service was slow and inattentive.
Nice ambiance. We never met our server; we went ~10 minutes without speaking with anyone until one of the hostesses ended up taking over our table.
Charcuterie board was okay. Nothing to write home about. My date enjoyed the pork loin. I had the sirloin and it was okay.
My friend and I made a reservation through open table for NYE. Our reservation was for 8pm, and we found out as our waitress was hurrying us that Caturra was closing early at 9pm. What I thought was going to be a nice dinner and drinks before going out ended up being a rushed experience with an over-cooked steak. Definitely a let down.
I've always enjoyed lunch at Caturra's but this was my first time having dinner. Really nice menu with seafood and vegetarian choices. Two of us got the Salmon Picatta with sautéed spinach and I might have licked my plate clean... Husband really enjoyed the Seafood Gumbo. Our server was wonderful. Never let our water glasses go dry even after we paid, the wine was gone, dishes cleared, and we just sat there talking. Can't wait to go back!
First time visiting this restaurant; the food was quite good, lots of wonderful options, can't wait to go back for dinner again and to try their brunch menu, as it looks fabulous. Good service, not overly attentive - provided great recommendations.
Food was ok. Service was not. Ordered two appetizers but only one arrived. Server disappeared for 20 minutes. Another server and maybe a manager brought the entrees. Let them know we never got the first appetizer. Had to request refills on water and tea. Waited a long time just to get our check.
Awesome drinks and dinner. I’ll be back soon!
This remains a great place to get lunch in Richmond. We had great service this time but it can be spotty—in fact we witnessed another table get ignored. But we had a great experience and very good food.
Met a dear friend and her family (including two kids) for brunch on Saturday and was very happy with the place! The food was phenomenal and the service was great too. Highly recommend.
First time for us and it was very good. Salmon was excellent and the service was very good as well. What made it special for us was the EXCELLENT jazz trio. I would return there for dinner but I would definitely go back because of the live music. I have commended yourrestaurant to my friends on social media and know some are planning to visit. They are jazz fans as well and since you’ve decided to have jazz every Saturday night, they won’t be disappointed.
I love this restaurant. Food, waitstaff, atmosphere, everything. Waiter was great and quickly attentive. It's on my favorite places to eat list.
With such a great menu, location and atmosphere, I expected so much more from this restaurant. Server was friendly and gracious but did not make up for extremely slow bar and food service, lousy food prep and taste and cold coffee. And to add to our experience - the air vent from the ceiling dripped onto my husband. Very disappointing.
We had a less than great experience this Sunday. Our server was very unattentive. We were a table of 4 and our drinks and meals were all brought at different times with lots of time in between. Would not eat here again.
Perfect place to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Great setting, prompt and friendly service, and delicious food. Will be back on other special occasions.
Sebastian was our server and he did an outstanding job! Food was great!
Great all around experience. Food is tasty and always on point. I like their diverse menu and a solid wine list to go along side. Cute interior and the service was top notch. Our server made sure we were take care of but wasn’t on top of us - just the right amount of attention. We look forward to coming back soon.
We enjoyed ourselves as first time customers. The music was especially nice in the backgound. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. Altogether a very nice time.
Tasty food, nice selection on the brunch menu, bright & cheerful atmosphere.
Father’s Day Brunch
We were one of the first parties to be seated for brunch on Fathers Day. They seemed to be very understaffed. Although it was not at all busy, we waited at least 45 minutes for our food. The wait staff didn’t even seem to notice how poor the service was. Very bad experience.
Absolutely lovely and our waitress was very nice however the food was only mediocre especially for the price.
Took my wife and three kids to Mother's Day brunch and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Good experience overall and will be back soon. The only complaint I have was that the door from the indoor dining area to the patio slammed very loudly every time someone went through it (every few minutes). Otherwise, very enjoyable.
Nice selections for brunch! Food was very tasty along with the mimosas and bloody Mary’s !
Perfect Mother’s Day Brunch. Great value on the carafe of mimosas.
I brought my kids for Mother’s Day brunch. Most was fine. My biggest disappointment was in my seafood Cobb salad. It was supposed to be a mixture of crab and shrimp with the other ingredients listed, including avocado. The avocado was served brown. After sending it back it came back unchanged. The seafood mixture was shrimp and imitation crab. While it was tasty, it wasn’t clearly represented as described and somewhat overpriced at $14.
Steak salad was good. Meatball dish was dry, needed more sauce. Service was fine. Quiet and easy to hold a conversation.
I went here with close friends and family (party of 6) after wedding dress shopping. I made reservations and they were very accommodating when we arrived earlier than the scheduled time. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious- their brunch menu has many options! I would definitely recommend this spot.
This was my second visit. The food was GREAT but the service was poor (again). While the staff was mostly polite and smiling (except for the hostess), they were not able to provide seven the most basic service. It was 30 minutes between seating of our complete party and taking the order. Upon receipt of our drink order I noted that I would need an additional cup of hot water for tea as soon a the waiter returned as well as some sweetener for my tea.. Although I reminded him of my request, I never received the hot water - and the tea was no longer hot when the sweetener arrived (third request). I asked for jelly and never received it. There was not any salt or pepper on the table. I did ask to speak to an owner/manager and did have the opportunity to do so. He was kind and reduced my bill even though I explained that I was not requesting that. I hope they can fix the service issue as the food is wonderful.
We had one lunch and one dinner here while visiting Richmond for 6 days. The salads are really, really good, and are a great value. Service was excellent and accommodating. The lunch experience was great; however, our dinner was not exactly what we wanted: the menu was limited, and the food was okay but not great (other than the salads). We would have appreciated a quieter meal, but I guess the scene there is more for wine drinkers than for intimate conversation.
Our experience was less than stellar. Our server seemed overwhelmed and yet they weren't particularly crowded. We placed drink orders that took forever, to the point I had to go to the bar to retrieve them (they were already made and had been sitting). Our food arrived, cold. When my husband and son-in-law told the waiter their pancakes were cold (again, apparently having been sitting awhile) instead of getting a fresh serving, they were simply zapped in the microwave. The restaurant itself is nice as far ambience, but we definitely will not be coming back.
Service was a little slow and nothing was served hot. It’s like it sat awhile
We ate a mid morning breakfast on Easter Sunday. It was nice to be able to get a reservation. The menu included traditional breakfast choices and some more unique items. All of the items we ordered were good. The Mediterranean breakfast skillet was the best and the biscuit was just OK. Everything else was good or better. Prices were more than fair, the service was fine - it did not distract from the experience but could have been better. We will definitely go back again.
Great happy hour specials! A little noisy even for early in the evening, but great spot for a light dinner and drinks.
