About Cafe Carlo
Cafe Carlo is a friendly, unpretentious Canadian bistro located in Winnipeg’s Little Italy neighborhood. Cafe Carlo’s warm, comfortable atmosphere has been a staple in Winnipeg’s dining scene and continues to be considered among the city’s best restaurants since it was established in 1989. The atmosphere and the décor have evolved from the restaurant’s humble “rummage sale” chic beginnings. The owners and employees believed that a great restaurant simply was meant to be “about the food”. The passion of the very first employees and their love of food & drink remain intact to this day. We want to share the foods and beverages we love, that the world loves, with each of our guests.

Cafe Carlo Ratings and Reviews
As always, terrific. Great food and service. Everything on the menu is delicious but I can’t resist the homemade gnocchi with beef ragu which is out of this world. Great Caesar salad and terrific soaps (corn chorizo, and seafood chowder) as well. If you are a first time diner there and you like a bit of heat, the signature Fett Chile is a must!
This was our first time to Café Carlos but it won't be our last. We had the fish tacos as an appetizer - loved the spicy sauce. We also ordered the signature Fett Chile and it was excellent. We are looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. Service was attentive.
Every food item was very good. Over the top was the knowledgeable waitress, Bonnie. She knew the menu inside / out and had many options for our celiac guest. Not afraid to make suggestions without dominating the decision. The beer and wine list was short but did not detract from the experience.
Cafe Carlo remains one of our favorite places for just about every occasion. The food is consistently great and the service is excellent. The chowders (seafood, corn) are excellent, and the gnocchi with beef ragu is to die for! Also, if you haven’t tried their signature pasta dish, Fett Chile, it’s a must. Cafe Carlo will never disappoint!
The food was great. None of us could finish the portions. Only downside was they ran out of the special beer of the night. Seafood chowder is a must try. A little different with clams and mussels still in the shells in it. Pretty decent value for excellent food 4 people 2 drinks each $225 including tip. (I left $40 tip) ($175 before tip)
Excellent service, excellent food, a comfortable quiet ambience with lighting that is pleasant but lets you see your food. I've never had a bad experience at Cafe Carlo and this was no exception. I had the chef's special and did not feel like I was eating leftovers. My daughter had the Fett Chili and my wife the Ravioli. Both were completely satisfactory. What more could one ask?
Great service and a diverse menu that makes it hard to choose what to order. They are all good! Knowledgeable servers can guide your decisions, if needed. Chef's specials are a highlight, including the wine and beer. Ambiance is unique and cozy. We liked it so much that we purchased one of the paintings that were on display. Best for smaller parties/couples.
Bonnie was outstanding, and made our dining experience! She is very friendly and personable, and was genuine when inquiring about personal preferences i.e. regarding spicy heat for my husband who does not enjoy spicy./Desert sweets. She took time to inform us of the menu selections and answering any questions. Water was always provide throughout our dining. Bonnie checked on our how we were enjoying appetitizers/entrees. She ensured my husbands was a level of spice he enjoyed. Overall a wonderful delicious dining experience enjoyed by myself , husband (we had the Fantasy - loved it! Mine was spicy but really enjoyable and our friends had meaty penne and gmoochi with beef ragout, desert berry crumble Our dinner included avery creamy smooth cream bruelle . Compliments to the chef !
We will all definitely return again!
The lamb was wonderful and enjoyed by all how ordered it. The seafood penne had a great taste, but was a little over cooked. We are seniors and found the music a bit loud, but were pleased at our request to turn it down was met. Service was excellent and we look forward to going again.
We took our friends there for a birthday celebration. Their first time there and they really liked it. We have been there 4 times and it has been good each time. I had the cannelloni this time and didn't enjoy it quite as much as my meal other times, but still fine. The noise level was acceptable and we could hear each other without talking loudly. Ambience and atmosphere was good. Our server, Bonnie was absolutely outstanding. She was very busy but still attentive, very friendly and explained the drinks and menu beautifully. We will definitely be back again soon.
The food and service are both amazing and they go above and beyond to make your experience a positive one. When exiting the restaurant, I managed to drop my glasses under the table and step on them. When I called the next day, one of the staff had worked at straightening the frame and put the lense back into my glasses! That's what I call, going above and beyond for your customers!
A great place to spend an evening with friends in a relaxed atmosphere. The server, Bonnie was friendly and knowledgeable about the wine list. The appetisers, meals and dessert were all beyond our expectations. Full of flavor and visually appealing.
Definitely worth a return visit on more than one occasion.
My fiancee highly recommended Cafe Carlo, her favorite place in Winnipeg for the seafood chowder and seafood pasta. And she was right, the seafood chowder is delicious. She was telling me stories about how full the seafod chowder would be, tons of shrimp, salmon, scallops, lobster, clams. She was a bit disappointed because there was not as much seafood this time around.
Consistent high quality creative food, service like it should be... 30 plus years of leading the way... Saturday night it's full buzzing with atmosphere... I focused on my sauce on the squash ravioli... then asked our coach fir the ingredients which she provided ...they do the little things right which make all the difference between good and great... when you ask how a cocktail or meal is prepared you will experience the difference... Bon appetit... sabrosso
