Cafe Capriccio Ratings and Reviews
Let me start by saying that our shrimp appetizer was very good. The shrimp was flavorful and cooked to perfection. After that, I'm afraid that for our first time here, it was disappointing for us.
We had four different people waiting on our table which, while they were all friendly, was a little annoying.
The main course menu - being so very limited, gave us the expectancy that they must be extraordinary, however, the half chicken, potatoes and veggies was mediocre at best, and swimming in oil. My wife ordered the ravioli special, which was very good, but only slightly better than average. Lastly, we ordered a glass of Joseph Carr wine, and were surprised at the light pour.
We had 5:30 reservations on a Saturday and we were out the door by 6:10. That is not normal for us as we like to linger in a place that offers atmosphere and have an after-dinner drink, but unfortunately, we decided to not try again at what we would receive for a drink and there was no atmosphere whatsoever in the room we were seated in.
This may not be the same as others, but for us, it was an unfortunate dining experience that missed the mark.
I never, ever have to think twice where we’ll eat when we are near Albany!
Even though we live an hour away, I look forward to the ‘drive up’ to Cafe Capriccio. I love that you are able to order a small or large portion of some dishes!! That makes my decision making easy, I get to have a little of this and a little of that!!!
Besides having excellent food and service I appreciate that at Cafe Capriccio you can actually have a conversation without having to shout. It is an intimate setting with the tables spaced appropiately so the noise level is low. The food and wine selection is very good and the staff are friendly and professional. I highly recommend this place.
Creatively imagined traditional Italian food featuring homemade pasta. Everything tasted great - clearly ingredients were fresh and of high quality. Ambiance is wonderful for conversation, quiet and cozy. Staff made us feel welcome from the time we opened the door and walked in. Highly recommended!
Food was good, but not really a wow factor. Service was dry. We brought our own wine, but they only poured the first glass for us. The server didn't write the order down, and then had to come back to ask us what one of the orders was. Crumbing the table was needed between courses, but didn't occur until the end of the meal. Restaurant decor appears dated. It was an average dining experience comparable to casual dining. Not what I expected.
We went for our anniversary, as it was a place that we went to years ago. Looking to have a relaxing dinner. Food was exceptional, however service made us feel rushed. When ordering drinks they also requested our dinner options, then checked back in 30 seconds. Cleared plates almost while still eating. Very disappointed with being rushed, never been asked to order drinks, apps, and dinner at sametime. Way too rushed for a nice dinner out. Too bad because the food is really good.
Wonderful food: Appetizers included risotto, greens/beans and pasta puttanesca. Entrees were steak, sea bass, and brussels sprouts (yes, a main course--they're real--and they're spectacular!).
Our waitstaffer, Jennifer, was professional, friendly and efficient. She offered good descriptions of the menu items and also suggested options to those who were having difficulty selecting.
We are regulars, and will continue to be!
Great food. We were seated in the bar section that became VERY loud as a large table was gathering until they all arrived. It was obnoxiously loud, but it cleared out in 30 minutes and then it was fine. My previous visit, we were seated on the other side of the restaurant and it was perfect the entire evening. I will definitely come back.
I have never had a bad meal at Cafe Capriccio. The food is fantastic. The eggplant with four cheeses is unbelievable. Next time I am just going to get two orders of that appetizer as my meal!! I am working on recreating the red sauce. I have the recipe in my copy of the Cafe
Capriccio’s Chef’s Table cookbook, and even went out and bought the “secret ingredient.” Mine came out pretty good but not quite as good as the restaurant’s. I’ll keep trying.
Already looking forward to my next visit. By the way, our waitress was great! If I could remember her name I’d give her a personal shout out!
To keep it short: it is hard to justify the high prices, and out of place location and atmosphere. Deep inside there is a table that seats ~20 people, and we were seated in 4 person booth surrounding it. Since it was too noisy, we had an error with our order. The waiter was professional about it. Though I had to go over later and ask the other dish be removed. For the size and quality of the dishes, it was okay. To me, the rating was for the location and atmosphere. I expected more open space, an classy atmosphere, and modern setting. I saw a lot of tables just ordering glasses of wine, so this place might be the spot to get away and be low key.
We have come to Cafe Capriccio, virtually since it first opened, for all sorts of special events. We would even make up special events to have an excuse to be there.
Special is the operative word. The staff is always welcoming, knowledgeable about the entire menu, including the wine list, and generous with their attention. Never is there the silly banter with wait staff that you get in other restaurants.
And the food...what can you say!? Superlative always! We have never been less than impressed by the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Finally, the preparation and presentation are excellent always - absolutely consistent. Cafe Capriccio is the standard by which all great restaurants must be judged!
Service was excellent but the food was very disappointing. Menu was very limited. We both had pasta dishes and the pasta tasted like store-bought box pasta. Sauce was okay, lots of garlic, very thin. One of the pasta dishes had pancetta, but VERY little, both in size and amount. Desserts were Sysco-like. Was hoping for another good Italian dining option in Capital District , but this did not meet expectations.
We, party of 9, had a great variety of dishes--pasta, pork, duck, tuna. Everybody was very happy. Great service. Place has the feel of confidence and establishment. It is Italian through and through, but inventive, northern for the most part. Good wine list--something for every taste.
This is a lovely place with a wonderful atmosphere and especially courteous staff. It is a bit pricey but the food is excellent. The biggest challenge is to find the place: it is sort of downstairs in a corner building next to a large parking lot in an undistinguished part of town. But once you are inside, however, the world transforms and it is cozy and very pleasant.
Cafe C. Is an institution that has maintained its well deserved reputation as a first class Tuscan Italian restaurant. This is not a spaghetti and meatballs place, but the pasta options are all wonderful and homemade. Entrees are complex and satisfying always with a rustic approach. Great wine list, and superb knowledgable waitstaff. Check their menu online. There's nothing not to love about CC.
