Like the other reviews said, ignore the neighborhood and enter food bliss. The wild mushroom soup was some of the best I have ever tasted. The risotto special with shrimp and apples was very nice. The portions are quite large.
We like the old school feel, combined with a menu of both traditional and innovative dishes.
The food here is amazing. Their risotto and ravioli specials are out of this world delicious. I fantasize about their risotto! The staff is very attentive. Can't ask for a better meal in downtown Albany.
Excellent food and service! Highly recommend it. Parking was easier than I thought it would be.
Always a good choice, I have had many great meals here. The shrimp/octopus pasta and duck ragu pasta were excellent.
Every visit to Albany always includes at least one visit to Cafe Capriccio.
Pre-marathon dinner. Great service, excellent pasta and meatballs. Insalata Caprese had excellent tomatoes and good homemade mozzarella (not buffala, but flavorful). Happy to have this nearby the Hilton (near the end of the marathon). Others there for race, romantic dates and family dining all seemed to be enjoying the multi-room space.
Love this restaurant. The service is both friendly and professional. The food is creative and beautifully prepared. Highly recommended.
I was expecting nothing going into Cafe Capriccio, given the slightly sketchy surroundings and exterior, but this is a fantastic place. The service was impeccable, the food was outstanding, and the atmosphere was cozy. As someone who has been to many of Albany’s nice restaurants, I’d say this is Albany’s finest.
Great service. Very good food. Broad menu. Staff could have done a better job of managing other customer's raucous behavior.
Somewhat limited menu. Food was goo, not great. The servers kept coming to take more orders, Not one but all. It seemed that I told one that we were not ready then a minute later a different one came to the table. We felt rushed. I will not be back.
Wonderful food, service and cozy dining! Can’t wait to go back again soon.
Our dinner was very good, generous portions for everything. Atmosphere was very nice. Server was friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and for sure go back again.
The table was great and the server was amazing. However, they were out of the wine that we first selected. The appetizer was fabulous. My main dish was not hot, it was barely warm with was a disappointment. They took it back to heat it up but it still wasn't hot when it returned. We did have a show to attend, and they did get us out on time. I would give this restaurant another try.
Authentic Italian food in an old world atmosphere!
This place is a true gem! As soon as you walk in you can feel the sense of nostalgia and history it exudes. As a first time patron I can't express how excited I am to revisit this experience with family and friends!!! I highly recommend this place although be prepared to pay for what you get, which is true quality ingredients and an intimate experience!
Our party of four visited Albany to see a show at the Egg. We shared two delicious appetizers (greens & beans and eggplant with 4 cheeses). All of our entrees were excellent (risotto of the day, ravioli of the day, sausage w/ rapini, and duck ragu). The bread was really good too. Servers were great. Would definitely dine here next time we are in Albany!
Fantastic service and great food! Food was high quality and fresh.
Great traditional Italian food, it doesn’t get much better than this. Always amazing and great service.
Sorry to say, after having been to this restaurant several times and having really enjoyed, this time the wait staff was so unfriendly, rude and service was so poor, I honestly can say we will not return.
We were rushed from the moment we sat down. The food was fine, but the disposition of our waitress, and one other woman whom I am not sure whom she was, was such a bad experience.
Its really quite sad, as we have fond memories of this restaurant.
Even worse, we were celebrating a birthday, and I had infomed the restaurant upon booking, and we felt so rushed and annoyed by the staff, we did not even get to have dessert. The restaurant apparently closed at 9 pm on a Sunday, and the most important thing in there mind was to have everyone out of the restaurant by 9:55 pm. They were successful.
We have come to Cappricio many times and have never been disappointed. The food is exceptionally fresh and well prepared. Always special! Thanks Misters Rua!
Wonderful meal as always, and a great server. She was attentive without being intrusive, a perfect balance.
I had grilled tuna with roast vegetables, a nice thick tuna steak with wonderful grill flavor outside and slightly pink inside (without being sushi-rare). A generous dab of pesto made a very nice palate-cleansing foil for the rich grilled and roasted flavors.
My companion had the ravioli of the day (mushroom/gorgonzola) in a tomato-basil cream. They were fabulous - her portion was large enough that I sampled some myself. The ravioli here are consistently excellent, always a great choice. The sauce is a nice balance of bright, creamy, and savory, just enough body without becoming overbearing.
We have been eating here once in a while for at least twenty years and have never been disappointed, not once.
It's one of the few places that we're always glad bringing friends and family to when they're visiting from out of town. That's a very short list indeed, and Cafe Capriccio is right at the top.
Thank you Elizabeth our wonderful server for making a lovely meal special.
My wife and I went there for dinner before a concert at the egg. It was a wonderful experience. Plan to take your time & enjoy. We eat from the appetizer side of the menu, every dish was great.
Everything was very organized and the service was outstanding. The quality of the food was great and only enhanced by the experience of the chief.
We were recommended this restaurant by our valet, Rocco at the Marriott hotel. He told us if we wanted authentic homemade Italian food that this was the place to go. We were not disappointed. I wish we had an Italian restaurant this good in Los Angeles.
Great Evening for our 33rd Anniversary!! Thank You!
WE HAD A WONDERFUL DINNER, AS USUAL. THE ITALIAN FOOD IS FRESH AND CREATIVE. THE WAITSTAFF IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND ATTENTIVE. IT IS MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT.
Everything about Capriccio is SUPERB! The food is inventive, the staff is great, and the ambience is excellent!
Nice Northern Italian Restaurant with a great wine list, knowledgeable wait staff, and a bistro/continental atmosphere.
Food was absolutely fantastic. Waitress was very friendly, very accommodating and very pleasant.
I haven't been there in many years, went last week on Monday night and was blown away how fantastic this place is. If you want your dining experience to have a lasting impression, go to Cafe Capriccio.
Service was amazing from start to finish! We had several people attend to us and all were knowledgeable and friendly. Our waiting, whose name I unfortunately didn't get, gave us some 'pro tips' for ordering and it was all fantastic!
Never had a bad experience there, and I probably never will.
Will most definitely come again. My companion was a regular patron and loves the food. We'll be back!
As always, I greatly enjoy this place, the workers and the other patrons are always delightful, and the food can’t be beat especially the fresh house made pasta!
This is a top capital area pick. I rarely give 5 stars but this restaurant is worth the praise.
Great to visit
Everything was so delicious! The greens and beans, the ravioli, the meatballs, fresh pasta in squid ink: all amazing.
Café Capriccio has never disappointed me, and did not on this visit. The welcome was warm, the service friendly but professional, and the food was excellent. The house-made charcuterie was particularly good. The wine list isn't overly long, but it's well-chosen with some very good mid-priced bottles from Italy and California.
The restaurant should describe itself as a taverna, as it is below street level, and has a somewhat dark interior with wood paneling.
The ingredients in all our dishes—antipasti, primi and secondi—were without exception fresh.
The shortcomings were primarily in the tomato sauce that overwhelmed any dish it was a part of.
This is a problem with most Italian restaurants in the US, but it simply does not reflect authentic Italian restaurant cooking.
Additionally, my pasta was way over cooked. And the waiter switched two of our secondi, which we didn’t realize until too late because of the over-saucing of both dishes.
At just under $200, before tip, we expected better.
