We took a chance on a recommendation from our hotel for Cafe Capricious, and we were so glad we did. What a delightful delicious dinner. Nice wines by the glass-fresh tasty salads and then I ordered the house made burrata ravioli with a tomato cream sauce-absolutely one of the gest pasta dishes i have ever had. Hubby had the house made Puttanesca and it was layers of flavor. Highly recommend this restaurant. Nice helpful bartender who also makes the yummy Cheesecake.
Wonderful every time we eat there
Great time! Fabulous food! Loved the atmosphere and service!
Wonderful as always! The scallops and sausage appetizer was great and of course their homemade ravioli is special!
Loveliest dinner I have had in a long time!
The food and service were both outstanding and memorable! The special pizza for the evening was delicious and made a great appetizer to share! Oh, and the Manhattans are fabulous!!
Top notch cuisine
Great food, great service, warm, friendly atmosphere. I love the feel of the place, and the food is always interesting and delicious! A true gem!
An old school Italian restaurant with some interesting takes on classic dishes. Everything is done very well and the servers were a delight. Found this place on Open Table as we are traveling through Albany. Very pleasantly surprised.
Food was amazing. Service was great and they made excellent recommendations! Can’t wait to eat there again!
Delicious meal, wonderful servers and cozy atmosphere!
Great restaurant! I had an amazing time with the waiting staff and the whole atmosphere was friendly. My ONLY complaint, which is quite negligible by itself, is that we got asked if we were ready to order 3 times in the span of about a minute, if the waiting staff could be a bit more in tune with each other that would top the whole place off.
Not that big of a deal though, great place!
Can’t go wrong at Cappriccio….food always outstanding.
Excellent food! Local, fresh and homemade. Loved it!! Service very attentive. Very personable!!
We have dined here many times. In our top 3 favorite Italian restaurants.
We appreciate the small family owned places. Jennifer is often our server. She’s outstanding. Courteous, good energy, offers good suggestions in food and wine. Her and her team are attentive, but not overly.
Great time as always!
Time does change things. I was not happy years ago with the service at this place though the food was always good. But, this time service was excellent and the food seemed to taste better because of it! The ambience in this brownstone located venue has always brought fond memories (of NYC) and a kind of warmth that is hard to come by in many of the newer mall located establishments.
Apps, entrees, dessert, wine, and service were all excellent. Can't wait to return!
Everything here was very good except for our appetizer. We ordered fried artichokes. They arrived cold and with burn marks on them. These were clearly pre-fried and reheated under a broiler. I expected freshly prepared food, especially for a deep fried dish. Other than that, it was great, one of the few places to get fresh pasta and chicken sorrento.
Outstanding as usual; food prepared extremely well.
Super good service and the food was amazing!
Our favorite restaurant ever! We’ve been going there for over 20 years and have never been disappointed.
We've been visiting Cafe Capriccio since @1983 for special personal events and for the best possible meals to be found anywhere. We being family members and friends with us when possible. This week we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. Cafe Capriccio on the agenda as always, and, fabulous, as always.
Great time and excellent food. My son and I really enjoyed our dinner and the exceptional service.
Would highly recommend to people visiting Albany.
The menu never gets stale. New dishes to experience each time we go. Always fresh and prepared to perfection
A charming, intimate urban restaurant featuring authentic Italian favorites and freshly made pasta.
The food was good and the servers were very attentive and knowledgeable. I do want to point out that the restaurant is not located in a nice part of Albany and the parking for it is awful.
One of the things that the pandemic has done is to make me realize the difference between eating out when you are just tired and when you really want a special experience of food. Cafe Capriccio is that experience, particularly as compared with other very so-so offerings in the Albany Capital District area.
This was a special occasion so I knew we would spend some $$ and fortunately I am able to do that. I am quite willing to spend some $$ on something special infrequently than wasting the same or much more $$ on more frequent stuff where I could do better at home and support local sources.
Cafe Capriccio was busy on a Sunday early evening. They have been in business for over 40 years with a single owner. Once you get through the worn front door and narrow hallway, it feels like you are in Italy. The pastas and sauces are all homemade made and fresh. All the servers are professional and clearly love the food. Albany is over an hour away from our home, but next time we are in Albany we will definitely come back.
This is the kind of restaurant where you’d expect to see Loretta Castorini dining. A unique experience.
Just a fantastic meal all around. Overall the food is both sophisticated but comforting at the same time. A perfect balance. Bravo!
From the beginning the service is top notch. They work in a team so you never feel you are waiting. The servers are quick to share specials and answer any questions.
If you like specialty cocktails, they have some great drinks. We actually stuck with cocktails instead of switching to wine.
For food, you are first greeted with really warm fresh bread and plenty of olive oil on the table to enjoy.
The choices of apps and salads are fantastic. Previously on a to go order we got the meatballs, which were a home run, but for this in dining experience we ordered the tuna, which was a great way to start. Fresh and light, leaving room for main course.
One of us tried the ravioli special and one of us tried a truffle pizza. Both were super delicious and fun. No left overs. Both meals left us excited to come back and enjoy more of the menu.
Dessert was homemade and delicious. We think it changes daily.
If there is a negative to this restaurant its the initial impression of being a bit dated. But a few minutes after settling in, receiving the great service and tasting the food we really appreciate the owners focused on the most important parts of dining out. Too many restaurants have modern décor but lack everywhere else.
Very much Looking forward to our next visit.
Seemed a little rushed by wait staff but still a very good experience.
Great dinner, such a nice dining experience
Good food, dismissive service. Went for a special birthday and called ahead to advise the restaurant and they said they would take good care of us...that really did not happen. Staff was rigid in approach, lacking warmth and did not recognize the birthday. The food was very good and it was unfortunate that the experience suffered due to the lackluster service.
Perfect meal. Great service. Park for free right next door!
Service and food was outstanding!!
Food and service were fantastic.
This was our first time at Cafe Capriccio and we will be back!
Not a bad thing to say about our visit. Always a great time
Cafe Cap never disappoints. From salads to pasta, entrees to desserts, expect the extraordinary. Arugula was field-fresh; the wild Chanterelles mushrooms in Vegan Ragu were buttery & tender. The cafe bakes its own crusty & delicious bread. The marinara on the Vegan Ragu and beef & pork Ragu was light & bright. The Lemoncello mascarpone cake was lemony, light & rich. Butter pecan cheesecake was nicely balanced between creamy, salty, sweet, & nutty. The lunache pasta was just the right shape & size to hold sauces & cooked perfectly al dente. Service was friendly & professional, quick & efficient. After all these years Cafe Cap not only doesn’t disappoint, it exceeds even this diner’s fond memories.
