Cafe Capriccio Ratings and Reviews
Fish special turned me off when they put tomatoes on fish - not good.
The pasta with sausage was good except the paring of cheese wasn't to my liking
The ravioli's were fantastic. The atmosphere leaves much to be desired in
a dump of a neighborhood .
I won't be going back.
This little gem is not at all new to us. We've been coming here for years, although not enough.
The cuisine is superb; the service is top rate and Jim Rua owns the best Italian Restaurant within
a 100 mile radius of the Capital District. We'll be coming back more often, fer sure, fer sure. Thanx for a very special evening to the chef (s) and the wait staff.
It was our first time there. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was exceptional, the wait staff very attentive, knowledgeable, courteous. The menu was a perfect size, not overwhelming with selections. Portions were very generous, ingredients very fresh, high end quality.
Capriccio should be in NYC somewhere in the 20's where the restaurant is tiny, cosy, downstairs and seems just right. The staff is friendly, offer excellent service, have been there a long time and know the menu, the drinks, and are good advisors, and never overbearing The food is well prepared, and tasty. Not oversauced. Wine choices are good, but not great. That might be the only place where one would look for improvement. The mixed drinks are excellent. In Albany it is tough to do better.
Vodka martini was generous and delicious. Roasted potatoes out of this world. Tuscan chicken very good but a tad too lemony. Greenbeans were crunchy just the way I like them but they had absolutely no flavor. I would serve them in-season only. Broccoli or cauliflower would have been perfect. The coffee was very good. The bread pudding I could not eat..........WAY too much chocolate sauce.
Café Capriccio is a neighborhood gem. It's located adjacent to the Times Herald Arena and as such is a terrific place to dine when attending an event. That said, it would be terrific if located anywhere. The ambience is excellent, the service top-notch, and the menu is loaded with outstanding Italian dishes. This may well be the best restaurant in Albany and especially so for special occasions.
Disappointing experience at what used to be one of our favorite restaurants, and our favorite Italian one. We had read some reports that it had gone downhill but tried it again. I got the basic pasta dish, mainly for the sauce, but the pasta was overdone and the dish was not very tasty. My wife got veal scaloppini and was also disappointed. These dishes also came out very fast - they had better not have been premade and warmed up!! The tiramisu desert was fantastic, and the fresh bread, excellent. But overall, we would grade the entrees as a C+, and not nearly worth the $100 with tip (and one martini) the evening cost us. Really disappointed - might not return
We had a wonderful meal, enhanced by imaginative side dishes and excellent desserts! It's not inexpensive, but definitely worth the price. I was pleased to see so many creative vegetarian options. We would most certainly recommend it as a special occasion place.
Very good, intimate dining in downtown Albany. Nice relaxed atmosphere with attentive service. A reliably inventive menu provides Italian specialities with fresh ingredients. Have been to the restaurant many times over the years and it never disappoints. Recommended.
Another outstanding dining experience, from the wonderful table we were led to, to the top-notch service we got, to the scrumptious, beautifully presented meal we ate and to the special way the staff made us feel while we celebrated our 8th anniversary together.
Let me start by saying that our shrimp appetizer was very good. The shrimp was flavorful and cooked to perfection. After that, I'm afraid that for our first time here, it was disappointing for us.
We had four different people waiting on our table which, while they were all friendly, was a little annoying.
The main course menu - being so very limited, gave us the expectancy that they must be extraordinary, however, the half chicken, potatoes and veggies was mediocre at best, and swimming in oil. My wife ordered the ravioli special, which was very good, but only slightly better than average. Lastly, we ordered a glass of Joseph Carr wine, and were surprised at the light pour.
We had 5:30 reservations on a Saturday and we were out the door by 6:10. That is not normal for us as we like to linger in a place that offers atmosphere and have an after-dinner drink, but unfortunately, we decided to not try again at what we would receive for a drink and there was no atmosphere whatsoever in the room we were seated in.
This may not be the same as others, but for us, it was an unfortunate dining experience that missed the mark.
I never, ever have to think twice where we’ll eat when we are near Albany!
Even though we live an hour away, I look forward to the ‘drive up’ to Cafe Capriccio. I love that you are able to order a small or large portion of some dishes!! That makes my decision making easy, I get to have a little of this and a little of that!!!
Besides having excellent food and service I appreciate that at Cafe Capriccio you can actually have a conversation without having to shout. It is an intimate setting with the tables spaced appropiately so the noise level is low. The food and wine selection is very good and the staff are friendly and professional. I highly recommend this place.
Creatively imagined traditional Italian food featuring homemade pasta. Everything tasted great - clearly ingredients were fresh and of high quality. Ambiance is wonderful for conversation, quiet and cozy. Staff made us feel welcome from the time we opened the door and walked in. Highly recommended!
Food was good, but not really a wow factor. Service was dry. We brought our own wine, but they only poured the first glass for us. The server didn't write the order down, and then had to come back to ask us what one of the orders was. Crumbing the table was needed between courses, but didn't occur until the end of the meal. Restaurant decor appears dated. It was an average dining experience comparable to casual dining. Not what I expected.
We went for our anniversary, as it was a place that we went to years ago. Looking to have a relaxing dinner. Food was exceptional, however service made us feel rushed. When ordering drinks they also requested our dinner options, then checked back in 30 seconds. Cleared plates almost while still eating. Very disappointed with being rushed, never been asked to order drinks, apps, and dinner at sametime. Way too rushed for a nice dinner out. Too bad because the food is really good.
Wonderful food: Appetizers included risotto, greens/beans and pasta puttanesca. Entrees were steak, sea bass, and brussels sprouts (yes, a main course--they're real--and they're spectacular!).
Our waitstaffer, Jennifer, was professional, friendly and efficient. She offered good descriptions of the menu items and also suggested options to those who were having difficulty selecting.
We are regulars, and will continue to be!
