When visiting the Art Museum one should definitely plan lunch here. Outstanding food, presentation, service and ambiance. I highly recommend it.
What a great spot for lunch. An unexpected find. Had an enjoyable lunch in a fantastic spot.
Surprisingly reasonable prices along with an excellent ambiance made this the perfect place to eat before spending time in the Museum.
Never disappointed. The Cafe is one reason we are members of the MAM though we live in Illinois.
Wonderful food, service, and great price!
I recommend it!
Brought group from retirement community. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Our wait staff was friendly and attentive. The Hostess helped with the 2 walkers we had right off the bat. Very positive and satisfying experience! Thank you!
Great food and service - loved the twice cooked chicken. Disappointed that there was no crumble left for dessert.
My only complaint is the fact that the woman seating people claimed I did not have a reservation. I took out my phone and showed her the reservation and miraculously she found my reservation.
Creative and delicious menu. Yum. Try is soon and often.
Portions a little underwhelming for the price but good food on a beautiful place.
This was the perfect spot for our lunch for 5 people. The food was good and we were able to relax and talk, without being rushed to finish.
Good food. Good service. Lovely view. It was perfect for out of town guests.
Staff managed 13 of us at two tables with grace and good will. Many thanks.
Excellent service. Limited menu with a few daily specials that are added to menu. Pasta dishes are a good bet.
Very very slow service, which was disappointing as we wanted to move along and get back to walking thru the museum
Such a great place to meet with friends, and the food was exceptional.
Beautiful view and great burgers! It worked well to meet my friend there and see the current exhibit.
We were visiting the Art Museum for an exhibit. It is a lovely setting with beautiful views of the lake. The dishes we had were quite good but the selection was limited. Maybe they try to do too many meal times.
The coffee cake was a nice touch with our coffee .
Cold interior. Apologetic and thoughtful staff that tried to make things right. The skate was tasty. Colaflower soup was too spicy. They had a good gluten free bread.
The food is always delicious! The view outstanding, great place to enjoy a meal.
Food was very fresh and upscale. The waitress recommended a turkey sandwich strongly, which turned out to be deep fried and bland, so we worked around it as we had over ordered. she did not come back to check on us until 20 minutes later, and we sent the turkey sandwich back and asked for nothing in exchange as we wanted to return to the museum. She left it on the bill and then sheepishly told us that she could ask the manager, who took it off.
The view was lovely and the water and iced tea were never empty. they should take the turkey sandwich off the menu. Mushroom soup and marscapone mousse with rhubarb were great, as was the company.
The foraged flatbread was not hot and not that good. The Meyer lemon poundcake was very dry and not easy to eat the way served. The avocado toast was outstanding. I have been here several times over the last year and this meal was just not as good as I expected.
Our server took very good care of us. We had visitors from out of state with us & she really made them feel welcome & special.
The food was delicious; we enjoyed the St Patty's Day specials. Service was only ok. The server seemed unenthusiastic to be there. She also didn't seem to take my food allergies seriously.
Service was great, food was great!! Capped off a nice day with my Mother. Thank you for the awesome experience !
Creative menu, fun place to people watch strollers among lakefront.
My wife and I had lunch at Cafe' Calatrava on a Saturday. I was glad that we had booked early through Open Table so that we did not have to wait in line. I had requested a table with the best view of Lake Michigan, and we were seated at the perfect table. The portion sizes were adequate for a midday meal. The menu offered some unique choices that encouraged us to expand our horizons.
As usual, the entree list was interesting and healthy. Good service considering it was very crowded. If it had been less busy and quieter, it would have been a perfect lunch. Highly recommended.
I had the pleasure of enjoying lunch at Cafe Calatrava for the first time on a Saturday afternoon (1/14/17). The staff is professional and friendly and I particularly enjoyed the restaurant's ambience and prompt service. I would advise making a reservation as I did to ensure that you have a table ready when you arrive. The museum wasn't paticularly busy and the restaurant was almost full. The food portions were favorable and my friend and I weren't able to finish every dish BUT we wouldn't have ordered less. We had the Chicken Liver spread, cheese board, ravioli, pizza, benigets and a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Our server Sam gave us the perfect amount of attention and her team provided great assistance. I will definitely return and I believe that if you're in Milwaukee, you should definitely dine at Cafe Calatrava.
Beautiful view on a sunny winter day. Fun to watch the activity along the lakefront with a mimosa in my hand. The egg benedict with croissant and mortadella was outstanding!
Outstanding service and a great atmosphere! The only negative was the pizza, overdone. The rest of the food including dessert was delicious. But, burnt crust pizza should never be served!
Perfect way to kick off a holiday trip! On the way to the airport, had a leisurely stroll through the impressionists, then a lovely dinner in the cafe!
My favorite place for lunch with the girls, located under the Milwaukee Art Museum. Milwaukee doesn't offer many places to dine where you can look out over Lake Michigan. The light and the room is beautiful and the food is nicely prepared. The room is not huge so get there early or make a reservation over lunch hour. The menu is not huge either, but features thoughtfully prepared local fare. Get the trout if it is listed. The staff is always genuinely friendly, helpful and professional. A nice place to stop after checking out the latest exhibit, but many times a destination all its own. Go for the view, stay for the food.
Great food and pleasant service in a special place!
What a deal: good and tasty food, friendly helpful staff, excellent waterfront view, bill came in well within budget for our anniversary celebration.
First time there and it will not be the last! Food was great!
Innovative menu and great service with a great view! Great for lunch and the arts!
My friends had never been to Cafe Calatrava and one had never been to the Art Museum. When they came into Milwaukee for a get-together, this was the first place we headed to. They loved it. Thanks for the memborable experience and never letting me down.
I was really disappointed that having a reservation did not mean that a decent table was literally saved for us. We had the worst table in the place - in the very back next to a large glass window. Right outside the window was cobwebs, bugs, etc. The tables in the front of the restaurant looked out over the lake. Our service was rather slow, we had empty plates in front of us for 15 minutes with no attention from our waiter while I could hear the manager tell people that it would be a 15-20 wait to be seated. I was very frustrated with the whole experience.
If you haven't been here, you should come! If you were here before they hired Chef Jason Gorman, you should come back!
Chef Gorman has always impressed me with his skill at developing flavors and understanding the importance of texture and appearance in the composition of his dishes. This makes him makes him a great fit for the Milwaukee Art Museum!
Whipped Smoked Salmon with Dill, Capers, Tomatoes,Lemon and Za'atar Flatbread.
The different ingredients in this course all worked together to produce a lovely result. Not to strongly Salmon flavored, not to acidic, just perfectly creamy and lightly smoked. The Za'atar dusted flatbread added a needed crunch and a little spice.
Saffron Rigatoni with Lump Crab
One of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. Perfectly Al Dente handmade pasta, with Saffron worked right into the dough was tossed with Grape Tomatoes, Basil, Garlic, Olive Oil and a generous portion of the star of the show, Lump Crab! This was a special, but if it were on the regular menu I'd come here just for it.
A twist on traditional Tiramisu made with Sprecher Imperial Stout.
When this came to my table, I didn't think I could take more than a bite or two, but it was so good I easily joined the clean plate club! As for the beer, which did have me a little worried, it actually worked fine. You could tell something was different from the traditional Tiramisu, but the beer didn't punch you in the mouth to announce its presence. Which, in this case, is a good thing. Service is friendly and efficient and they are Wheelchair Accessible.
