Went for a meal for two on a weekend evening and were not especially impressed - the place has an odd feel to it - the management are clearly keen to try and be everything to everyone, so there's a cocktail bar/pub/restaurant, with loud music - which is nice atmosphere in the bar, but a bit odd in the restaurant (the whole thing is open plan). The staff were all very good and helpful - though we did have to move tables having sat down as a large group turned up who had apparently booked and there'd been a mix up.
The food was definitely average - I had North African spiced lamb, which was very well cooked, but no taste of spice at all; my partner had rack of lamb - again excellently cooked, but the knife given was useless and when I asked for a steak knife (happily provided - good staff!) it was fairly useless too - we both agreed that the dishes had been well prepared but never actually tried by anyone. Given that the bill for a bottle of wine and 2 mains came to over £55, it definitely wasn't worth that amount - a shame.
Café Café has a fun, lively atmosphere with excellent food, a wide-ranging menu and delicious cocktails. They were very accommodating when I had to adjust my booking. I went for my birthday and had a brilliant time.
Very bland and tasteless food. Main and sides had no taste. Desert was okay but overall disapointing food especially following recommendations from elsewhere.
Service was good and nice venue.
I always come here. I love the food! Would definitely recommend!
I'd have walked past this restaurant if a friend hadn't already recommended it to us. The menu we'd already previewed online and I'd been looking forward to it all week and it did not disappoint. The choice was excellent and there was plenty of fish and meat choices, I could easily have eaten there all week and not been bored with the food. The service was good, and the setting nice enough, the mains were excellent value, the wine and starter value was fairly typical, with only the cocktails which I felt could have been slightly better value perhaps.
We all had an excellent evening and would certainly go back!
Sorry but we were extremely underwhelmed at this restaurant. The halloumi was lovely but where was the Gado Gado salad? Was it that leaf on top? My lamb shank looked overdone and was completely bland - where were the morrocan spices? The mash & the wine were good. My friends were similarly disappointed I'm afraid - the chips were pale and flaccid, the chicken pie was swimming in a soup rather than gravy but oh yes the mash was good! The staff whilst trying hard were perhaps a bit young & under trained. It was very loud with small tables and quite frankly, cheap & nasty cutlery. And to pay £80 for this ( mushroom starter £6-£7 for one mushroom) !!! No we cannot recommend - this restaurant is trying to be something it most definetely is not - I think maybe it should concentrate on the bar which by the sound of it was extremely popular!
The food was great with a large selection of specials. The wine was reasonable and of a good quality. The service was shocking considering how much we paid for our meal we had limited interaction. The only time staff actually spoke was to initially ask for drinks and our main meal. Their idea of service was to stand at the edge of our table, waiting for us to speak.
Convenient location to Harrow School, all three meals were of good quality and served promptly, will certainly go there again. Can be busy so book in advance.
Took two friends to the restaurant and we had a great time. The waitress didn't offer us the set dinner menu which included a glass of wine until I asked. By that time we had ordered a bottle of wine, so we queried that and the waitress agreed to take the price of a glass of wine from the bottle of wine, which was fine. The food was excellent as usual. The only thing the restaurant should note , is that your waitress or waiters should be able to describe even if only briefly what the food is, not say I don't know and leave it like that! We had to ask her to find out for us. Great food, Great atmosphere and the set menus are value for money.
Food was great but due to large parties at the bar area it was so noisy you were unable to talk at your table only shout at each other!
This restaurant had amazing service waitresses were on point there for whatever we needed. Parking wasn't a problem as there is parking outside or available on the same Street. We were greeted with smiles and given a selection of tables to choose from, the menu has a healthy balance of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes both in starters and mains. The food came out fairly quickly was really well presented, portion sizes were good and it tasted fantastic. Overall including service and meal was a really good choice and I'd recommend this restaurant to all.
I used to eat here regularly about ten years ago. I booked for an occasion . It was lunchtime and there were ten people in the restaurant. We were seated on a table for two in between and in close proximity to two other couples. I requested if we could be seated elsewhere for a bit more privacy but was told they were all reserved. We were in the restaurant for one and a half hours and in that time no one else came in. No more reservations so we felt we had been herded to suit the table staff and were very disappointed after hoping for a trip down memory lane.
I was disappointed there was no salad main options but ordered a caesar salad with chicken. The dish came with an overcooked 'rubberised' texture breast of chicken on top of two large torn and limp lettuce leaves and an overcooked new potato. I returned the dish. There was nothing else appetising for me.
Cafe Cafe needs to have a good look at itself in today's highly competitive market place. A good venue with poor fayre and poor service structure.
I always get the sea bass. It's so good.
If you haven't been I would definitely recommend to visit
Great atmosphere. Good food. Quick efficient service & good value for money.
Would definitely visit again.
Good for a girls' night out. Good atmosphere and good food. Service good despite busy night
Had a lovely evening celebrating a birthday, would go back again and take more people!
I have not been back here in years, upon my return the service had not changed from the bar staff. I walked in and waited near whom I assumed to be the manager and received a cursory glance but no further interaction as he turned his back and carried on talking to the bar staff. I find that incredibly rude, when the manager can see guests are waiting (there is no clear signange to suggest restaurant guests need to announce themselves en route to a table). I then walked to the restaurant area to seat myself when a waitress walked up and was much better meeting and greeting guests. The wine list is lovely and varied, the food was quite average for me although the prices were decent enough for Harrow. I would come back, but only to dine once in a while.
My wife and I went for a late lunch and it was lovely. The food was amazing and the service was just as good. The atmosphere within the place was just right with a great buzz about the place
The service was very good, the staff were welcoming and attentive. The starters (scallops and halllomi) and puddings (cheesecakes) were good. However the main was really disappointing, the fillet steaks were tasteless, even with a lot of salt and pepper. The "Cafe Cafe" chips are cut too large and therefore not cooked well to be enjoyed.
The seabass was wonderful. The sweet potato fries with it were more like wedges that went soggy, which was unfortunate as the rest of the dish was delicious.
It can be quite quiet in the restaurant hence the low ambience score, but the service is always good.
At first were seated in the food area but I informed the previous waiter we were there for drinks. Besides the move to the bar area, it seemed rather relaxed, the art on the wall allowed for myself to break the ice with a rather cool lady. Time passed quickly and we were not once asked for second drinks, which I found cool. In the end, great service ... I would give it 5/5 but the first waitress was rude.
My second visit to Cafe Cafe. The food was tasty as always, however I was alarmed by the fact the regular menu was replaced by a more expensive 'Mothers Day' menu. The £9 starter for me consisted of 3 scallops and for my mum, 3 prawns. Making it £3 per scallop/prawn. The apple juice was clearly no frills and heavily watered down with ice. I'd be sceptical about going here for a 3rd time without a special offer. The total bill was approximately £85 for 2 adults and 1 child. No desserts included. I left feeling rather disappointed.
First time dining here. Really nice and friendly staff. Nice atmosphere and lovely food. Would definitely go there again. Really impressed!
We did have a nice time but we did feel really really rushed.. just a few pointers:
- we got a big bread basket but only 2 pieces of bread - if you're not giving out much bread reduce the size of the basket as we just felt cheated. We did see another waitress give another table of two a huge bread basket with loads of bread in it.
- give us a couple of minutes to sit down and take our coats off before putting the menu in our faces..
- let us relax and wait to order - it was christmas eve, we would hardly be in a rush.. would be nice to just have a minute to read and discuss the menu.
- After the meal we ordered cosmopolitans which were quite sweet, not a classic cosmo, but my cosmopolitan had a clove in it - when i queried this with the waitress she said that the team had been using them the day before. However it took me to ask for a replacement, the waitress did not offer to replace it.
- venison needed a bit more flavour.
- think some of the tables are a bit too close together as when we were eating we sometimes got a waiter/waitresses behind in our faces as they were bending over to speak/listen to another table.
Would definitely be back for drinks/cocktails as its a great ambience.. but think the restaurant needs a bit of work if it is going to charge and serve what it does.
Cafe cafe is a really nice restaurant, friendly service and good value for money.
Very attentive staff and would recommend to anyone who want a really nice meal and ambience
Good Friday night hang out. Nice buzz, people seemed to be having a good time a bit loud but to be expected with a happy crowd.
A bit expensive but solid food and good service and atmosphere
This is our son's favourite place for lunch on "The Hill". Food is good quality, service sometimes a bit lackadaisical but overall a relaxed place for lunch. My only gripe is that there are no main or even side course salads on the menu, which is otherwise dominated by meat dishes.
Great night was had by all. Fantastic cocktail list... We tried plenty! Very good food - lots of choice (although, lots of fish, which neither my husband or I eat!) Would definitely go back.
Had a really great night at cafe cafe with a group of friends lovely atmosphere with brilliant cocktails and outstanding food that was really great value. I would recommend it to any friend and will certainly be going again!!
Went here for my partners birthday. We asked the waitress to take a photo of our group and as soon as one of my friends got up to join our side of the table he was told to hurry up as the waitress had things to do. HOW RUDE. Then the other female waitress. Blond. European. She made us feel we were bothering her when we asked for anything. I WAS SO WORRIED THEY WOULD OFFEND ONE OF OUR GUESTS I RESORTED TO GETTING OUR OWN SAUCES FROM THE FRONT. Really disappointed and glad the night was over. All out guests remarked how awful the service was. Food is good and reasonably priced. It is NOISY though. We were right at the back (which we had to argue to get) but the noise from the bar meant everyone had to shout to be heard. Won't go back again.
Great cocktails an evening with a difference! Food just gets better every time I come. Didn't have room for dessert this time but great choice
I went there for my husband birthday. We had the tiniest table possible in a corner, we ended up dining next to two big tables ( around 15 peoples on each table) so it was really noisy, the food was really hit and miss ( very bland starter but very nice main meal ), the service however was poor, we had to wait about 20 minutes before we could order some drinks, paying the bill was another 30 minutes wait and the toilets weren't very nice! But on the plus side their cocktails were really nice, I don't think I'll ever go back there for a meal but might pop in for a cocktail.
Nice food and service but in my opinion somewhat over-priced.
The location on the hill is lovely, and the restaurant is a good size so it seats lots of people without feeling cramped, and maintains a nice buzzy atmosphere.
It is quite expensive, working out at around £40 per head for 2 courses and soft drinks only. The food is average. I had duck breast which was quite bland and very bloody. I had to send it back to be cooked a little longer. The vegetable accoutrements were small portions.
The service was quite surly and not very inviting.
All in all an ok meal but I doubt I'll go back again.
Despite all the variable reviews on Tripadvsior, we had a lovely Valentine's dinner. The hostess who welcomed us and looked after us throughout the whole meal was most attentive, cheerful, helpful and most hospitable. And appropaitely discrete too! We could not fault her at all. All our food arrived as requested. The food was very well presented and tasty. Very generous portions. Definitely we coudl go back to Cafe Cafe for another meal.
Good food. Great ambience. Very relaxed environment
We have been to cafe cafe for drinks many times and have always enjoyed it. We decided to try the restaurant but unfortunately we were both very disappointed. The food did not seem to have fresh ingredients and looked like a freezer meal which had been warmed up. We sent the steak back as it was very raw. Although we ate most of it we found it to be, pricey, just edible and on the whole unsatisfactory. A great shame as we have always enjoyed our evenings in the bar.
I have been to Café Café many times and always enjoyed it, although this is first time I booked through Top Table. I arranged this for a group of friends (who hadn't dined here before) - as a pre-xmas celebration meal. We had viewed the choice of xmas menus online, and were looking forward to these - only to be told on arrival we couldn't order from these as we had to notify them in advance if xmas menu was required - although nowhere on the Top Table website (or their own) does it say this. We ordered from the à la carte menu instead, which was OK, however not the christmassy fare we had been looking forward to - and also proved more expensive that some had budgeted assuming we'd have the set menu. Disappointing.
Bear in mind that we notified them at 8.20 we had arrived for a 9.00 table we were told we could take our seats at any time. As we went to have a drink a fight broke out next to us - not a great start! At 8.40 we went to sit down only to be told there was a slight problem - they had given our table to someone else. Whilst some members of staff were very apologetic others weren't remotely bothered. We finally sat down for our main course at 10.15. By this stage one of our party had gone past hunger and just felt sick. To be fair, our drinks were free and we had had two rounds of cocktails and two large bottles of water. We were apologised to again and offered a lovely glass of champagne. Unfortunately It still put a dampner on the evening
