About Café Boulud

Café Boulud is Chef Daniel Boulud’s reimagined French Brasserie located in the Four Seasons Hotel in Yorkville, Toronto. The restaurant serves a seasonally changing menu rooted in French tradition, highlighting both bistro classics and contemporary dishes inspired by Chef Daniel’s family meals in Lyon.

A gleaming rotisserie is used to slow-roast chicken à la broche, whole lobster, and even rum-scented pineapple. We are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, and offer brunch on Sundays.

Designed by Martin Brudnizki of London. The vintage-inspired ambiance is highlighted by a comfortable lounge and wraparound banquettes, a dining counter, and a semi-private room that accommodates up to eight guests. The restaurant has received several accolades since its renovation including Best Restaurant in Canada at the Notable Awards and Canada's Hundred Best Restaurants.

Came here once before and the meal was fantastic. 2nd time here for belated valentine weekend. Apps were better than the mains. Wife orders steak medium rare and it arrives well over. Sends it back. We thought second steak would arrive shortly. I finish my main.. And her steak shows up 5 minutes later and it still wasn't a perfect medium rare. So basically I ate mine with her staring at me and she ate hers with me staring at her. Just terrible.

We also ordered an expensive wine. Waiter comes and pours remaining bottle. Then takes it away with at least a full glass remaining. We thought he did this thinking they are bringing extra glasses of something special for the steak screw up. Nope. I'm sorry.. But everyone knows the mark up of wine, and then we lose a glass on a bottle. Not acceptable. It felt like this place just can't operate well while it's busy. We won't come again.

Cafe Boulud has been consistently good every time I’ve gone with my wife. Brunch and dinner has attentive service; the food is fantastic with great portions; and it has a nice ambiance that isn’t distracting when you’re trying to talk. It’s definitely our place for special occasions now.

Sorry I cannot give this restaurant a great review. I had high expectations and the restaurant came short of these expectations. I understand that this restaurant is under a great chef who serves up bistro inspired French food. Overall, I think the food lacked interest and taste. It was very bland, save for the deserts, which were tasty and imaginative. I ordered salmon trout and while it was competently cooked, it was tasteless, no citrus, no herbs, nothing but a piece of fish on a plate with vegetables and potatoes. My friend ordered duck and it was also pretty tasteless. Sorry, I would have liked to have said better things but just feel that I cannot lie.

My friend and I both ordered steak frites for lunch. The fries were the worst we have ever had with steak frites. Either they are just really bad or were sitting around for a long time and got cold. The décor in the restaurant was nice enough and the chairs were comfortable. My friend said that her steak was undercooked. Dessert was just average. Quite a disappointment for a restaurant in a Four Seasons.

Everything was excellent. The service was quick, the food was delicious and the staff were friendly. I was here at lunch with a friend and have previously been to Cafe Boulud for dinner. The main difference was the lighting. The interior lighting was too bright during the day. I enjoyed the ambiance when I was there for dinner. It made me feel like my friend and I were alone in a busy room. I was expecting that same feeling at lunch. This is a minor opinion. Everything was lovely otherwise.

Our dinning experience was wonderful! The food was delicious and a visual masterpiee. The only thing I would have changed is to be seated away from the sever's utensil and glass station. It was a bit noisy listening to clanging utensils and glasses as our table was way to close to it.

Came for Winterlicious lunch -- and were disappointed. Apart from the amazing steak (and average frites), the remainder of the meal disappointed. The smoked salmon salad was not interesting and had very little salmon; the terrine was dry. The quenelles lacked any identity in terms of including any pike -- there was no evidence of fish, either in texture or in flavour. They were very disappointing although the sauce was delicious. We came with feelings of anticipation and left with that anticipation unmet. Too bad!

Great food as always! The service was good and waitstaff was very attentive. It was a bit noisier than I remember and I didn't love the new renovation.....I liked how the restaurant was before as it was a bit more upscale. Still very good overall, and I very much enjoyed hearing the live music from below.

Service was top notch, thank you to our very capable, friendly but unobtrusive waiter (Razin). I enjoyed the Winterlicious food (onion soup, lamb shank). This was my 3rd or 4th time at Boulud and it's always been very good - elegant, but not pretentious.

My partner and I went to Café Boulud during winterlicious, as the event provides a great opportunity to explore restaurants we haven't tried before. We weren't disappointed--in fact, Café Boulud is now one of our favourites and we are looking forward to return to try their usual menu.

We chose the wine-pairing option, which at $25 per person was a great way to go given that the sommelier picked excellent wines to accompany our food.

The salmon terrine appetizer was wonderful, but the star of the meal had to be the seared trout. With deliciously crispy skin and flaky flesh. The ice-cream profiteroles were quite impressive, too.

I highly recommend Café Boulud and I will be returning very soon.

I'd been to Café Boulud before for dinner and it was divine. This time, I invited clients to Winterlicious. Everything was just OK. The steak dish was mostly frites and one of my guests said the steak was so tough, he couldn't finish it. Another guest couldn't find the fish in the pike dish - the main item was rather bready. The vegetarian dish was OK, but I wouldn't order it again. The onion soup, on the other hand, was wonderful - give that dish a 5.

Above, I was asked if I would recommend Café Boulud to a friend. I would, but would say the food is inconsistent. Maybe they just held back on the Winterlicious menu.

First, our reservation made on Open Table was immediately confirmed by a call from Cafe Boulud. Last Sunday, the hostesses greeted us warmly, offered to take our coats, and seated us in a lovely table by the window (unfortunately they keep the drapes closed) The server was attentive and very polite (referring to us by Mr and Mrs H___) The Sunday brunch was wonderful, as you can select a 2 or 3 course option. I started with a french toast with cream, rhubard and berries on top. My main was a delicious eggs florentine, and a fresh side salad. Others at our table enjoyed fish, chicken and vegetarian options. Portions are quite substantial. It was my daughter's 24th birthday; at the end of our brunch they brought her a plate with "Happy Birthday' written in chocolate and accompanied by small pastries. We did not request this, nor did we indicate whose birthday it was (she was the one drinking several Mimosas and this perhaps gave it away?) Regardless, it's the attention to detail and superb service that make a great dining experience--and of course the food has to be memorable. The price for four of us was $250. You can take advantage of Valet parking as well ($15/three hours) It has been so cold in Toronto this is a welcome treat. The Four Seasons is elegant, quiet and has some interesting contemporary art to enjoy.

I went there for brunch on Saturday and the experience wasn't great at all. Upon arrival, I gave my name to the hostess to find my reservation. I booked a table for two at 1pm. I arrived on time but my friend was running a little late. After the hostess found my reservation, I was told that they would only accommodate me to sit when my friend arrived. Well, I was a bit surprised by their response. First, I arrived at my reservation time; second, there were plenty of empty tables at the restaurant ; third, there were very few people at the reception to check-in for their reservations. In a word, they were not busy at all! Why should I stand at the waiting area instead of letting met sit down at a table? Finally, they let me sit down, but the hostesses have ruined my first impression about this restaurant.
The waiter who served our table was professional. That's a plus!
Then talking about the food, I wouldn't say my expectation was high, but the food there were below the average of the restaurants I've tried. I ordered the steak tartar as the appetizer (this appetizer made me sick in the rest of the afternoon, ugh!). The duck parmentier was my main course, the flavor was good, but I think there was put a lot MSG in the food I felt very thirsty afterwards. My desert was the chestnut cake, the cake texture was so dry which didn't seem to be fresh. Overall, it wasn't a delightful experience and it wasn't worth for the money either. There are a lot of restaurants out there with cheaper price which can deliver much better food and services. I don't think I would go back there again.

Went for winterlicious. The menu choices wasn't spectacular or creative, but traditional/ordinary French cuisine. But the food was made with very high quality. Very good ingredient, nicely made, fine dinning. Love it!
