Cafe Blue is ALWAYS a good choice for brunch, lunch or dinner. The food is consistently good and the wait staff is always pleasant. This visit I met friends for Brunch - we enjoyed to special selections and the wide variety of items. Food arrives in a timely manner - hot, appealing and tasty! The restaurant will soon be moving to a new location - we look forward to having the option of patio dining.
If you haven't had the Thursday prime Rib you are missing one of the best out there. The Cafe Blue is a lovely place to dine albeit on the noisy side due to the hard floors and walls. The food is always good and reasonably priced for the quality of food and service. Recommended..
My wife and I have been to the restaurant a couple of times and it is always very good. My wife got seafood both times and I had the seafood once and a steak the other time. We were very pleased with the food and the ambiance. This last time we went was Valentine's Day and service was very good and our food came out very quickly. We will definitely go there again.
Cafe Blue is a gem in the Texas Hill Country and one of our favorite spots for lunch, brunch, and dinner. Their menu is imaginative and eclectic, and the quality of service and food is consistently very good; the value is hard to beat.
We celebrated Valentine's Day by enjoying their brunch, and despite being extremely busy, we were seated precisely at the time of our reservation and the service was attentive and personable. I had the Classic French Toast plate and my wife had the Surf and Turf Eggs Benedict. Both were delicious, and the price was very reasonable.
Pro tip: If you go for brunch on Saturday or Sunday (or lunch any day), give their signature Red Headed Stranger bloody mary a try!
Note that Cafe Blue will soon (within the next few weeks) be moving to a larger location in the central part of the Galleria, as the shopping center continues to consolidate all the restaurants in one section.
We drove an hour to get here from our home for Valentine's Dinner. First time to eat here and it was completely worth it! I had the Drunken Beef Tenderloin and I savored every bite. My husband had the shrimp brioche and was in heaven. We had the calamari to start and it was some of the best we've ever had. Friendly service, nice atmosphere and reasonable prices. A hidden gem that we will be returning to!
First, on the food, this was the best seafood to be had anywhere in the Austin area. The seafood tower was incredible and everything was fresh and had wonderful tastes. I ordered the stuffed shrimp and my wife had the redfish. I don't usually like ceviche, mainly due to fishy tastes, but this was an awesome mix of fruit and fish and it left a sweet taste in your mouth. Not to mention it was about twice as much as we expected.
Drinks were a bit strong for our liking, but that is nothing to complain about for most people.
My only issue is that I had reserved a table a few weeks in advance for Valentine's Day with my new wife. I had intended everything to be special, which is why I did make the reservation well ahead of time. When I booked the table, I included the note that I wanted a great table for that night.
Well the night rolls around and we arrive and everything is going good, then we are seated at quite possibly the worst table in the place. It was in the middle of the room, tables all around, with no privacy at all, and the view of the bar, waiting area, or the sidewalk didn't do it for me. Apparently it was just what was available and they had no actual reserved table. So the reservation was pretty useless.
Thankfully a booth opened up and I quickly inquired if we could move to it, which they obliged. If that had not have happened, it had the potential to ruin a tremendous night.
Our server Reagan and the staff were excellent as well, I have not had better service from a server anywhere else.
This was our first time to Cafe Blue. We live about 30 minutes away in a more rural area and the Bee Cave area is the closest for restaurant variety. This was recommended to us my a business associate. Our anniversary was 2-12 just a couple of days before Valentines day. We made a reservation and informed them it was our anniversary. When we arrived they had a terrific table reserved for us. It was happy our and the bar area had a good vibe. We had a great server "Jenna" who was attentive and helpful. Drinks and food were awesome. The prices are on the high side but not excessive. BTW the calamari was awesome as was their signature desert "Key Lime Pie". To our surprise the manage discounted our meal about 5% for our anniversary. I very nice gesture. net net. Would highly recommend and will definitely return.
Nine of us went to Cafe Blue for brunch to celebrate two birthdays. Loved the environment and the warm friendly greeting from the hostess was so appreciated. Our server was very attentive and the food was delicious. The only thing we've found since we moved to Texas is that food is, more times than not, just warm when it's served. Nine out of ten restaurants we visit all serve "just warm" food. It was the same at Cafe Blue and we did mention it to our server. We will definitely go back as we really loved the dining experience, but will ask them to make sure our food is hot before they serve it.
We scheduled Cafe Blue for our 43rd wedding anniversary to avoid the long drive into Austin for a more upscale seafood restaurant. We had been to Cafe Blue previously a couple of times. Unfortunately, our anniversary and the accompanying reservation fell on a Wednesday. That is Cafe Blue's one half price wine night. It was packed. Good for them. Bad for us. They indeed had our table ready and waiting. We were seated quickly and professionally in the back room (good), in the back corner booth (good), next to a sliding pocket door to a very large and occupied private dinning room (very bad). The participants in the private room insisted on slamming open the door numerous times, and when not entering and exiting, would just stand at the door on top of our table and gab or talk on their cell phones. Additionally, our waiter, Chis, admitted only working there for one and one half months. He informed us that he had the menu "pretty well down", but had "no idea" about the wine list. That was obvious. When I ordered our bottle of wine, I specifically gave him the name, varietal, vintage, etc. I even asked if he wanted me to show him the wine entry on the wine list to make sure we received the correct wine. He said "no thanks." When he arrived at our table finally, he had the proper winery name, but brought their "white" varietal assuming that I had ordered a white, since, in his words, "everyone else ordered that one." I had ordered a red burgundy. I assume that he brought a white burgundy but perhaps it was a chardonnay, as it was in a chill vessel. BTW, this is the first time ever that a restaurant establishment that was notified in advance of our special occasion never acknowledged it. It was a miserable evening for us, and I told my wife that I wished we had made the drive into town to Trulucks. I find it hard to believe that Cafe Blue carries the same star rating as Trulucks at 4.5 to 5 stars on Open Table. We will vote with our feet and not return.
They had our reservation for 4 even though I had made it late in the day. They accommodated our request for a booth. Service was absolutely excellent. My favorite when dining with a friend is to sit at the bar. Plenty of room, good service and a nice repartee with the bartender and other service persons. As long as all the good things remain the same, I am a multi-repeat customer.
The woman who seated us went above and beyond in accommodating our search for the "quietest" spot. We were very happy with the 3rd location. Happily we were there early so there were several to choose from. As the evening progressed, business picked up but our waiter was appropriately attentive and the food was excellent! I had the Caesar salad with crab cake. It was terrific!
The food is always great at Café Blue and I love sitting in the front room and people watching out the floor to ceiling windows. We had an outstanding waiter who was attentive my husband likes his fish sautéed and it came out just the way he liked it. I had the rotisserie chicken and was great as usual. Also got to try the rolls, they are delicious.
Our dinner was great, salads and entrees, great value for the what we paid. However, Cafe Blue charges about 3 1/2 to 4X over retail for a bottle of wine. This is not right, why charge so much? I would hesitate to come back to Cafe Blue because of their very high wine prices.
Experience was great from walking in the door through key lime pie dessert for my wife's birthday ( provided with compliments of the restaurant).
Booth was waiting for us per my request.
All meals well prepared including not always easy very rare steak for my wife. My fish prepared very nicely.
We came here on a normally slow night ( tuesday) because of the birthday but restaurant was moderately busy. Still, great service and attention to detail.
Our second time there. we'll be back.
I made a special point to tell them it was my husbands birthday. There was no mention or special anything that most restaurants do when they know its' a birthday. No singing, just an extra little dessert. I mentioned it to the hostess as we left. I was disappointed on our second visit. There are so many good restaurants in Austin, that I didn't think it was worth the drive.
Terrific seafood - we think the best in Austin! We are from the Houston area and used to getting great seafood. After moving to Austin and looking for a place that offers superior seafood we finally found it in Cafe Blue. Not only is the seafood the best in town but so is the waitstaff and the atmosphere. We make it a weekly occasion.
As usual, just okay. We'll go back, but mostly due to not wanting to drive all the way downtown... Food is okay but overpriced for the quality. Wine list is average for an upper-end restaurant but severely overpriced. Service is usually average but better this time. A GM that "gets it" would make some minor tweaks and a few big changes - and this would be a great restaurant, one well suited to downtown Austin...
