About Café Bistro - Nordstrom Palo Alto
Enjoy a view of the exhibition kitchen in a vibrant cafe that delivers our interpretation of bistro cuisine, including soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza and desserts. Beer and wine are available.
Café Bistro is our approach of an upscale yet casual restaurant, located on the third floor of Nordstrom, near the At Home department, in the Stanford Shopping Center. The French doors and exhibition kitchen create an energetic environment that reveals a stage for our chefs to prepare uniquely designed dishes. The Cilantro Lime Shrimp Salad and Bistro Club are two of our top sellers. In addition to the menu, we also prepare outstanding food & drink specials on a weekly basis. We have a great selection of wine & beer available, and the house made desserts are must!

Café Bistro - Nordstrom Palo Alto Ratings and Reviews
We love this place, but on this particular occasion, with four of us for lunch:
1. Two of us got our food and the food for the other two came almost 5minutes later
2. Soup was delivered without a spoon; by the time the spoon came, the soup was cold
3. We shared the above with our server. She took $23 off the bill, but when we added dessert to the order, the $23 wound up back on the bill
Still, the food was excellent, and our server was very pleasant.
I was greeted and seated in the booth requested right away. My friends and I enjoyed delicious Asian chicken salads and split a wonderful margharita pizza. Our server was right there when needed but left us alone to chat when we didn’t need her. Great place to meet friends for lunch!

I'be been to Nordstrom's Cafe Bistro in the City (S.F.) & enjoyed the food & ambience. This was my first trip to the Palo Alto cafe; found the ambience & food disappointing. Perhaps it was an off night for them or perhaps we didn't order the right dishes (fried calamari greasy; not light); just average (even my son said he could have made the pasta dish himself).
Ordered the Pizza as always the pepperoni mushroom pizza was excellent. I have been coming here for years and the pizza has always been served with a thumbs up. The Service was excellent and Rosa is always a delight to see and talk to. I wish you would bring back the Mango Sorbet desert which was excellent. But your coffee unfortunately, needs improvement. Please order an espresso machine, because I know that you can serve much better coffee and make more money.
We had sauce prawns and linguine with spicy red sauce, very good. I had a very tender, not dry, half boneless chicken on pomme frites. Gelato/sorbet for dessert. It was slow and the FOH employees gravitated to the p/u station at the exhibition kitchen. We were seated at a both directly across from the cook's line and felt like we were intruding in the employee break room. Not cool.
We went to Café Bistro for lunch prior to going on the open house tours of the new LPCH. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The French onion soup was simply awesome, tasty with lots of melty cheese on top. It was very hot, which I appreciate. The crab bisque was also good, but could have been hotter - it was lukewarm. The berry and fig salad was incredible, with a great dressing that was very light. We had ordered chicken to go with it, which was very dry and bland and the only disappointment. The waitress was very patient with my son, marking up a club sandwich into the BLT that he wanted. The crab mac and cheese was creamy with the pasta not overcooked, but again, could have been hotter.
Very good food & service with a menu featuring numerous delicious salads, pizzas, entrees, and sandwiches. My wife and I enjoyed the crab/avocado/mango salad as well as a chicken Caesar salad with a side of fries. The waiter frequently checked-in on us and refilled our beverages. Cafe Bistro is an excellent choice for lunch, particularly when at the Stanford Shopping Center.
Reservations recommended on weekends! The pasta with crab was very good. The turkey pastrami was delicious! And the roasted Brussels sprouts a must have! Overall a pleasant experience. Servers could be better trained and polished. "Hey guys, I'll be right there" is not appropriate even if my mom and I were peers of the server.
Love the cilantro shrimp salad and every girl friend that I have brought there loves the same. The only reason I gave 4 stars is that sometimes service is very slow when it gets busy, and also because it is so noisy there that sometimes you can barely carry on a conversation.
I have eaten at the Bistro many times, and their food seems to be declining, both in choice and quality. Two things I have enjoyed (hummus platter and mushroom/onion pizza) have been eliminated. Also, once when I asked to change goat cheese to feta in a salad, I was charged extra! As a vegetarian, they now have very little I can eat. I had a Burrata/pesto/tomato/bread dish which was tasty. However, the piece of bread was tiny, and the tomatoes were tasteless. Since it is now tomato season, I expected wonderful, tasty, ripe tomatoes. My friend and I decided we probably would not return.
Cafe Bistro has a terrific selection of tasty salads, sandwiches, and entrees with very good service and reasonable prices. My family's favorites include the chicken Caesar salad, Asian chicken salad, Bistro Club with French Fries, pizza, and crab macaroni.
The restaurant is often crowded so reservations are suggested.
The Bistro continues to have above average food and their service while not great is above average. Their French dip is one of the best in the Bay area. But the noise level is very high and that makes the overall experience way less than average. It is difficult to hear one's partner at the same table. Sad because the noice level could be reduced by acoustic tiles and banners and quieter talking among the chefs.
The food at Cafe Bistro was delicious and the service was excellent, as my party enjoyed chicken Caesar salad, pepperoni & mushroom pizza, and a turkey pastrami sandwich with fries. There were numerous other salads/entrees on the menu that were most tempting, and i'l definitely return to Cafe Bistro in the near future.
Food has really gone downhill. Two salads with brown avocado. Very unappetizing. The toast served with it was very stale. The chicken Caesar was good, the parmesian crisp was also stale. The French fries are dry and seem old. We talked to the manager and she did comp our meals, not sure what has happened. Not sure we will return.
