Café Bionda Ratings and Reviews
My son was in town for a conference so was a good choice as it was close to his south Loop hotel. Moderately priced and the food was very good and authentic Italian. I had the Chicken Francese and Avacado wedge salad with the grilled calamari appetizer appetizer for the table. Was very yummy. Server was timely and the restaurant manager came to our table after the meal to make sure that we were happy (we were). Nice wine selection that was not too pricey and very nice. We will be back!
We are frequent visitors to Bionda, one of our neighborhood faves! While the food was amazing as usual, our food took almost 50 minutes (there was a good crowd, but it wasn't crazy)... And the noise level was very high... We will still return as we all have favorite meals to come back to!!!
As usual Cafe Bionda did not disappoint. The pasta with mussels is outstanding and I always bring some home. My friend had the stuffed ravioli and finished all of it - quite a feat. The wine and martinis were really good after a hard day of sight-seeing. This is a neighborhood restaurant for me and I feel so lucky.
Cafe Bionda is an excellent neighborhood restaurant. The food is always very good, and the staff is warm and welcoming. The outdoor area has been improved over the past couple of years, with plants serving as a barrier to State street traffic, but the traffic is not all that bad in any event. I like Cafe Bionda quite a bit.
I usually always prefer to try new restaurants but I keep coming back to cafe bionda. Great service, great drinks, and the best Italian food in the city. I could eat the eggplant rotollo and rigatoni alla vodka everyday for the rest of my life. It is a little pricey, but I think it's worth it.
Food was delicious! Server could have been a bit more knowledgeable with menu, but was still very nice. Was also quite surprised at how casual (yoga pants) the employees' uniforms are for a nicer restaurant on a saturday night. Overall, nice dining experience. Patio is cute! I plan to go back!
Super disappointed. - Amazing reviews led us here.... but apparently Chicago Italian is a different thing from east coast Italian.
Hostess was the best part of the night.... Professional, smiling, and helpful.
The guy bringing water and clearing the tables was also 100% on point. Although... Linen table covers topped with butcher paper it's a little odd.... and not what I was hoping for.
The waiter...We found Spicoli from Ridgemont High....lovely
and who the hell puts the Bee-Gee's on the radio in an Italian restaurant??
Grilled Calamari... ok, if you say so. Sure tasted like boiled and sitting in 1/4" of oil, I ate 2 of the 4 they brought. the tentacles were nice and crispy but not the body. *uggggh
Gnocchi, well...it's a stew really. Seriously... it's the consisntency of a beef stew with all the sauce, peas, mushrooms ands the sausage tasted like cajun. No where near Italian. It comes in a high sided cereal bowl big enough to feed a great dane.
Linguine Alfredo - Lobster. - A lot like above. it's damn near a stew with all the sauce and extras. It's no Alfredo sauce I've ever seen. A spicy red sauce? really?? Lobster chucks were small, almost ground up except for a couple small claw pieces....and it comes in the biggest cereal bowl I've ever seen.
Maybe this is the way Chicago does Italian, so maybe locally it's the bomb... but for an east coaster in an Italian household... it missed the mark by a mile.
Should have gone for a deep dish....
I took 6 customers to this Italian restaurant for a dinner after a convention. It is a small, inviting venue perfect for casual dining and conversations. It was a little on the louder side and not very conducive for a group much larger than the one I had attending. Very good food and a fun, energetic wait staff; a well stocked wine and bar menu; and convenient location. I would definitely go back and recommend for similar outings.
It was good, not great Italian food. Pasta was a little over cooked. An Italian restaurant should ALWAYS have perfectly cooked al dente pasta. It's a requirement!
Hubby said eggplant parm was excellent.
For Italian, I thought it was a little overpriced being that pasta is one of the least expensive staples.
