Café Bionda Ratings and Reviews
I was excited to try this restaurant after all the good reviews. Everything was wonderful with the exception of the lack of attention from the waitress. Our water glass was never half empty (thanks to other staff), food was amazing, but we ordered dessert (a cake they bake after you order - it takes 15 min. to bake). well, after 25-30 min of patiently waiting we had to leave to make a show across town so we did not have dessert. Maybe it is the long slow Italian meal thing, but it seemed to be lacking. Apparently, a large group in the back was sucking up all the staff, which the waitress even mentioned as the reason why we did not get our dessert soon. Its not that small of a restaurant that service for everyone else should suffer.
Food was great, service not very good. They were understaffed and I never recieved my salad and it took forever to get the drinks, and desert. Waiter was apologetic, don't think it was his fault, just understaffed. Table that we sat at was terrible, almost in the aisle at the end of the half wall dividing a seating area and the bar which was loud due to sox game being watched.
I've been coming to Cafe Biond's for years, and the food is consitantly delicious. The service is always outstanding. No other restaurant comes close to having the best grilled calamari, and chicken parm. Love the escarole and beans too. The manager, Paul, makes sure his guests are happy, and we always are.
Food is always great but unfortunately we were seated in the back room which is dark and not as nice as the front one. Next time I will wait for a table in front. Also I had mentioned that our friends were celebrating the wife's birthday. They said they would take care of it. Nothing was done. That was a little disappointing. We will go back because we love the food but it wasn't our greatest experience.
My husband and I really enjoyed this restaurant. The marinara sauce is great. I had the gnocchi which was excellent and a very generous portion. My husband the veal parmesan, it was huge and delicious! We both had leftovers since the portions were so large! Although the portions were generous and the food was good it is a bit pricey, $20 for gnocci is a little high and $2.50 for 8oz bottled diet coke is nuts. I don't understand why restaurants don't have fountain pop machines rather then serving cans or bottles, its more cost effective and is better for the enviroment because there is less waste. Other than that the place was brest. Also, the have valet parking for $10 but street parking is very easy and the meters are cheaper.
Really liked the food here. They give you very large portions so make sure that you come hungry! It is a bit small though... Very narrow areas and the dinning area is split up from the bar by a few walls that just don't belong. Will definitely be dining here again!
We are exploring the South Loop and were delighted to find this gem. We are very particular about Italian food and were not disappointed. The special manicotti was delicious and the portion more than generous. The Sunday salad (meatball and green salad) was a real treat and the salad dressing was very tasty. Service was wonderful and menu interesting - wonderful, homemade Italian food - just like grandma used to make! Can't wait to go back. So many wonderful menu choices - can't wait to try more!
Cross between great restaurant and sports bar. Has a very vibrant feeling. The cuisine is more Italo-American than purely Italian. Great marinara sauce. Wonderful veal parmigian. Loved the breadsticks with tomato sauce. It's a happening place which we enjoy. If you're looking for a quiet place, this is not your restaurant. It really has that active neighborhood restaurant feeling to it with good food. It isn't particularly inventive or memorable, but still it's very good. If we lived in the neighborhood, we'd be regulars.
I went for a light supper before a long play at the Goodman, and wanted a light supper and a glass of wine. I was delighted by the eggplant rotolo and a side of sauteed spinach (the latter to die for!) A nice glass of NZ Sauv Blanc and a cappuccino rounded out the light supper. On to The Iceman Cometh.
I was looking for a great Italian place to take my girlfriend for her birthday and Cafe Bionda delivered! The food was excellent (some of the best I've had in Chicago) and our waiter, Manny, was very attentive and made every effort to help me make the dinner special for my girlfriend. Not only did we stuff ourselves with pasta and great bread, but we were also able to enjoy a great birthday dessert (a surprise to not only my girlfriend, but myself as well) compliments of the restaurant!
I highly recommend Cafe Bionda if you're looking for a nice restaurant with great food and impeccable service!
I had pcked Cafe Bionda to meet a friend who was attending a conference at McCormick Place. The restaurant is well-located for such a purpose and I drove to the restauraunt. It's great that the Cafe has a parking lot. (space configuration is very tight!) Entering from the back is confusing - there is no one that greets you, so patrons need to make their way to the front to be seated. The restaurant has a large bar and the seating in the dining area is tightly spaced - a bit too tight. The food was fair - I had the rigatoni in vodka sauce and the quantity of cheese overwhelmed the sauce. My partner had a tilapia with shrimp special and it was well-prepared. The service was balanced, professinal and pleasant, but not extraordinary.
Went for a late night dinner, great service, great food. We got the Gravy sauce pasta, excellent, good marianara dipping with bread for appetizer too. The antipasti salad was served in a chopped style which was my only complaint. I also prefer antipasti with anchoives and tuna but I supposed that is personal preference. I would go back for sure to try other things on the menu.
Amazing all around - the pasta in vodka sauce and the shells are always winners, and the stuffed banana peppers with sausage are worth coming back for. Desert was decent, but the apps and mains are where they really shine. And pretty reasonably priced - 3 full courses + drinks for 2 came out to around $80!
The mussels are otustanding as are the scallop dishes with arugala. My dinner companions steak was very good as were the ravioli'had by the other diner. The service is usually fantastic, however this time the waiter was not as attentative as the waitresses during my other visits. This was the second time he has served us with the same results. However, the other wait staff I have had I would rate as very good to outstanding. This is a great neighborhood gem. I come here at least once a month.
