Good food and decent choice within 10 minute walk of convention center. Portions are huge, so better to split.
Overall great dinner experience
When we first arrived the hostess was engaged in an intent conversation with someone on the phone. After a minute or two of waiting, another couple came in. Shortly after that, and while the hostess was still on the phone, a gentleman in a suit came to the front desk and instead of asking who was next, he immediately asked the couple who came after us if they needed a table. This was a bit off-putting. As the man was getting a table for them, the hostess hung up and assisted us. My wife almost said something, but I said let it go. After that, we had extremely pleasant meals (the "Sunday Special" and a Caesar Salad with Calamari). The calamari was done perfectly, and the Sunday Special is comfort food at its best. Finally, our server was extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and excellent overall.
Good food but terrible service, the waitress only had two tables to take care of and would constantly disappear. I actually had to ask the maitre 'd to go find her once. Waitress seemed completely clueless. She didn't tell us about any specials and we had to ask for everything -- parmesan cheese for our pasta, a spoon for my cappuccino, the dessert menu. Also, in the middle of our meal, they turned on music so loud it was like being at a rock concert, and my friend and I literally could not hear each other talk. Used to be a favorite place, but not anymore.
As always, awesome dinner great service!!
Cafe Bionda is one of our go to's for dinner and cocktails with family or friends. Plenty of fav's on the menu as well as daily specials. Can't go wrong with the brick chicken or Nana's Gravy. Its all good. Excellent service, meals come out hot and quick. Great bar scene. Enjoy!
Pasta portions too small for the price. Bowls were the size of a cereal bowl. Use larger dishes.
This was my first visit. I was a little dismayed at the wait staff/bartender. This is what I would consider a nicer establishment. The wait staff/bartender were very young and didnt seem to know basic things. I asked what type of Oysters they offered and was told they are very good, they are chilled. Need I say more? Individuals need to be taught if they do not know. I expect a certain type of service when I go into this type of establishment and didnt feel I received it.
I ordered shrimp cocktail and it took 30 minutes to receive it. I am unsure what takes so long to prepare this dish. It took about 20 minutes to get a cocktail made. The bar/restaurant was fairly empty so this shouldnt have taken this long. In addition the happy hour menu is misleading. It states that shrimp cocktail is a $1 when in actuality it is $1 per piece of shrimp and I was not asked how many I even wanted. Ill consider going back but with great hesitation.
The food is great as always. I ordered pizza which is not on the menu but was recommended by a friend. Very good, thin crust pizza. I ordered sausage which is wonderful in any dish. My friend ordered chicken marsala . Marsala , while not on the lunch menu, was on the dinner menu and even though it was lunch, they made it for her. It was outstanding. I love a place that can work with you. The service was very good. My only gripe was I ran out of wine in the middle and had to flag him down. If we could have ordered a bottle it would not have been an issue, but we had different taste.
When it comes to a go-to place, especially if you’re into Italian, it doesn’t get any better than this. The brick chicken is sublime! Never stuffy, come as you are, food is fast, hot, and great! Forget the downtown crowds, this is Nirvana
Great food, service & drinks!
Love this place! Couldn't have asked for a better birthday celebration dinner. The manager, Tony, personally made sure everyone at our table was taken care of. Best Italian food I've had in the city and a great place for a quiet dinner and conversation - highly recommend.
Our server wasn’t great. Good guy, but it was almost like he couldn’t understand what we were asking even though he spoke perfect English. The sauce that came to the table with bread to start was overly spicy and then the sauce that came on the pasta wasn’t. The meatball on the pasta was incredibly good, but the chicken Marsala was very bland and I ate virtually none of it. Just a disappointment after being recommended to go there by a local.
Food was excellent! Service was perfectly balanced. Enjoy a great Italian meal here.
Real Chicago-style Italian.
Always great -People , Service , Ambiance We go at least once a month because we love it so much
Impeccable Service & Excellent Food.
Fantastic food and wine.
In town for a work meeting, came across this venue bc it was close to our hotel with lots of options. Good food, out-dated atmosphere. Good price point. Would consider it a “a local hole in the wall.”
Really good food. A bit pricey, but worth it for the quality. They have a full bar, but I wish they'd offer a cocktail menu.
Cafe Bionda is a neighborhood spot with consistently tasty, homestyle Italian food. We have enjoyed the calamari, the eggplant, and their pastas. Their salads are also good. Service can be spotty and slow. Wine list is extensive and features a lot of great Italian wines. Unfortunately, they are served at room temperature or even quite warm so for wine aficionados such as ourselves that does not bring out the best flavor. Also sometimes their wine glasses are not as clean as they should be. Atmosphere is that of a fun, neighborhood place. Lots of families, kids, babies, big groups. Relaxed atmosphere. Also can be noisy.
This was a dinner out with our team. We went here last year for dinner and enjoyed it so much we returned this year. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was great!
This is my 10 time back. I was in town for business and this is a gotta do when I am in Chicago. Great Food And Awesome Staff
Hole in the wall neighborhood gem. Excellent food. Fresh marinara. Nice ambience for group of friends or casual business dinner with colleagues.
Fantastic, as always. Living in the south loop, we love Cafe Bionda - will always be one of our spots!
Have been coming here every time im in town for the autoshow ,great food quiet comfortable atmosphere, attentive service.
I am a frequent guest at Bionda. Its nice going to a restaurant, seeing the same staff, and getting the same quality food every time. From the kitchen, to the bar, the longevity of employees working there adds the extra charm I look forward to each time. Food is genuine, wine list is varied, both in type and price. I enjoy the warm marinara and bread as the kick off to any meal.
We always are served right away but with snow storm they were short on staff. Yet their baked clams were to die for and their chicken Marsala with whole wheat linguine was so good I should not have shared. Their bread and warm piping hot marinara sauce is a great way to start meal. Never disappointed.
Outstanding Italian food that reminds you of the kind of food you were raised on if you were lucky enough to be raised in an Italian family! Great service, wonderful ambience, delicious food that makes you feel comfortable and full (huge portions!). You need to eat here. You're welcome.
Good was terrific. Wine list is 4 star. We loved the service and the server.
Veal was very tough, some portions I couldn't even cut with a knife.
Great food. Good service. Good value. Conveniently located. Worth the trip.
Consistently great Italian food! Love the warm bread and sauce.
My husband, Jack, is the one who went to lunch here with 5 others, and he said it was great food and great service !
Great experience, great food and great service!! Wine selection was very good and affordable.
Had a wonderful dinner! Food was amazing as was our service. Went back after Hawks game for a few drinks bartender was awesome. Wish we lived closer we would go more often.
We wanted to go somewhere we never been to before. I went to opentable and found this lovely place. The waiter was nice and attentive. Tgw food was good with great portions. With absolutely return.
Bring 20 plus people here once a year during the Chicago Boat Show. Love this place. Great food, service and ambiance. Highly recommended.
