Fantastic outdoor dinner at Cafe Berlin. Classic, delicious menu on a spacious, beautiful front patio. Will return again and again.
Cafe Berlin provided a wonderful experience. The Sauerbraten was out of this world good and the tripple hopped dark lager I had was amazing. We felt safe and secure and can't wait to go back.
Amazing authentic German food. We had the wurst feast. It was the best. Also you have to try the Apple strudel, buttery beyond belief
Cafe Berlin is a great place for Bavarian-style comfort food.
Very nice German restaurant. The food was similar to authentic German food. The inside seating area could have been a little better decorated in German style for a more authentic feeling. Overall a nice place with a tasty meal! Service was good with a friendly staff!
Our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Friendly, reliable, delicious.
Great food. Owner/chef. Excellent beer selection. Highly recommended.
Outstanding german food and the staff is excellent.
Cafe Berlin is trying very hard and doing a great job at complying with all current restrictions and providing a great experience. The staff was particularly attentive and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The fleece chair blankets for outdoor dining were a huge plus!
Excellent food, excellent service, Great selection of drinks, Conveniently located near Union Station.
Love it here! Always an enjoyable experience. They are doing great with all COVID restrictions as well.
We sat outside due to COVID restrictions but each table had a gas powered fire for warmth, a very nice touch and necessary for the cold.
Cafe Berlin has become my favorite place to eat, and I go there at least once during the week each month that I live in DC. Even now, with the return of the District to phase 2 coronavirus restrictions (no indoors dining), Cafe Berlin has an intimate outdoors patio with braziers or fire pits next to each table, and it’s delightful to sit beneath a Bavarian blue patio canopy and watch the passersby on Mass Avenue while enjoying delicious food and drink.
I try something different each time I’m there. The chef is outstanding and there are always new and seasonal additions on the menu. This time I started with a different take on Brussels sprouts, served hot and buttery and mixed with bits of ham and goat cheese. A great appetizer to warm up a coldish day, especially when paired with an Austrian Gewuerztraminer. Next came two thick, tender rings of osso buco on a bed of creamy grits, covered with porcini mushrooms and a rich, savory sauce. Cafe Berlin is very good with sauces. This dish wan nicely accompanied by an Austrian Zweigelt. The finish was - what else? - an Apfelstrudel, fresh from the oven. Sweet and crunchy on the outside and filled with softened apples, raisins and spices on the inside, the Strudel was made even better by a scoop of house-made vanilla ice cream. The glass of pear Schnapps to cap off the meal was Cafe Berlin’s signature finish.
You’d better make reservations ahead of time when you want to eat at Cafe Berlin. With limited outdoors seating, the patio tables fill quickly. But when you do arrive, I may be there too. We can raise a glass together. Zum Wohl!
Outdoor patio dining in the cold was very comfortable, with blankets and heaters, on top of the normal excellent hospitality, food/drinks, and service!
Outstanding place !! Will be back for sure ! Loved the outdoor fire pits
Brought Back Memories of Home!
I have been bringing my family to Cafe Berlin as a special x-mas treat for the past 5 years. I almost didn't book this year due to COVID but I am so glad we came. The food and cocktails were amazing. We love, love, love the Vorspeise (appetizer) platter. We also all had a cocktail before dinner and Jaegerschnitzel to eat. The atmosphere was quiet and we had the back room nearly to ourselves. We will be back again next year.
We ate inside with distance provided, and the decorations were wonderful. Outside in the beer garden were fire pits by the tables, which added to the festive scene. Cleaning was done as required and needed so we felt quite safe inside. Well done, Cafe Berlin.
Food and service excellent. Felt very safe from covid eating outdoors. Excellent
After a long hiatus, we visited again, on a nice Sunday afternoon when we could enjoy the lovely outdoor terrace at Cafe Berlin. We had a delicious meal of some of our German favorites we've been missing these during these many months of pandemic isolation!
We've been going to Cafe Berlin for many years, and have never been disappointed
Wonderful as always and the food was excellent. Our waiter was excellent
We had the goulash soup to start. Delicious. Then whole cod and boar meatballs. Out of this world delicious. We were raving about our dinner all weekend. The beer was fantastic and the service was lovely. Highly highly recommend.
Great place. Always excellent food and outstanding beer selection. Good wine list too
It’s always fun, authentic, heart-warming, and soul-satisfying to experience Cafe Berlin. They are culinary artisans and their menus, which evolve with the seasons, offer so many must-haves that you will want to keep coming back. Congenial, collegial, and great value! No reason not to come experience this authentic modern German restaurant for yourself. See you there soon.
Classic German cuisine perfectly prepared; tables widely spaced on their beautiful patio encircled by lit greenery; service was very efficient and friendly.
The goulash was amazing. My partner and friends enjoyed their food as well. Our server was nice. A bit pricey, but worth it. Will go back again.
One of favorite places
The food was delicious and the staff so considerate as well as knowledgeable about the entrees(we had questions!)
We felt safe and very relaxed here.
One of our favorite places to eat in DC. The food and drink is always delicious worth a visit - you will return for a second!
Our go to restaurant for authentic German Food! Celebrated Oktoberfest with family and friends and we were not disappointed. Outstanding food and plenty of great beer. Great service and plenty of social distancing (even inside!). Absolutely recommend this restaurant!
The best German food & beer in the DMV area. Authentic recipes and always delicious! Great outdoor seating area makes you feel like you're in a biergarten in Deutschland!
Wonderful food, great service. What more can you ask?
Never disappointed with Cafe Berlin! Love this place!
The lentil/squash soup and brussel sprouts appetizer were delicious. It was a beautiful evening to be able to sit outdoors and enjoy high-quality German beer. As it got dark early it would be great to have candles or lights on the tables to be able to see the extensive menus. The waitress was fantastic!
Most authentic German food I've had since leaving Germany.
Our old standby. We are only eating at restaurants with outdoor spaces and Cafe Berlin has a very nice biergarten - but seating is limited and reservations a must. Consistently good German food -including vegetarian options - and rotating German draft beer.
This is the best place in town for a great Oktoberfest dinner!
Excellent German Food! Great Oktoberfest Beer Selection! Friendly Service!
The food is good and a nice afternoon on the patio. But the beer prices are outrageous- at least for some of the drafts. $15 for a half liter of Ayinger? Sure, cheaper than a flight to Munich, but come on!
The special occasion was...Oktoberfest! Und das Abendessen war ausgezeichnet! Mensch, ganz prima! It was a typically mouth-watering and delicious Schweinehaxe, which in case you don’t know is a pig joint that is boiled so that it is tender and slides off of the bone, and then baked so that the skin turns crackling brown and crispy. Wonderful. The side dish of warm German potato salad with bits of bacon was a perfect accompaniment, and the cool and refreshing cucumber and dill salad gave a sweet and crispy contrast to each savory mouthful of tender pork. A yummy lager imported from Munich’s Spaten brewery was just right to sip inbetween bites. That meal, which was fabelhaft, should have been enough. But I couldn’t resist, and so finished with a delightful pear tart (a Birnetorte), which was warm and slightly crunchy on the outside and soft and filled with sweet pear slices on the inside. Served with whipped cream and a scoop of house-made beer ice cream, it was a scrumptious Nachtisch. Pairing it with a glass of light Gewuerztraminer from Rheinhessen made for a pleasant finish. The owners and staff at Cafe Berlin are nice and collegial, and somehow they always remember faces (even when masked)! Cafe Berlin is my go-to place in DC during the one week per month I’m here. This week I managed to go twice!! Hope you do too.
