About Cafe Berlin
Café Berlin has been serving authentic German cuisine on Capitol Hill since 1985. It occupies the ground floor of three townhouses whose front yards serve as Biergarten for outdoor dining. The interior features a small bar and two cozy dining rooms. The restaurant is located within a short walking distance of Union Station and the U.S. Capitol. It draws politicians, congressional staffer, and tourists as well a loyal following of neighborhood residents. The traditional dishes are authentically prepared with lighter touch by chefs with extensive experience in German cuisine. In addition to the regular menu, the restaurant offer seasonally changing menus that feature fresh asparagus in the spring, salads and light fares in the summer, Bavarian dishes during Oktoberfest in the fall, and wild game in the winter. Desserts which are freshly made in-house include apple strudel, black forest cake, and luscious cream tortes. The bar offers a selection of imported German beers and wines.

Cafe Berlin Ratings and Reviews
Great German food - the wild boar and venison lasagna was fabulous. Would like to come again and sample some more dishes. German beers were great. Service attentive if not perfect. As a lone diner I was made most welcome. Not much to look at inside but cozy and the small bar looked inviting.
A must return visit.
I Cannot think of any other place where I would even think of going out for Christmas dinner! IT has been a Christmas tradition in my family for years. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the food - superb! Thank you to the Café Berlin team for making our Christmas warm and delicious!
Recently moved to DC and booked Christmas Dinner for the family. Best deal for a 3 course meal in DC - $49! All of the food served was excellent and three of us even had leftovers! Our server took the time to explain the beers on tap and also let us know that they worked as a team and feel free to ask any server for help, so no issues with the service. We will definitely be back and bring friends and family when they visit and can't wait to sit in the beer garden when it gets warmer!
For ten years we have loved the Café Berlin, and this past weekend reminded us why. The service was warm and well informed, the food was great, and the crowd was fun to watch. Even though every table was occupied, the sound level was low enough that we could converse without having to raise our voices. We loved everything about the evening, and we got off to the Folger Theater in plenty of time.
Excellent and authentic German food served in two quiet, old fashioned dining rooms with white linen tablecloths. This is a superb choice for dinners that involve actual conversation among the participants. The atmosphere is refreshingly peaceful; the beer outstanding; the wine choices reasonable; and the menu rigorously Central European, mostly meat with some fish. Everything we ate was tasty.
I took my parents here for dinner the other night and absolutely loved it. The food was amazing and the restaurant itself was quaint, easily accessible, and on an awesome little strip. Our waiter knew the menu well and suggested great entrees and drinks. I would highly recommend this place to friends and can’t wait to come back.
We've been here many times, and will continue. This was an early Christmas trip to DC.
EVERYTHING was fantastic, as usual. The food was prepared perfectly and courses served at the perfect times. Authentic German food! And the Beer...oh the Beer is SOOOO good.
I love this German place nestled in between row homes on Capitol Hill. The food is excellent with rotating seasonal menus including options for vegetarians and the meat lover among you. It has a cozy and homey feel to it and their holiday fixed prize menus are fabulous. Just leave the cooking to them! :-)
The waiter got the order wrong. The food was a very poor imitation of German food. The place really had nothing to recommend it. We will not go again and will not recommend it to our friends. We would have done better to have stayed home.
The meals were good as was the service. The waiter seemed knowledgable and helpful. The problem was the waiter ordered the wrong meal for me and the meal he ordered happened to be the most expensive one on the menu. He offered to take it back but my wife had her meal so that didn't seem too practical. I took the meal he brought but felt he could have adjusted the price to that of the meal I originally ordered.
We went here after seeing a show at the Kennedy Center. There was a group of us and we were dressed up but didn't feel out of place, although there were plenty of casual attire as well. The food was great, the beer was good, and the waiter was fantastic. The only thing to note is there is only two bathrooms which seemed to always be taken and there was a very obnoxious party a few tables down, but since my party was mostly boys they just decided to give up on being annoyed and be equally loud.
While the food may not be quite as good what you find in Stuttgart or Munich, it is reasonably authentic and tasty. The prices are reasonable as well, just be careful that you pay attention to the beer prices as they vary significantly depending upon the brewery. The place has a comforting ambience.
