Absolutely delicious.. A great little place in DC.. Highly recommend
My wife and I recently enjoyed a pleasant dining experience at Cafe Berlin. It's an intimate restaurant serving German cuisine within easy walking distance of the Folger Shakespeare Theatre. We were both pleased with the Gebackener Brie appetizer (fried brie with sliced pears) and the Cordon Blue main meal served with rice and an orange sauce. I was surprised to find that the "large" off-the-menu double Dunkel beer I ordered turned out to be a full liter of German amber brew! Fortunately, it was as easy to imbibe as it was large. I finished off with the lightest of at least a half dozen delicious looking cheese cake desserts. The whipped cream filling had me wishing for more. We'll be back.
We love this place. Our favorite neighborhood restaurant, with excellent, high-quality German food, using very fresh ingredients. Pleasant servers who are good with kids.
Would love to give them 5 stars but the interior of the restaurant, although clean and well-maintained, is bland to the point that f depressing. I wish they would improve the lighting and paint the walls something other than dead white.
Everything was lovely. Service was particularly good that day.
Best Reuben in town, amazing beer selection, authentic ingredients.
Great food, fun ambiance, the real deal German beer, and did I say great food. If you’ve lived in Germany before, this place will bring back fond memories.
Wait staff had to hustle to keep up.
Very German from the authentic meal to the music. Pleasantly surprised. Staff was great.
The food was delicious and our waiter Daniel was very personable and enjoyable.
I brought several friends who had never had German food. They were instant converts and two days later were still raving about the food and the wonderful location. We couldn't have had a greater experience!
Haven’t been here in a very long time, which is a shame. The food and beer are as good as always. The feeling of the place was a little different than I remembered- a little bit more casual and friendly, which I liked. Some reliable restaurants evolve in good ways and Cafe Berlin is one of them.
Arrived for our 7:15PM reservation 30 minutes early. We were prepared to wait, but the hostess went ahead and seated us anyway. The other member of our party was about 20 minutes late (arrived at 7:35PM), but the waitress was attentive and pleasant even though we were taking up a table without ordering. Food of weinerschnitzel and German mac & cheese was very tasty. Also had long list of German drinks, including beer and wine, at different price points. Reservation recommended, since the restaurant can fill up.
Service was friendly and efficient but Wiener schnitzel was overpriced and not particularly well prepared (greasy, over done, not crispy).
Excellent authentic German food, a little disappointed in the beer selection, didn’t even have all of the few beers on the menu, half of German dining is the beer imo but at least they had a good Dunkel. Still great spot with great food, would recommend
Surprised to find such a nice German restaurant in DC. Very good food and service. Easy to get to, should be great in spring too when you could sit outside.
Authentic German food, prepared fresh from scratch every day. Delicious!!
We had a delightful meal with a friend we habe not seen in years. The service was correct and the meal quite good.
Delicious! Didn't think they could top veal schnitzel but the venison schnitzel was the best I've ever had. And the mustard and beer cheese with pretzels was the best. I wanted to buy the mustard to bring home. I ate it plain when the pretzels were gone. Love this place. I need to go more often!
Always good. I've had two lunches and two dinners over 20 years on the Hill. Schnitzel and Jager Jager are consistently good. Either are better than Texas chicken-fried steak. German beers always served ice cold. Reliable on special occasions like birthdays and date-iversaries. Good desserts and very authentic overall.
Husband loves German food, and I love the husband. And turns out I enjoy German food too. Great way to spend a Valentines Day evening!
We enjoyed Valentines Day with a double date with some very old friends who had also lived in Germany. It was a nice stroll down memory lane. Food continues to be excellent. Service has improved and is very welcoming. When I arrived, the hostess asked if she could take my coat, and she smiled and said, she meant could she have it to keep. I think she liked my coat. On this night, everyone had a great sense of humor. The bar was lively with what appeared to be a bunch of old friends.
First time there. Great beer and champagne based cocktails. Comfort food was good and service wonderful .
Great food, great beer and wonderful service.
We’ll definitely be back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Café Berlin. It was the perfect place to eat a comforting meal on a rainy winter night. The portions were generous and the prices were great. The staff were all very informative, friendly and helpful. I look forward to warmer weather where we can enjoy the expansive outdoor space.
Awesome in all respects. Have been to Cafe Berlin many times, and will no doubt go many more times.
Awesome as always!
Best German food and beer.
Service was slow, especially beer. For a German restaurant, slow beer is problem. Also, waiters & many staff don’t speak German, which would add to the ambiance for an authentic German restaurant.
I ordered the same salad as several times before but I received a much smaller salad than usual (even came on a smaller plate) and instead of the two large goat cheese patties I had come to love, there was but a tiny little goat cheese ball. I was disappointed. And there was a mistake on my bill—they did fix that.
Cafe Berlin is like being in Germany. Honestly from the ambience to the menu, it's authentic and delicious. The seasonal wild game menu is a real treat as well. Great service, nice wine and beer list. So many options. It's cozy and perfect for a date night, family get together or casual friends meal.
Three of us dined together and everyone really enjoyed their food choices and beer. Our server was knowledgeable and just-the-right-amount of attentive. I am gluten-free, so options were difficult, but I knew that going in. I would definitely recommend.
Superbly prepared imaginative food that is authentically German. Fresh, delicious, and the wait staff is excellent.
I enjoyed my visit very much. The mulled wine hit the spot as did the fish sandwich which featured a delicious crusted cod. I recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner!
The service here was really good and the menu offers some unique dishes at decent prices. I wasn't too crazy about my sauerbraten and I thought the portion was quite small. I would like to come back and try something else because there were other items that sounded good. Friendly staff, but the ambiance is lacking.
The staff are friendly and attentive. The food is authentic. A must for German beer lovers!
We went at an offpeak hour on Sunday and fully enjoyed our dining experience. Great food, good desserts, and they accommodated our baby with car seat...not easy to do in small spaces.
A nice restaurant tucked inside. Beer choices nice and simple menu too.
Can always count on a good meal in this restaurant
Excellent food and good service, what's not to like?
Lovely German spot with very authentic food and beer!
Great German food - the wild boar and venison lasagna was fabulous. Would like to come again and sample some more dishes. German beers were great. Service attentive if not perfect. As a lone diner I was made most welcome. Not much to look at inside but cozy and the small bar looked inviting.
A must return visit.
