Beer, pretzels and currywurst...what could go wrong. Nothing. This neighborhood gem is consistently tasty. Occasionally they mix up the menu a bit, so you can keep going back without getting bored. That said, no matter what they add, my husband can't resist the yaeggershnitzel with its yummy creamy mushroom sauce.
Among my favorite places in DC. Always enjoyable, especially when the weather breaks so we can sit outside.
"So-so" is the best we can say about the food. The gooseberry crumble was the highlight of the meal, the Wiener Schnitzel not very good at all.
The wursts were quite good. Wiener schnitzel nothing like in Germany or Austria. Lifeless, as was the sauerkraut. Kneudle was just clump. I would go back for beer and the desert pastries, that’s about it.
We love Cafe Berlin, especially when we can sit outside. The ambiance inside is ok, but sitting outside, surrounded by ivy and twinkle lights sipping German beer... awesome. The food is consistently outstanding.
We had a very enjoyable meal at Cafe Berlin on Tuesday evening. Thank you for excellent service and delicious food.
Seven Americans from the Midwest thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Cafe Berlin. Check out their online menu for the variety of authentic food offered. Two women in the 40-50 age range, plus five 14 year old girls had appetizers, full meals, plus desserts. The food was amazingly delicious! The portions were ample. The wait staff was quite busy, but courteous; we weren’t in a hurry anyway. Our reservation was 6pm on a Monday and we sat in the outdoor dining area. The food was very much like that cooked by my German mother. We all, including the young teens ( ! ), LOVED the food! I hope to be a repeat customer if my travels bring me to DC again.
Great food and service. Sit outside if you can! The pretzels are amazing, as waa the spaetzle!
Food and service were excellent! I will definitely be going back!
We'r love this place! The food is fantastic and so is the service. Cafe Berlin is perfect for a night out.
The menu was VERY interesting, and everything we had was delicious. The goulash was really super, as was the multi-sausage dish. Loved the beer selection. The waiters were most attentive, but a bit busy. We were pre-theater though, so may have been more anxious than we would have been at other times. Definitely will go again!
Needed more help. Food was good but server had too many tables so service was below average. Disappointed because we only to to Cafe Berlin once a year and look forward to it.
A Saturday night with warm temperatures tempted us to the lovely Biergarten, but we opted for the cool of interior seats. We had some drinks while we perused the menu: a pint of Dunkel and a glass of an Austrian pinot noir. Both refreshing. We started with the sauerkraut balls with mustard sauce. A tasty way to start. I had the Sauerbraten and my friend the Jaegerschnitzel. Both were prepared exquisitely and arrived at the table hot from the kitchen. The service was attentive throughout. We ended with a chilled Jaegermeister liquer at the end of a delightful meal. We'll be back again!
The service was just a bit slow - not sure if that's because they were short a staff person or it just takes particularly long to make German food. Otherwise, the food was great and we enjoyed the restaurant.
My husband and I were waiting for the asparagus festival and it's started. We love Café Berlin's wiener schnitzel with white asparagus and potatoes. We had a great meal in their lovely garden.
Fantastic food! Great place for family gathering and celebration
Loved the quaint outdoor seating, complete with twinkle lights. Food very reminisce to what I've had in Berlin. I would recommend the goulash.
Very authentic food with a great location. The dining area is quiet with wonderful outside seating. Prices very reasonable.
The food was amazing and true to Bavaria style.
The waiter never spent any time with us, told us the special, never recommended anything on the menu, maybe he was new. We realize German food isn't the most seasoned tasting food but this food had no flavor, the sauerkraut was good. We had a poppyseed dessert, it tasted old, no flavor at all, almost sent it back. We had look so forward to eating here, very disappointed.
The beer garden outside is one of my favorite outdoor places to relax, have a drink or meal. Of course you need to watch the weather, but you can always dine indoors. Great, authentic German style food.
Great place. Portions are large;:
Service is excellent. Would eat there again!
This was my second visit and my entree was not as good as the first visit which is why I gave 3 stars for the food. However, the appetizers and drinks were fantastic and I really enjoy the environment and location of this restaurant. The staff is very friendly and service is great.
We returned after a visit a couple weeks ago. The wurstsalat was much better this time. Sitting on the pation was very pleasant as usual. The one thing I missed was that there were not more maibocks on the draft beer list. My wife loved the schnitzel sandwich!
As a child of German parents, I grew up with this food and tastes as authentic as it gets.
Great food as always. We brought our friends from out of town. They were missing the flavors of home, and this is a perfect match.
Lovely to sit outside on a nice night. Unfortunately I didn't think the food was as good as the last time I was there and the menu hadn't changed at all. They need to lighten up a bit for spring. Service was good in general, but we had quite a long wait for our check.
Easter dinner. Very good. A little slow, but understandable on Easter Sunday.— Fred Woodworth
Great Authentic German Food with a solid Bier selection. Highly recommend if you know your German.
We hadn't been in a few years and really enjoyed our Easter brunch!
Such great food and atmosphere!
Having lived in Germany, I found Cafe Berlin to be an authentic German (food & restaurant) experience. Looking forward to my next visit!
Excellent staff, good food. Outside very appealing
Great little find. Lovely food
We had two orders of the wurstsalat with cheese. It wasn't as good as we've had in the past, mainly because it seemed to be under-dressed. We asked for more dressing and the waitress obliged, although it was a creamy dressing and not the traditional oil and vinegar. But we enjoyed the lunch on the patio in any case and the maibock tasted delicious.
The food is great. It is a pleasant place to enjoy dinner and some conversation.
Patio service was poor and food was extremely over salted.
The food was good, however the wait was unacceptable. We waited for over an hour for our entrees to arrive and watched as several other tables who arrived after us were served. The server was working hard, but couldn’t seem to keep up. He apologized repeatedly for the delays and comp’d our beer and desert. Overall it was a mixed experience.
